Title: AmiChess
Post by: Xanxi on March 20, 2011, 06:31:05 PM
Hi amga.org fellowes.

I am trying to use AmiChess from aminet on my A1200/060/AGA/3.1.

The readme file says it need AOS3.5.
However, the game seems to run fine in a window on the 3.1 WB except for the pieces graphics being trashed.
My WB is set to 256 colors in Highres interlaced PAL with Indivision AGA.

Does anyone use it on WB 3.1 or know how to fix the problem?
Could i need some files from the OS3.5 to actually run teh software?

Thanks for your help.

Check with SnoopDos , and see which file fails to load ;-)

@Cass:
Good idea! Seems there is a problem with LIBS:mui/Colorfield.mui.inf, though LIBS:mui/Colorfield.mui is ok th line before.

@Cammy:
It seems OS3.5 is needed. My old 3.1 WB is so heavely patched that it is probably close to the OS3.5 enough to run this software.

I played in OS 3.9 and OS4.1 the same 68k executable in both cases the game runs fine.

I mailed the author. He is not using a real amiga anymore.
He gave me two ideas about what might be the problem: datatypes and screen resolution.
My datatypes are fine for ILBM and i can view the pieces fine with Multiview.
The screen resolution is PAL HighRes interlaced 640*512 + maximum overscan. The board itself is all in one piece within the screen. I see there is a piece set for 640 width resolution.

So i still do not know what it is not working.

Guess i am going back to Chessmaster or Battlechess.

Does anybody know how to remove a piece while editing the board ( I think double click or right mouse click should do that on GNU Chess )?

@ Xanxi
Just checked this on my A4000/AGA, it leaves 11KB chip mem free (plus trashed pieces gfx)... RTG works fine.
