Title: What is the purpose of amiga.org?
Post by: runequester on April 06, 2011, 04:09:41 AM
Not really interested in piss ant sniping and character assassination here.

As far as the moderators and administrators are concerned, what is the purpose of this site?

As far as the users, what do you feel the purpose should be?

Kesa gets to say "pancakes".

The name says it all.  Amiga as in CBM Amiga.  Org as in organization.

All others including C64 and Linux-based computers go in the "other OS" forum.

Actually I think he's referring to either a "Mission Statement" or "Statement of Intent", which this site does have.

All Amiga and Amiga related hardware, OS and other software (with a fair mix of casual BS).

That'd probably the best way of putting it. Thanks.

Hit the nail right on the head there, IMO of course. Quite frankly, the way I see it, I've put my money where my mouth is and become a subscriber so I should be able to say whatever the hell I want

"... serving the Amiga community"

So who are these people whom "we" are serving? Some of them use OSs that others hate. Some of them want to buy hardware others hate. Some of them just wan´t to have a laugh with or at the expense of others. Some just want to sell their stuff, or get repair tipps.

That´s what I observed. I initially thought it was to brag about your cool Amiga and to show off your skills. But this doesn´t seem to be on anyones agenda.

Interestingly enough, if you defend one of the unique features of the classic AmigaOS, there is always somebody to shout you down, claiming that it is not "modern" enough. No matter if it´s Workbench, memory protection, GadTools, Commodities, OCS, shell commands or the icons and window decorations. Somebody always seems to hate something about what we should have as a common ground.

Just adding this to your statement about serving the community, in case anyone wants to review the older mission statements. Oddly, they arose in times of turmoil.

@runequester

I thought it was a place to give unlimited free advertising to his holy majestic royal highness, sir Steve Jobs and also Barry Altman.  To continually advertise non-Amiga-related products.  Even Anti-Amiga products.  Because as you know, being poor disadvantaged fellows, neither Steve Jobs nor Barry can afford to pay for their advertising.  So all wealthy rich Amiga sites are required to give them advertising for free.

Oh come on, Chaos. We all know Jobs is a nob (well most of us do).
And Barry Altman is hardly Steve Jobs.

Finally, posts are hardly advertisements. No real gain in sales is coming from these messages.
