Just kiding ;P
I finally got bored with the LoonyBD backrops and decided to fire up the Gimp on my Debian box, ArtPro and PPaint on my Amiga.
A couple of screenshots from my a1200:

@ Tempest
Nah... you had it right in the threads title, them screenshots are "@#$%$#! ugly!"... :D

Looks quite nice for default 8color MWB palette.

I think it looks okay, but I think it would looks worlds better in 16 or 32 colors and the memory/speed difference would be so small I'd go for that.

Where can I get these backdrops?!

This is just awesome. I seriously wish OS 4 had this look as the default. I never understood what people see in this Mason-Icons stuff.
Edit: To understand my enthusiasm: look at these images on an iPhone without zoom. The patterns will blend just enough to make it look both smooth and crisp. It looks less great on a regular TFT though.

Look pretty nice. I'd probably get a copper fade program to do the backgrounds though.

Anyone knows if the MWB guy was a real designer? I wonder how the full color MWB icon set would have looked like, to bad we all pirated MWB so much he did not want to do it :)

I like the Buddha backdrop :-)
For some of the images I think you could use a flat colour before reducing the number of colours to reduce the dithering in some parts. E.g. you could use a flat blue background for Buddha and use a soft copper rainbow from slightly darker blue to a softer blue.
@haywirepc
8colours will work on ECS at useable speed, 16 won't.
For 4 colours the WB 1.x palette looks nicer, I'd like to have 4-colour iconset that uses 1.3 palette

oThe "Amiga look and feel" always meant 3.1 and 8 color MWB an MUI

No, it didn't and doesn't. But it's beautiful anyways, at least in this incarnation.

And what is the toolbar in use here?

I'm using ToolManager 2.1 with an update. If you can't find it, I'll mail it to you or post it here.
On Aminet you can find Toolmanager 3.1 which has a much nicer preferences editor but it has ugly borders on the panel.

Thanks. It looks good on my A4000T. I still run MWB on WB 3.1. Is there anyway you could make the pictures bigger.. say 1024x768? :)
-
The MWB icon set and palette was probably the most well-designed and distinctive ever produced. It's certainly the best-looking for an 8 colour Workbench.
In my opinion it was far better than NewIcons or any of the later offerings...
Long live MWB!
Mike.

Maybe I could (http://home.xmsnet.nl/toto/mwb8c_bd_1024.zip). The original images are also included.
