Title: Time for a new PC
Post by: gertsy on April 05, 2011, 01:59:11 PM
looking to get a new PC.  Here is my list at the moment:
(Not the latest and greatest but 2-3 releases from that in most areas.)

Motherboard : Gigabyte X58A UD3R (REV 2) USB3 & Sata3(6GBps) with Raid.
CPU : Intel i7 950
RAM : 6GB Triple Kit. Corsair XMS or Kingston Hyper X (3 x 2GB 12800 1600 CL8 or CL9)
HD1: 2 x WD VelociRaptor 150GB
HD2: 2 x 1TB Sata2 32GB cache (Seagate Barra)
Display : Gigabyte GTX 570 (1.2 GB)
Case: Sonata 3 (500w PSU)
DVD : Blue Ray Burner
Monitor : 24" BenQ GL2440HM LED lit LCD
Logitec F310 Gamepad
OEM Windows 7 Pro. Other OS(s) Free.

I will stripe the Raptors for Boot/OS and the Barras for Data.

I was hanging to see what an X1000 might be, but this will probably be cheaper at around $2K Au.  Certainly way more powerful.

So what do you think?

PS: it wont fit in a C64 case, without a mallet at least.

Personally, for me the main monitor should be at least 27 inches, the side monitors are ok at 24 inches though.

Just scrawl a chicken head on the case with a biro and it will be as official as anything Baz & Leo have come up with so far.

LOL don't need to do that, I can get official stickers from Commodore Scotland.

@persia, I considered the 27" but its just so big on the desk and the resolution is the same as the 24" LED lit unless you go to more expensive brands.  $500+.  Do you use the side monitors for FPS gaming ?
