My Last Post...
I thought for a while about what I should write for my last post ever. I have been a part
of this site for a long time, and it has been a big part of my hobby with computers. I remember
when I first read about Amigas in Popular Science magazine back in the 80's. I had 8-bit
computers that I goofed around with back then, and what I read about the Amiga made me
want one. I finally got an Amiga 1000 a couple years later, and it was great. Later I had another
1000 then a 1200 and a 3000. Great machines, great OS. I did a lot of gaming, a little
programming, and some 3d stuff.
It was a lot of fun. And thats what Amiga.org was when I first joined. It hasn't been that way for
a while now. Pointless bickering, obsessions about who is doing what with the Amiga, what
country you come from etc. etc. etc.
The personal attacks have become unbearable, and they aren't even pointed directly at me. I
can't check out any threads without reading the mindless back and forth that is Amiga.org
nowadays, even when a thread starts out ok it quickly goes downhill fast. Stuff crosses threads
too.
A simple, efficient, cool, computer with cool games, and apps, and friends who can talk about
stuff without putting anyone down. Thats not what this site is about anymore. I hope it can be
again someday.
You can put me down for being an American and not having a sense of humor or whatever you
want, thats fine.
I wish you luck, and try to have fun...

If you stick around a little longer you will see improvements.
-
Wow... after such a long time here and you're just going to leave, guess you've made up your mind as you say... :(
Hope you change it and come back cos you made some very useful posts in the short time I've seen them, maybe we didn't agree on all topics but you sure know your stuff... :)
Best of luck anyway and hopefully you'll change your mind... :)
Cheers
Frank
-
That sux.
But I know what you mean.
-
Damn it. I was thinking of posting on the thread that was just deleted just to ask if we could get along nicely without mods online. Transition beat me to it :(
Tim. Hope you stick around. I agree with you completely and hope it improves soon. It's getting to be too much :)
-
Agree some what with Kthunder, but I tend to be a lurker more than a poster. Although of late have posted more than usual.
Also find posts/entire threads missing, not sure I agree with deleting an entire message thread, closing would suffice?
Some actions of late and topics going off topic is frustrating.
Another annoyance is posts being in the wrong forum, but anyway. It's not really the same here, fingers crossed some positive changes come in to play.
-
Sad news. I hope Transition is correct or this will become a trend.'

Tim, don't let the minority here ruin the experience for you! :(
Things and people have gotten out of hand lately, to be sure. But instead of just saying "goodbye", why not just take a reprieve for a bit? Hate to see you or any other real Amigans go.
Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. I'd could easily chime in with all of the ignorance (politics, petty fighting, general silliness) going on lately, but think I'm finally getting to a point where I can just turn the other cheek so to speak. Lots of different personalities here. Most all do contribute in some way or another though, but damn - just gotta filter 'em out buddy!
-
Really it has nothing to do with nationality, or even the Amiga.
From AOPA pilot forums to antique telephone collector forums- it's the same thing.
Hell, ever read the "discussion" tab in wikipedia where dissent rages over which direction the sun rises? (citation needed)
Sure, it's silly- unfortunately it is part of the landscape unless you become a recluse.
So just don't take it so seriously.
-
@KThunder
I don't know you, but you have been around here for a long time. Sorry to see you go - perhaps just tune out for a while? I don't think the tension is just here. I feel it at work, in public, on forums, the entire world has been under an incredible amount of stress for the last few years and it affects everyone in different ways. Hopefully things will ease up for all of us soon.
-
Yea all these deleted posts/threads are really starting to piss me off I must say.
-
Kthunder
I'm sorry to hear this as I am part of the reason for the recent insanity. I do love however that the real cause of the degredation of aorg acts like he is innocent and cares with smilies and all how lame. You see my join time? 2002? You see this joker and some of his pals? 09 ? 10?
@ Transition
I sincerely hope there is a MAJOR change and you stomp on OT thread posts, Thread Hijacks and general clowning useless posts..
The only time i'll go out of line is when one of these guys threatens me physically which has happened twice now, i cannot lay down for that. I'm sorry.

