Hi,
Just managed to purchase one of these units and was wondering what is the best way to upgrade it to a 060? Is it easy?
Also if I decide to stick to 68040 do I need to reinstall os3.9 to make use of the processor?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Its not easy unless you know what you are doing, also not all Apollo 040 cards can be upgraded to 060, you will need to find out what Mach chip is on the card.
As for you second question, no you do not need to re-install anything, but you will need to install the 060 library wich you can find online/aminet etc.

Has to have a MACH131 CPLD to stand a chance of being upgraded.
Then it needs the CPU desoldering and the replacement (or a socket) adding.
Needs a new xtal oscillator, EPROM, some jumpers changing and a voltage regulator board.

Does Amigakit or any other Amiga organisation do this service?

Not that I know of.
Cosmos & Stachu100 will do it. Dunno how much for ... roughly the same price as the Apollo 1240 I guess...

PG has done it - but he was last time active 2009 :-(

if you cant do it yourself... you should just have gone after that blizzard1260 after all... in the end this will just cost you as much as that blizzard1260, and even worse that apollo1240 could be killed under the operation... going cheap isnt allways a good solution..
