Read this interesting article (http://www.medialifemagazine.com/news2001/apr01/apr02/3_wed/news5wednesday.html)
They're here for some time yet...
-
I use Privoxy, so I don't care.
And decent browsers will block the popups, too.
-
If you really hate popups, use privoxy (http://www.privoxy.org/) :-)
-
I don't get em here either, they rate right up there with email spam though, quite annoying but easier dealt with.
-
I use Netscape 7.blablabla, it will block about 99% of pop-up's :)
I just thought it was strange that people actually click on them!
-
Maybe they click on them by mistake.
But there are also popups that mislead, like "Your computer may be infected by a virus. Click here for a FREE virus check!" or those bastards that take up the full screen and you can't get rid of them. For people who don't use the internet regularly, these can catch a lot of them out.
-
opera also blocks pop ups
-
You can always use the unregistered version of AWeb, and you get no annoying POPUps ;-)

Safari or Camino block pop-ups, or if you have to use IE find out the keyboard short cuts to close individual windows. Command+W for me. :hammer:
-
If you are mad enough to use IE, adsheild is the uber advert blocker. It blocks scripted popups that use onLoad and delyaed methods alike. I have never seen a single popup when using it.
Lastly preprocesses the HTML before the browser sees it. It filters out (based on a list of partial or full URL specifications you give it) images and flash objects alike.
Since this happens before the browser sees the html, it never even tries to download the blocked content, so its a bit faster too ;-)
Simply telling it to filter stuff like '/ads/', '/bannerads/' etc. removes so much sh!te from pages. Any image that does appear in your page that you don't want to see again, you can just right-click and add to your blocklist (usuially just the path to folder suffices, since blocking individual images is fighting a tide!).

What?! Karlos admitted using IE!!!
Burn him, burn him!
No, even better, throw in the nearest river, if he drowns, he is innocent, if he floats....burn him, burn him!
I use Firefly Opbrowsezilla, so I'm obviously a better class of computer user....
-
Firebird, no pop-ups :-)

I don't recall admitting that :-) It was info for those that do use it ;-)

I myself use POW! (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pow.htm) which is a nice little tool to get rid off popups.
-
Mozilla Firebird has built-in popup blocking. I've set it as my default browser and now enjoy blissful surfing.
-
Hmm, amongst my friends, its impossible to find someone who doesn't use IE - amongst Amiga.org users, its impossible to find PC surfers who don't use Firebird....I have tried to convince my friends of Firebird's virtues...hey, you'd think tabbed browsing alone would be a good enough reason to switch!
-
Grrrrrr! There are hardly any browsers out there now apart from Aiiiiieeeeeee that still suffer from popups. It makes ME really frustrated watching people suffer the agonising slow reaction of and multi-popup madness of M$'s piss-poor effort. I know people too who are so fscking brainwashed they will STILL use it, swearing and cursing every 30 seconds about something than change to Opera, Mozilla, Netscape ...
-
unfortunatly, i have to use a "managed" desktop winXP system at workand have to use IE like everyone else. i'm not allowed to hook the gateway into the unix switch as "it maybe a security risk". funny that. don't see may script kiddies writing for solaris. i dunno. i don't pay for this stuff :-D so let em get on with it :-)
-
ooooooook......
Is there an Amiga version pop-up ad blocker available now?
-
I don`t remember having ever a problem with pop-ups on my Amiga browsers, maybe because I (almost) never go to that kind of sites :PP
I once had a problem with Opera on the PC, it opened 4-5 pop-ups and when I was closing one, automatically opened 2 new ones!
-
I took advantage of turning off javascript in iBrowse but tend to forget to turn it on on some pages with forms. That's my advantage. :-)
-
Just like Cecilia I prefer to let Opera do all the work, surfing and mailing. Outlook Express just sits on my harddrive to fill up space and it hasn't been used once. About IE, I only use it for pages that Opera can not deal with.
Dagon : you have to set 'refuse popups' in the Opera prefs !!! ;-)
-
I would use Netscape exclusively (on the PC) if only certain sites worked in it! For example, I use online banking but IE is the only browser that supports the bank's website! :-x
-
Then change to a better bank.
You can do online banking and even trading shares with Amiga Browsers!