At this point in time, it doesn't matter who is right, who is wrong, who started it, who wrote threats and who did not.
You are starting to hurt your own reputation by continuing to write anything about the recent events, as it just prolongs the ending of the conflict.
I know from my own experience, as I have been sucked into shouting matches with others on forums in the past, this is a NO WIN situation for any of you and everybody else is paying the price, having to put up with all of it.
Time to stop and turn the computer off for a few hours.
Edit: @KThunder, Sorry to see anyone leave, even those I don't know or agree with, and I dislike the whole idea of announcing a departure. It seems very child like, just as much as the rest of the nonsense happening here. I private note to the moderators or the webmaster is much more appropriate and probably just as effective. Most people who leave, eventually come back, so I hope that you too will return, or at least lurk in the background.

I really sincerely hope that this blow up fight here will lead to major mod changes on this site and ppl like franko are not allowed to run rampart and ruin it..
And you are completely right about my rep, by engaging in this the way I did its a shame. However, I cannot nor will not back down to physical threats it clearly really sets me off...

And...makes...you...repetitive.
For God sake, he's in Scotland! I seriously doubt he's coming to the US to abuse you in person.
And if he really was, we could get Homeland Security to pick him up at the airport and ship him off to Guantanamo.

I can't believe any one in a forum would make a physical threat. Thats just weird. Nobody will get along all the time but violence is just not what the world needs now. People like amigians used to stick togather and figure out eachother problems. I know I havn't been on here long but in that time I have been helped by a TON of the members here. Almost always made me feel welcome. I tend to stay nutral and avoid arguemnts but that only makes seince since this is a forum, not a blog.
I hope that people making threats realize its illeagle and so is retaliation either direction. So don't let people have that kind of control over you and turn off the hate.

Your (and others) constant insult flinging is far worse than anything Franko or most anyone else could have ever dreamed up. Little stupid digs at people, poor attempts at "taking the high road" while completely smack talking "people". Stop it, everyone - just stop making personal attacks. People openly gunning for Franko now, like a grade 3 schoolyard fight, wanting to get him banned, and making A.org a steaming pile of crap in the process. Enough, everyone. KThunder - take a break for a bit. I might only be a lurker, but I have always enjoyed your posts and would miss them if you left. This garbage is making an already small community even smaller. Cheers, Duce
-
Sorry to c u go bro. Hope things treat you well and you continue to bang away with your Amiga. Sorry to see someone who has been on here as long as i have leave. Hopefully you come back. Cheers.
-
I think I'll follow KThunder's example and bail out too.
...so long everyone.

