Title: 32 meg simm problem on 040 card
Post by: Ponyboy on March 17, 2011, 02:49:53 PM
I'm trying to get a new 32mb edo sim to work on my Apollo 040 card. It runs fine with 16 megs and can go up to 32. I got the simm from Hypertec and it says PCCAM-BH 32mb DEC equiv. Not sure what the equivelant stuff is all about.
Its very tempermental, often reporting checksum errors during boot up and sometimes crashing altogether. If it does make it past loading wb it all shows up as being active on the title bar and in sysinfo but noramlly reports errors loading anything large. I'm not sure if its a power issue as I'm running a subway with 2 USB ports, 5 gig HD and this 040 with fan of a standard black amiga HD edition power supply and this simm has 4 more little chips on iit then my 16meg one.
Can anyone help please?

I'd say the Simm is either faulty or not compatible, I know the Apollo 1240's can be a little fussy with simms.  Also some double sided 32mb simms are too large and don't fit properly, so could even be a connection issue.

Best thing to so is try to find a slim or single sided 32mb simm :)

All the best.

Steve.

Thanks for that. Since your reply I,ve found out that the memoryis working fine from a 3.1 bootup as installed an old drive to test. It must be something 3.9 is doing, I'm wondering if its the file system. Its definatly something that is activated during the startup C:version causes error code 83 and i get smart file system messages reporting errors??

Just noticed it will boot from 3.9 if I dissable the cpu caches on startup.
