Title: 1080 monitor. Possible zapping fix.
Post by: sparkeyjames on April 16, 2011, 03:02:51 PM
I have an old 1080 monitor that I've had since shortly
after I purchased my A1000 back in early '86. Just after
I moved in 1993 the monitor started making zapping sounds
and the picture would jump. This of course makes the monitor
unusable. Well yesterday I decided to fix the problem and if
not then throw it out. So I opened it up used my cap discharge
tool to make sure all caps were indeed discharged even though
the monitor had not been powered up in over 12 years. I then cleaned
it with compressed air and a small brush. Ran a ground wire from
a shield near the flyback transformer that someone on the net
had said was the source of the problem. When that did not fix it
I got a little perturbed and decided to just spray the entire area
and the flyback transformer with DEOXIT. Problem solved.
Monitor has now been powered up for 5 hours with no zapping
sounds and no jumping picture. Clean clear stable picture.