Same here ...bye.
-
this is why i do very little posting, and this website is the worse of all amiga site.
-
@KThunde: I wish you good luck to you and "bon vent".
-
Although I haven't been here too long and I don't post to often, current events get me down too.
Its sad to see 'Amiga' related posts (some of which I have entered) and they get maybe just a couple of replys from people trying to help answer technical, software, etc. questions and sometimes no helpful replies at all.... Contrast this with the 'Fighting' posts with posts going to 3 digits. Its really sad..
-
Don't judge anyone by the time he has spent on this forum. I joined as recent as 2006 but familiarized with Amiga already late 80s.
Ann.lu needs to be reopened so this place cleans up a bit ;-)
-
Guys i don't think this is reason enough to walk out on Amiga.org. Look, every friendship/relationship and community has its ups and downs. I just think we are going through a bad patch right know so that's all the reason to stay and continue to be supportive so we can get through this rough patch :)
-
Duce
Yeah buddy i'm the problem. the ONLY person I EVER got into it with on aorg is Franko. I'm glad you are entertained by his stupid posts and stupidity. I hope one day you get into with him so he can threaten you and send you nasty PMs... yeah i'm the problem.
-
To be frank since the amount of people reported to be causing a problem can be counted on one hand it really is not a reason to leave a forum with 1000's of members. We will work harder to keep the peace.
-
Transition
What you may not fathom is that there is ONE person that is on nearly EVERY thread on aorg.. your pal Franko. So seems to me you really have one definitive problem. That being said, so many people seem to love him that soon you will have aorg with a complete post infestation by this person complete with random meaningless emoticons, lame childish witt, incorrect information, and spamming.. since he did declare he was quadrupling his post count. Sounds like a real fun time for amiga.org users (NOT) If this guy increases his post count many more people will leave the site.
-
This thread makes CommodoreUSA threads look fun.
:(
-
@KThunder
Please don't leave.
-
Transition
Interesting you should say that as IMHO thats when the aorg ship started to go down.... many ppl lost interest after all that crap (and guess who was one of the MAIN ringleaders in all the cusa attacks and thread spamming/hijacking??) Your pal Franko
-
I'm sorry to see anyone leave over all of this. It is a great shame. We are all here for our love of the Amiga, and we need to stop personal attacks. I am sorry for my recent digs. I will say a certain person should stop digging and popping @Franko as you are making it worse
-
bye
I think this thread even some up some of the problems when people debate about a person leaving, when the above is all you need to post, but I suppose by posting this I'm guilty of the same thing, at the end of day I think we have to keep thing in prospective, its only a web forum most of the debates/thread last for a week and then we move on to the next debate or topic I think its partly the fun, if you not interested then skip the thread or the post that annoy you, it hard to do I admit but the best way to fight trolls or off topic post is not respond to them and leave them get on with it. If your really annoyed and constantly getting annoyed and no longer enjoy your time here then I suppose it is time to leave or cut back on the time your here and I can comply understand that.
-
Personally I think the problems started when we lost the coffee house threads on the front page, it was nice when they appeared in their own list at the bottom.
If people had issues they got talked out in the CH... I never go near the CH now, I don't have time to dig around forums :)
just my tuppence.
-
There is absolutely no need for personal attacks.
On peaceful forums there are some veteran members who keep short tempered posters in line, they do it by remaining calm and giving a firm warning when appropriate.
I think because Amiga is as much as a religion as a hobby people don't seem to lighten up very often.
It is a hobby. A handful of the faithful are not going to change the computing world.
Let's just talk all things Amiga.
btw. A computer is very flexible piece of technology, let's be a little flexible too.
-
This thread makes CommodoreUSA threads look fun.
:(
Which the majority of those threads were started by those who hate C=USA, yet C=USA got the blame for those threads. It is pretty sad when I can't even post some tech items to AO out of fear of rabid nutters coming out of the wood work, which either I or C=USA would get the blame for their offensive postings.
AFAIK, AO was purchased as a business from Wayne. Owner(s) need to step back and take a look if AO is in growing or in decline. If it is in decline, things need to be changed just like if it was a brick and mortar business. People vote on how well a business is doing with their wallet and feet.

@KThunder + the others bailing. Pity to see you go. I take your point it's hard to follow the flow of a thread when its full of personal attacks. Amiga Org is no place for personal attacks. A lot of people take technology stuff personally and all need to appreciate that with a bit of sensitivity.
But a world without fun is just that. I don't see an issue with humour within posts it's what has always made AORG.
Life is to short to "argue fuss and fight".
As Bloodline says: Take it into the Coffee House. Or the Okay Tea Rooms.
PS: In my mind anyone sending abusive or bullying PMs should be banned on the spot.
PPS: Where's Karlos....He'd sort it out....Help us Karlos, you're our only hope....

Any news that is Amiga related is welcome here. Amiga.org has grown since 2009. If I were you I would avoid posting info on a site that starts with an M. We would never let Amiga.org get to the sorry state and spam infested loon town that the M site has become. Also on Amiga.org its easy to avoid members posts you don't like. Add to ignore list, rinse lather repeat. Remember less than five have been reported as starting problems.

"M" site?
The only site I post at that begins with an M is MorphZone and their posters never get as childish as we've gotten here lately.
I've enjoyed some off the off-topic posts, but if we can't play well together, maybe we should follow MorphZone's lead and stick to topics related to hardware and software.
I'd miss the occasional bit of silly banter, but maybe we ought to limit off topic posts.
-
Personally I've never had an issue with Franko.
He does seem to post alot but who cares if it wanders a little off topic at least it is entertainment which is all a 'retro computer' should be anyways, IMHO. That and everyone has differing opinions anyways, right?
I think that it's better to have off topic posts than to come here and just see nothing new posted and just hear the crickets crirping.

You don't go without an ode.
Not with that amount of posts, it is a post tax ;)
-
I'll just say the 'ignore' functionality has become the best of A.org's technical features.

