Title: First time Amiga user from Sweden
Post by: Damiga on February 14, 2011, 08:02:27 AM
Hi!

How did this happen... I was on the hunt for a replacement for my old Atari 520, but somehow I ended up with 3 Amigas!!!

Well Ataris turned out hard to find and there are more Amigas around here in sweden. But I've never used an Amiga, "how hard can it be?". So a week ago I managed to buy 1 Amiga 500, 1 Amiga 500+, And one Amiga 600HD for a total of 1000 SEK (about 110 euro).

So far I've replaced the Harddrive in The Amiga 600 and tried out a few games, It actually wasn't that hard, reading old posts on the forum helped me alot.

Now I'm on the hunt for an Amiga 1200

I'm sooooo happy for my new Amigas! this is gonna be fun!

Hi,

Im from Sweden to, if you are interested in an Atari I have a STF520 (or was it 1020 something?!) something in my closet? It seems to be working but missing RGB cable.

I would have wanted to try out Super Sprint and Oids on it though...

Three machines for that price seems sweet enough :)
Was wondering how come you were searching for Atari's and settled in with 3 Amigas? Was it for nostalgic-gaming or music-making or something else?

Då får jag också passa på att hälsa Dig välkommen till ett riktigt trevligt och ofta livligt forum!
Ja, även jag är från Sverige ;)

I actually still have my old Atari.
I found it in my moms basement, but i don't have a power supply or floppy drive. Couldn't find my old floppies either so I was starting from scratch. I think it's still working, at least it did 10 years ago

So I brought it home for nostalgic reasons and I will keep it even if it's broken. So I didn't actually plan on using it, but out of curiousity I started to search for used Ataris for sale. But I noticed that there weren't a lot of them around, so i thought, hmmm what about Amiga. And then I suddenly had more options.

I started reading on the net about Amiga and noticed that there was a lot of people still using their Amigas, Atarians seems to almost have dissapeared. Since the games available for Atari and Amiga are basically the same and the fact that there are more Amigas around I decided to buy an Amiga. And it's always fun to learn something new!

I immediately found the ad for 3 Amigas for sale for just about 110 euro, and just an hours drive away, so I called him up and said hey can "I come pick em up tonight". And the rest is history as they say... or in my case, future.

He had actually lowered the price, at first he wanted about 50 euros each for the Amiga 500 and 500+, and another 70 euros for the Amiga 600.
The Amiga 500 and 500+ both have 1MB, the 600 has 2MB.
One of the Amiga 500 has some sort of pc emulator expansion, but I haven't investigated much about it, at the moment I got more interesting stuff to do than running ms-dos on the Amiga =)

I also got 3 extra floppy drives(external), RocGen Genlock (rc300 iif i remember correctly), something called "Vidi Amiga 12" - also used for video i think, A hand-held grayscale scanner, 3 mice and a TAC-2.
So I think i made a good deal =)

Well my room is full of stuff at the moment, and hopefully I'll soon be owner of one or two Amiga 1200.

So keep it in your closet a little longer, unless you're planning to throw it away? in that case I'll take so it doesn't end up in million pieces in a junk pile. I feel bad just thinking about ppl throwing away old Ataris And Amigas :(

It's mostly for Gaming at the moment, But i received a bunch of books on programming so I might give that a try also.

Fun with so many Swedes around, but I'll keep this in English so everyone can understand =)

If anybody in Stockholm wants to get rid of an Atari ST/STe I'll have it for emulation testing!
I have one in the UK but not here, and I am bringing up the ST code on the replay board soon.
Cheers,
MikeJ

Great, thanks!

I'm thinking of adding "fast ram" (correct term?) to be able to run more games with whdload on the Amiga 600, so that link might come in handy

I am in Stockholm, but I want to sell the Atari. My plan was to fix a cable for it to connect it to my 1084 but Im a lazy MF so nothing happened for 6 months. When I fixed a cable I will let it go.

I got some finish roots to, but I only know of one word in the Finlandian language -Perkele-, it means "Welcome, how are you" in english....

...(I think)

Norwegian here...

Btw. since there seems to be a few of us here, there are two decent Nordic/Scandinavian forums left:

Swedish: http://safir.amigaos.se/

Danish: http://www.amiga.dk/

Danish here, though I live in the US now.

Amiga is great fun! Always fun to hear from people who are coming to the machine now.
