ergh.
Due to futile efforts (three hours worth of bucketing water), I now have to pack down all my Amiga systems & software and clear out the basement room where everything is set up due to flooding, which could have been prevented had the homeowner clued me in on the potential problem of the house not having adequate water drainage system, plus setting on a seasonal spring, coupled with the sump-pump having been removed years ago... ergh.
Fortunately, no damage to equipment. The homeowner has offered to compensate me (discounted rent) for my time moving stuff and helping out with the flood damage and carpet replacement. Down side to that is the time span in which the damage recovery is to take place. IE, no crack-team of carpet-layers is gonna come in and knock the job out in an afternoon. I'll be doing it after work in my spare time... The basement will be in a disarray for at least a month, which means that the project my friend and I are getting started with (short film) is being put on hold again.

I think that I would strongly suggest to the owner that a new sump system be put in place before any carpet is installed.

I kinda jumped his ass about the fact that this situation could have been prevented. Guess that's why he is compensating me for my time. Still, no excuse fo stupidity... IE, removing the back-up incase the primary fails. Pump is inplace and has moved over 1000 gallons of water and continues to pump at a rate of about a gallon every 5 minutes. Majority of the mop-up is complete, carpet and padding still very wet. Have been moving stuff to move stuff so there's room to move stuff to... ergh. At the moment, the VT/Flyer desk is stacked with everything that was stored underneath on the floor.
Attempting to fold space... :D

I hope you are back on your feet soon mate!

Find a new place not in a low lying area or at least not on the first floor.

I just use all the old dead bodies in me basement to soak up the water, mind you you have to get new ones when the old one begin to float cos they're rubbish after that... :)

Hopefully you'll manage to start work on that porno S&M film soon.

Might as well use the flood to your advantage. Does your film call for a dank dungeon?

Thanks for the comments guys. The weather chilled down and foot of snow fell overnight. The flowing water has subsided to a small trickle and the pump is still active. In the process of boxing down a bookshelf full of software and manuals and a larger bookshelf stacked with hardware. Don't know where the hell I'm gonna put the desk (small bomb shelter) and the VT/Flyer set-up.
kedawa ~ No, there is no dank dungeon scene in the script. I'd imagine with some prop modification it would make do for a "south of the boarder" jail cell.
Darrin ~ So what your saying is that you'd like to audition for a part? heh
Franko ~ Ring'em out and hang'um to dry and they are reusable a few more times.
Argo ~ Not financially feasible. Sumppump and a bit of common sense is substantially less expensive than relocating an entier household to avoid an occasional problem with mother nature. ...bitchslapping the homeowner is an added bonus.
The short film is a mock of those "Above the Influence" commercials. We are using background story from the Blue Oyster Cult tune "Then Came the Last Days of May".

Is it a "small part" or a "big part"? :D