-
Funny, I've been visiting A.Org (and that's the main Amiga site I visit) so few times in the last year that I didn't even notice all of what is being referred, I normally just ignored the Commodore US or whatever threads and took a peek at the more technical stuff...
Those posts will go away anyway, I'm getting too old to care abou that...:)

Also remember that most people here would rather reduce or eliminate their own posting to the forums, not visit as often, or just plain leave, than to report other users to the moderators or administration here. It is just not in their nature to report other members, or complain to the people responsible for keeping this site going.
I hope that the current owner(s) of A.org will do what ever it takes to return this site to what it once was, the best Amiga news and forum site on the planet. I have been here a very long time. Several years before the join date that is shown for my profile, due to my account being accidentally deleted during a site upgrade years ago and I lurked here before becoming a member, so I have seen the changes over the years and must say that the direction A.org is going at the moment is not the direction that will allow it to survive indefinitely. It is more like the road to some hot unpleasant place.
Please do something to improve the experience here before we lose too many more members.

What the heck happened here. (Havent kept up to date here)
Im a lucker normally but happened to catch this thread on my android phone on the bus home last night..
Can't believe for such an amazing platform like the Amiga and the long lasting community spirit things seem to be degrading..
Hate to see anyone leave. ;(

That's a coincidence. I was thinking yesterday maybe we need different and/or more moderators. I thought about bloodline cause he's made 10000+ postings but he hasn't indicated he would like to so far. Your post i quoted made a lot of sense and you said you have been here for a long time so maybe you could be a new mod? :)
@ Karlos. I don't think you are really leaving. If you are considering leaving over recent stuff happening it might just be a sign that you have been a mod too long. So maybe you should give you role to someone else so you only have to worry about talking about Amigas and not worrying about fixing the crap that has been on here lately :)
P.S. if you leave can i have you medal? ;)
-
OMG t3h intarwebs will collapse upon itself!
Oh noes
Seriously WTF is going on with this place lately, oodles of shit threads, butt loads of whinging and complaining about SFA, grow up peoples, this is supposed to be fun
-
After looking at Karlos' comment I began to think about some of the posters I haven't seen here recently that used to give good useful answers.
Anyone wonder about people that drop out without notice?
We could be losing some of the better forum members and not even be aware of it till its too late.
BTW - Has anyone seen a post by André Siegel recently?
I know Piru and Karlos are still here, but I don't remember hearing from André recently.
-
Iggy
Andre S hasnt been posting on mz either. Probably has a real job and really busy...
@ amigadave
You are right on with the report button. I should have doen that long ago with franko and that other guy retro instead of engaging them on forums..
-
Hi,
@Kthunder,
Hey since you are leaving, does this mean you won't be using your Amiga anymore?
What type is it?
Would you be willing to give it away?
If not, then how much are you selling it for?
Always hapXX sad to see a member leave, Will you be using your Amiga anymore?
@Karlos,
about time I ran you off, you always did spoil my fun.

I'm pretty sure all the MOS developers have full time jobs, Mag.
They ain't paying the bills selling MorphOS licenses.
But now that you mention it, I haven't seen any posts from André on MorphZone either.
And if Franko violates the terms this forum goes by, then you have every right to use the report button.

Good Grief! I didn't get a chance to check in here for a few days and next thing I know a mass exodus is happening!
Tim! Please stick around dude! ...or at least check in from time to time. Don't leave me here to fend for our corner of the universe all by myself!
Feel free to drop me a line anytime.

@kesa,
I don't think a lot of people here would like the way I would moderate and it would be a very short appointment to that position before I was booted out by popular vote.
Thanks for the thought though, but just being here for a long time does not qualify anyone to be a moderator. It takes someone that doesn't get their feathers ruffled as easily as I do.

Haha, fat chance. Amiga was before Amiga.org and people will still love the hardware, when the website is finally sold to Spanish lesbians.

Nah... I love listening to you witter away like a loon, besides if you were on an ignore list how me gonna find out about what you've been up to in that shady world of sex, drugs & rock'n'roll (well synth pop) you live in... :D

After looking at Karlos' comment I began to think about some of the posters I haven't seen here recently that used to give good useful answers.
There were a lot of interesting (and fun) folk that have either moved on over the years or gone into dormancy. In no particular order, Wilse, T_Bone, FluffyMcDeath, VincentAC, Kees, Glaucus, mips_proc (aka meerschaum), Blobrana, PMC, KennyR, Quixote, uncharted, lorddef, xeron, vortexau, seehund, Turambar, dezignersrepublic and many more besides :(

Now as you say it out loud. I'm really

@KThunder

Thanks for those links.
They probably won't remember me, but I certainly remember them. I was more of a lurker when they were here and still actively posting in the forums.
