Hi,
Just want you all to know I just loaded up Doom on Cloanto's Amiga Forever.
I am running it at 1280 by 1020 at about 60 fps, with sound. Not bad for an emulator.
Plays Megaball great, and Soliton plays real nice while Aminet mods play in the background. Still trying to set up my WorkBench to make it look and feel like I want it.
Yeah, sort of puts the old A4000 to shame, but then you have to remember Amiga Forever is being run by the latest and greatest hardware for gaming.
CUSA = bah humbug, they are trying to sell a mini board. Let them get down to brass tacks, my setup only cost around $700.
OK
$730 with monitor, a gateway vx900t, 20 inch. Have a 24 inch LCD on my Intel Quad Core but have to go to the 6 core in my computer room upstairs because the wife wants to sleep.

Cool.

I think you mean Doom on WinUAE ;) Cloanto didn't write any part of that code there. Amiga Forever is just WinUAE + free crap @ arse raping 30 euros :roflmao:
-
It'll actually be faster on a dual core phenom :)
Winuae is more or less single threaded and 6 core phenoms have a smaller cache per core, which'll hurt emulation.
My 3 year old core2duo amithlon box will blitz that system for "amiga" speed :P
That aside though I still prefer my a1200 most of the time. We all know that x86 hardware can deal with doom nicely, even when using an emulated cpu. Ive never really understood why people seem to think the fact that emulation is faster means much. If you enjoy it though good luck to you.

Have you looked at what's in the Amiga Forever package lately? There's a whole stack of stuff, most of which is *not* free. Pressing CDs and DVDs isn't free either. Oh, and it's not 30€ either, it starts at 10€.
If you're going to complain about something, it's generally useful to have at least some knowledge about what you're complaining.
-
On Snow Leopard UAE seems to use only one core or my eight...

Free stuff adds nothing to emulator, they didn't create Kickstart or Workbench and they didn't write the games.
30 euros is what WinUAE + KS 1.3 and 3.0 is. The only reason those ROMs aren't PD is down to Amiga Inc.
Now have you tried the 8 euro Retrogenius DVD which runs instantly from the disc and comes with excellent tutorials.....no? Then I guess you shouldn't be promoting scum like Amiga/C64 Forever = overpriced bullshit using FREE emulators to rip-off thickos :roflmao:
IF Cloanto subsidized some actual Amiga hardware then I will reconsider.

Yeah because we are taking sales away from ....... oh wait we're not even sure Kickstart can be legally licensed by Amiga Inc.....perhaps we are taking profits from sale of WinVICE/WinUAE.....no wait they're free too......maybe stopping Gremlin/Ocean/Team17/US Gold product being sold.....no wait they were all released into public domain.
Grow up son....one loser who may not even own Kickstart allowed another loser to encrypt it. Fact.
10 euros Amiga Forever is a crippled version of FREE WinUAE :roflmao:
I can't wait for the Kickstart replacement....then Cloanto are screwed(and amen to that).

I'm pretty sure that's all WinUAE uses too, Persia.

They have developed some really nice tools themselves, like a game launcher and AmigaExplorer, and the last one I've bought and I am REALLY happy with it as it totally put new life in my old A500.

@Digiman
A reasonable arguement about Winuae being free if it's what a person was actually paying for with with AmigaForever, which youve been told more than a few times isnt the case, yet you persist with the same invalid arguements.
You also get a legal source of kickstart rom images, plus a legal copy of amiga OS(es), a customised version of knoppix, a customised front end, assorted (entertaining) videos, amiga explorer, and other bits and pieces. Seems quite reasonable for the price to me.
I really dont understand the "logic" in hating someone for trying to make a few dollars back on an invesment, especially someone who has also given away some nice software theyve written for free. Additionally theyve also contributed money to AROS kickstart replacement bounty.
Weird thing is though, youve been told this before, yet you still continue to make negative arguements about things you know the truth about.
Amiga Forever isnt for you, fine, but your invalid "arguements" are getting tiring.

Why are you always promoting the Retrogenius DVD full of pirated, unlicensed software and criticizing Cloanto every chance you get? Do you work for Retrogenius or something? 8 Euro for a DVD full of software downloaded off the Internet is more of an arse raping than $9.95 for Amiga Forever.

Wow, I totally agree.
As someone who used WinUAE for years and THEN bought AmigaForever I think I can see the difference.
It's mostly about convenience. I can instantly try out an Amiga1000 ! (which I haven't seen in a dogs age)
I can use my A3.9 OS programs. When i had my WinUAE I had to spend a long time setting it up. With AF, it's almost instant.
I can try out AmiKit (although mine got borked for some unknown reason), and AmigaOS. Which is great because these are ready made setups.
PLus, the Premium Edition has historic videos and images. I am one of these people that believes in keeping History alive.
Plus, the updates are automatic - assuming your system is online, of course.
contrary to what some may think my money was well spent and I like my AF.

Hi,
I totally agree with you, I like winuae and have bought every edition that they have brought out since 2005 basically for their support and to keep them going. I believe that good programming effort deserves to be supported. I am not cheap, and basically do not expect anything for nothing. I would be sending money for registration for IDEfix97 if the place where I was going to send the money was still open.
Yeah, your observation that uae is free, I know this from using Ubuntu Linux and use it on there, but I miss the major attractions of Amiga Forever.
The best thing I like about using AF is that I am saving my Amiga silicon, I don't have to worry about burning something up in my classics. So all of you can act Karlos like and say why are you spending money on something that is free?
(What does it take to yank this guys chain)
