After a few years of no spare time I've taken up an old hobby of mine again - 3D modelling. Decided to go for making a render of my old trusty C64C. I'm a bit rusty and it's still a work in progress, but let me know what you think:
WIP rendering (http://www.lamerexterminator.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/c64_11.jpg)
I'm going to play around a bit with the lightning and the colours aren't quite correct...
But it sort of looks like a C64, I hope. ;)
The Software I've used is Softimage XSI

Pretty damn nice... :)
Only thing I'd say though is there is something about the colours used, seem a bit too "greyish" to me looking at the real C64c sitting beside me here... :)

Yeah, I agree. I'm going to give it a go with either changing the colours of the model or perhaps play with the lightning a bit. Or both. :D
Uploaded another version (but still grey) to the Gallery just now.

Once again very nice indeed... :)
I could take a picture of a mint condition C64c that I have here (absolutely no discolouration) and post it here for you to compare the proper colour if you want... :)

Yeah, that would be great. The one I've got is seriously yellowed and not one key is the same colour as the other ones so that one is pretty rubbish to base anything regarding original colours on. ;)

No problem, it'll probably take me about half an hour though as I'll need to set up the lighting to make sure the photo shows the true colours... :)

Ok here it is, it's a perfect match to the real thing when comparing it on my monitor here, but I can't tell if it will show the same on whatever monitor you're using... :)

Thanks Franko, I'll see if I can match the colours. :)

This thing is driving me slightly crazy. I'm changing the lightning, the colours, the brightness and I never seem to get anything good out of it. I've done so many versions now I don't even know what it's supposed to look like anymore.
Here's the latest attempt. Is it better than it was or is it worse?
-
While it's still a really good rendering, it still has that "greyish" colour to it when it should really have the that faint "pinkish/cream" colour to it, no idea how your can achieve this as rendering gfx was never something I really did much... :)
-
I've added some cream to it. It's a bit better, right? :)
-
Just dragged both pics out and compared them side by side, much much better but your gonna hate me for this, it still needs a wee touch of a "pinkish" hue when compared side by side with the real thing... :)
It's hard to describe properly just what I mean plus you have to take into consideration that each persons monitor/screen will display the image slightly different, But to be honest the last pic is the closest yet... :)
-
your gonna hate me for this
Hate is a strong word, how about a "slight dislike". ;)
I'm doing a new render in a while and I think I'm on to something now. :D
-
Here we go. More cream to the people!

Whoo hoo...
That's the one... :)
That's as near as damn it that anyone could ask for... :)
Well done and congratulations... :)
NOW... here's the thing I'd like to display that in the gallery section on my CommodoreScotland.com site as it's just so sweeeet... :D
Can I have your permission to do so and any details you'd like displayed with it about yourself... please... pretty please... :D

Sure, no problem! I'll attach two bigger version that you can use as you wish on your site. If you could link back to my blog (the one in the signature) where you place the images that would be great. :)

I read your post to quickly and got the impression that you would do actual rendering ON the C64 =)
So I thought I've got to check this out, and when i saw the picture I thought, "No way he could have done THAT on an actual C64!?, must have taken years for it to render!"
Nice job BTW =)

That would be neat... any idea when you may have the renders finished... :)
