Just got word from Bill "Pyromania" Panagouleas that the Amizilla Booty has again got another huge boost from this former Netscape Executive. What a guy!
Pyromania wrote:
Genesi wanted to match the booty several months ago but never did. Now I am afraid they will not be able to afford it. The former Netscape Executive changed his mind about donating $2000, now instead he wanted to match the original booty amount before his bid ($4205.61). Now because of his revised donation the booty is over $8400. His only request is that he wants to see the amount get over $10,000 so is requesting others donate what they can. He has done more than his share that is for sure. $10,000 is a good idea and a nice milestone to aim for but AmiZilla will need your help to get there. Could someone submit this news to www.slashdot.org please. It is very newsworthy.
Could some regular of /. please submit the news. i agree it is indeed very news worthy for there.
A big thnx to this unnamed former Netscape Executive, $10k now seems well within reach.

Not at all sure where Bill P. might have gotten the idea that Genesi "might not be able to afford it". Other than that discrepancy, any donations for this project is a good thing.

This is a fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can someone post it on Slashdot? I don't know how.
Thanks to the donator!!!!!! I already dream to have Firebird on my AmigaOS4 installation :-D

Praise be to this guy indeed! The Amiga was very important to this chap, and I have to say that I'd probably do the same if I was in his position (i.e. I had a ton of money to chuck about!).
:-D

yeah well i aint stinking rich and i contributed aswell, and more will come as soon as i see some progression, now thats for sure anyway.
anyway this guy is what i would call an fine example of a true AMIGA user , lets hope others will follow aswell..

Actually, our offer is still good.
Bill understands the objective from our side and if he can find a solution in that direction we continue to be ready.
Sincerely,
R&B :-)
-
Yeah, we've tried to make clear that we'd like to see objectives that will benefit forward motion BESIDES adding to the pot. The dialog hasn't really been a dialog lately. But the offer still stands.

This is cool news. But, can we please leave Slashdot alone? It's full of "if it's not Linux it shouldn't exist" people and they only laugh at us Amiga users for using a horribly dead platform, so what is the point of telling them about this?? They really and truely do not care.

There... I gave 'em ten dollars (I'm not exactly rich)... the project (hopefully) seems to be picking up speed now and while my Amiga isn't on the internet, I like the idea of this project, cause I like my miggy.

Pity that TeamAROS (http://www.thenostromo.com/teamaros/) never got the $1000 from Genesi that was promised back in April.

Wow! this is really amazing. I never ever ever thought that this project would go this far moneywize. Rigt now I really feel like adding a little something to that pot to make go over that magic level. To bad I am poor as a ... as.. as.. something.. but when I get some cash, i will most definitely donate some greens!

Well, it made Slashdot...
Former Netscape Executive gives $4000 to AmiZilla (http://slashdot.org/articles/03/12/20/1556256.shtml?tid=126&tid=138&tid=154&tid=187&tid=95)

Dammy,
If that's the same $1000 I am thinking, there were also two more Pegasos boards included, all to be contributed to AROS at the time when we had seen progress of porting that meant that it was practical to involve two more AROS people.
So far I haven't been apprised that things have progressed that far.

No, the two more pegs is with AROS (http://www.aros.org/) not TeamAROS (http://www.thenostromo.com/teamaros/). TeamAROS has nothing to do with coding/porting AROS to any platform, other then cheerfully accepting bounty request. TeamAROS had nothing to do with the initial peg mobo for porting that Genesi donated. Had TeamAROS been envolved, the $1K would have solely been targeting the actual porting of AROS to the Peg. As you can see by our bounty lists, there is zero for the AROS port to the Peg. It's not TeamAROS' deal.

Dammy,
Perhaps there was some miscommunication then. Because the only $1000 I ever heard about was the $1000 I proposed to BBRV that we offer to AROS (along with three boards) for porting AROS to Peg, and I got back a thumbs-up. This was at almost exactly the same time when you came up mentioning Team AROS, so perhaps some wires are crossed. I just don't know.

Actually, our offer is still good.
Just to be clear, could you please restate what was your offer about?
Thanks a lot.

Apparently there is/was. The only thing I have in my (from BBRV) emails (dated Sun, 27 Apr 2003 09:23:18 +0200) was a $1K towards the system that I had described (TeamAROS) to BBRV and there was nothing in there that had anything to do with porting. I spent that weekend hacking a Open Source web source into TeamAROS' page so things would roll ASAP as per suggestion. Had a port of AROS to Peg been told to me, up front in that email, things would have been different and I would not have even considered spashing PHX's name on TeamAROS' page if I spent the time puttingTeamAROS together at all. Then there are those posts on ANN when BBRV announced that it was them funding the donation to TeamAROS and once again, there was no mention of any strings attached.
If you will note, I have not put a single bounty that was not backed up by money. Nor would I have done so with a Peg port without the $1K sitting in the paypal account first.

there is always strings attached it seems..
lets see if things change...
