Title: Free 3D Software capable of running on Amiga 500?
Post by: Super TWiT on March 29, 2011, 10:43:54 PM
Hey all, I have an amiga 500 which has 1 mb of ram, and I want to try (for fun, not really for anything in a production environment) doing some 3D work on it.  Is there any free software (ie something on bttr or aminet) that will allow me to do 3D work.  I've got Deluxe Paint III, but that really isn't really 3D.  I suppose if I HAD to pay for it I would, but I need it to be inexpensive, as I am on a beer budget:)  I saw Byte-by-Byte sculpt3d and turbosilver on ebay before, and I'm kicking myself for not getting em.  I've also heard that there may be an old version of blender which works with the amiga.  Is that true?

Hi:

Imagine v 3.0 came free as a coverdisk on an old CU amiga magazine.
I am sure somebody kind here on amiga.org might have a copy and
send it to you for free.
Good Luck !!!

Imagine 2 and 3 will run (3 with some config alterations). I think they were both given away with Amiga Format.

V3 is here on the Amiga format coverdisk : http://amr.abime.net/coverdisk_index_4

Also, check that site for tutorials, there will be one in the issue you download that disk from.

Tutorials and files at this site: http://www.imagine3d.org

Up to V4 can be downloaded from the owners site:  http://www.imaginefa.com/

I started out on imagine2 on my A500, it's a great program....but be prepared to wait...and wait some more!  (well, unless you download imagine for PC, and do final rendering on that!, but that would be cheating right?)

Also keep a look out for Turbosilver's succesor "Imagine 3D". V6.0 being the last version. Imagine would run on a slightly expanded A500.... verrrry slowly. If you're going to do 3D on a classic machine, you should think about getting a cpu/ram exspansion. My first attempts at 3D back in the early 90's was on a 500 with an 030/25mhz and 4meg of ram and I think a  demo of Imagine v2.0 (or was it turbosilver?) Drawing scenes was ok, but click "render" and  come back in a  couple of hours. A stock 7.14mhz 500 is painful to imagine. pun intended.

You should look at Real3D version 1.4 NOT any newer versions. Was it released for free some time ago?

One nice 3D toy for A500 is scenery animator
