Title: PCMCIA wireless card

Guys
 
anyone have one of these card which amigakit sells?

AFAIK, lots of people are using wireless adaptors with prism.device, so perhaps his issues aren't representative.

Personally, I'm using wired NICs, which turned out to be no hassle at all to get working.

I bet that his problem is that he needs PCMCIA fix

Setting up wireless network is quite easy, IF yur frend keep his mind that, PCMCIA port of amiga 1200 needs a fix and Genesis TCP/IP doesn't support DHCP properly.

If you are going the network route (no pun intended), you don't really need to do anything to get around the lack of DHCP support. My classics run AmiTCP under 3.x. When setting up the stack, I just picked the static IP address on the LAN that I wanted them to have and as soon as the connection was up, went into the router and reserved those addresses for the MAC addresses of their network cards. As far as the machines are concerned they now have static IP addresses as the DHCP server will always re-issue the same one when the lease expires.

True, but you have made this profesional way :) IF asker isn't experienced he could als just pick one ip address wich is not in DHCP pool, no configuration needed to router.

He just need to figure out what is DHCP pool that his router use. Of course is possible that he uses private addresses in his lan, if so he needs to do that dhcp fix or configure his router to use NAT

I don't know about "professional", I did it that way because I couldn't be bothered to think of a better way to do it :D

I ended up reserving IP addresses for all my regularly connected devices. The remainder of the pool is left for when visitors bring their wireless devices round.

That's exactly how I have mine set up. Just makes things so much easier when everything's always in the same place - especially since Amigas not running Samba won't broadcast a hostname so connecting to them from other machines usually involves the IP address...

If he pick up IP wich is outside of DHCP pool, result is same. DHCP pool is usually something like 192.168.0.100-199 so IP address below 100 is useable and address over 199 is useable.

So IP address doesn't need to came from address pool, outside of it is allso ok

Btw it probably isnt a fault in Amiga hardware but the OS 3 being buggy.

I got one and it works great, though it took a while to configure. I havent done these things by hand in ages :)

Which shows how to set up Miami (easy) and install the keyfiles (provided on the site).

You need some more information from the guy unable to connect to the internet wirelessly.

I'm thinking that maybe he's trying to connect to a router that's possibly set up for WPA2.  Without a little debugging, it's virtually impossible to tell what exactly is the problem.
