The Settlers is one of the best games ever written for the Amiga... :)
Used to love playing the ex-wife at it for days on end. I'd encourage her to build up her land and villages and she would spend days building things and making roads as straight as possible... :)
While she was doing that I was sneakily building up my knights ready to launch an all out attack on her, could never stop howling with laughter as I watched her wee teary eyed sad face as I burned down everything she had spent days building up... :)
Sick & twisted... maybe but it was the object of the game after all, though it was pretty risky health wise when I finally burnt down her castle and then she would have a hairy fit and lob everything at hand at me... :)
Gawd... if there's one thing I miss about the missus, it was playing her at Settlers... :D

Haha! Cruel but I used to do the same with Sim City [to myself though], build it up and set off an earth quake! Sadly I too like to make straight roads and get everything in one place! I've got Setters 2 [the new version] for the PC too....that is pretty good!
I showed my son original Setters.....he was horrified!

I have to agree that this game is bad for your helth but for different reasons. I remember doing a 3+ day stint playing it with no sleep. Not to mention the amount of coffee and cigarettes I consumed during the process :P

Yup... the fags, coffee and lack of sleep were all part of the fun, luckily we trained our daughter to keep the coffee coming and empty the ashtrays and poke us if we began to nod off... ahhh, happy days... :)

Bought the Settlers II for the Amiga years ago played it for about 7 minutes then never looked at it again since, it was/is naff compared to the original... :(

Sadly the sequel to the very popular Amiga game The Settlers was only ever officially released on the PC and Mac. This was due to the unstable Amiga market when the sequel was released (1996). However later, an Amiga developer called Titan Computers approached Blue Byte and secured permission to port The Settlers 2 over to the Amiga. They worked as far as getting the game engine working, but when they requested the graphical elements from Blue Byte to complete the project Blue Byte changed their minds and decided it wasn't a viable project.
Therefore the Amiga port of The Settlers 2 was cancelled during conversion :(

The Settlers II was released on the Amiga and was called Foundation, but it was totally naff... :(

I loved this game. I would play it for hours. It only got better when I got an A1200 as the maximum map size simply got larger. The original had a feel and gameplay that the follow ups never really matched in my opinion. There's nothing like needing that last granite block for a building and watching it traverse from one side of your kingdom to the other really really really slowly. Then waiting for the knights to walk all the way to the outpost. Brilliant game.
Recently I've been playing minecraft ... that has all the fun of hunting for coal, iron and gold, except you're the miner, farmer, builder ...

Anyone ever made up any of there own landscapes with the Settlers Editor ???

You want to try Settlers 2 10th Anniversary on the PC its is good, not as good as the original on the Amiga. Never tried the Editor.....yet.....
The other game I lost days on was Dune 2! Another great game!
