Title: Amiga AKeyboard: The dream is over
Post by: VingtTrois on February 07, 2011, 01:23:59 AM
Is it still a new project that will not pass the project stage?
Is it the next Not-Compatible-AMIGA machine by COMMODORE USA ? :)

http://design.yozmontana.com[/b] (by Yoz Montana)

My opinion: the design is very beautiful.

I have to agree with Kesa on this one, that thing is hideous. It was hideous when it was shown as a potential case to Natami, and it still is now. Weirdly though its the exact same render as what was being touted to be a potential natami case which was shown some months ago.

I wouldn't call it hideous, it's just not something I'd like to have sitting on my desk... :)

Black shiny keyboards are the type of things that are only good for display purposes, if you actually used the thing it would very quickly become very grubby looking with oily fingerprints and dust, you'd spend more time cleaning the ruddy thing than using it... :)

I like the Tron-ey look of the thing, but that keyboard arrangement just looks damned inconvenient. Also, Franko's point is very true - I have a lovely glossy black laptop that is never pretty anymore because the finish attracts and clearly displays all of my various fingerprints. Pretty to look at, not to use.

And when you rest your wrists on it to type it will push down the front and lift the back up. Unless the motherboard, HDD and PSU in it weigh a few kilos.

Form over function is the way of most keyboards these days though. Ergonomics were forgotten years ago.

I like it. Would go with a different typeface for the AMIGA lettering (the traditional Garamond or Bodoni), but otherwise very sleek.

Something's getting lost in translation, though. In English, "the dream is over" sounds like the finality of defeat. Needs a new slogan :)

...it's black. I think almost anything looks cool with black and a few neon colors, but ughhh....

...has this company actually released ANYTHING?

"The dream is over"

I thought that meant that whatever this was would NOT be getting made.

"The dream made reality" or something would be better.

The author would surely make us realized that dream is over and it is becoming now a real project. Hopefully it will not yet a failed project, even if some dislike the design. Wait & See...

I like the look of it -- good update on the A1200 design.  But Cammy is right about the leverage issue on the front of the keyboard.

Like others have said - something is wrong with the translation of the slogan "The Dream is Over".

To a native English speaker "The Dream is Over" is an expression of defeat, meaning that hope has been crushed like  "the dream is dead".

It should read "The dream made reality" or "The dream has finally arrived".

No longer a dream, maybe?
I doubt this is going to actually hit the market as a real product, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

That site makes no sense at all. Did anybody actually read the copy?

At the top it says "Only One Amiga" but then it shows the all-in-one keyboard "Amiga", and the box "Unit Amiga Core" aka "Unit Center Amiga".

"SUPER A.G.A. HD" - orly?

"Retractable Keyboard" operation shown in the 6th image down. Okay, what purpose does this serve? So when you get tired of flipping up the back in "open" position you can "close" it to a more stable configuration?

The large lighted port on the back is designated as the "LUA (Link Universal Amiga)". Okay, so in addition to creating a SUPER AGA HD chip he's also going to create a proprietary connector and I assume protocol. Perhaps to connect to the rather ambiguous "Unit Amiga Core"?

"Grid Area" - for those times you want to get on the Grid. You've been on the Grid, right?

Seriously, there's nothing going on here except some guy practicing his rendering skills.

Nope, in English the term is very clear - when "the dream is over", it specifically means defeat and failure (to achieve the dream).

I feel the same. In the 90s I always wanted black hardware. But the experience of the last years showed that it´s the old beige boxes that have the advantage. But I don´t mind getting more colorful than that. E.g. I liked Apples original iMacs. I also think that the X1000 could use some bright/colorful makeover.

Illuminated keyboards for example are a bit distracting and completely unnecessary, if you have a beige Keyboard and just a little light in the room (think "monitor").
Have you ever tried finding a black pen in a black backpack?

And on that note, I wish they still made metal toy trucks with sharp corners. They always helped to delete the "not so bright children" out of society, thus resulting in a brighter future with less politicians, bankers, and capitalists. ;)

As a kid, I would sleep with at least one tractor-trailer truck and Tonka of some kind. Amazingly I'm still here. :)

I like that the keys are back lit, or look that way.

I've always liked fan created mockups of nextgen machines, even if they will never see the light of day.

This one sure is pretty and shiny, but like others have said it looks terribly unusable.  Then again, I only liked the big box Amiga's anyways and not the 500/600/1200, so I'm most certainly in the minority there.

I think most things should have drink holder! We love them in our cars but they never made the transition to other parts of our lives. My cat comes and deliberately tries to knock over my beer.

Well maybe cat holder? Or a beer holder; I have a lot of cats, so maybe a whole beer-cat-computer system. Wow I'm having a break through moment!  BCC, hmmm

You shouldn't drink & drive you know... :)

Best solution would be to put the cats in a sack and drown them in the nearest canal... no more spilt drinks... problem solved... ;)

Or find that woman who stuffs them in wheelie bins... :)

My buddy once shot me in the forehead with a Master of the Universe Battle Cannon. I think that has something to do with the fact that I opt to use old, out dated computers over modern and currently supported ones.

In regards to the cat and beer issue...

...they do make Cup holders for computers, or so I've was told by my customers when I used to do tech support for a local ISP.

I've attached an image of one in case you are having issues finding yours. Though I will warn you, they are only compatible with the pointy ended Dixie cups.

I thin it looks smart myself, but then what do I know.
At times I think people tend to complain more about something than not, at least its better than nothing.
Yes I do respect others opinions about Amiga products but hey lets face it they are doing some thing we are not. And thats being productive so others can complain about it.

Agree Franko.  I have a glossy black Razar Tarantula Keyboard, At least it has a matte wrist rest, forever grubby and dusty to the point that I have a cleaning cloth in the drawer next to me.
I reckon it looks nice apart from that.  Pity its not a "real" Amiga.

Salut 2316
Voici mon annonce :
http://www.commodore-amiga.org/en/forum/5-commodore-amiga-hardware-wishlist-/1561-akeyboard-real

Hello 2316
Here's my ad:
After 3 months of exchange with CUSA, the community is right on all AMIGA points.
The concept does not suit them despite the various changes provided they asked me in recent weeks.
I also heard that Marko would Hirvi doing as a Design:
http://www.commodore-amiga.org/en/forum/5-commodore-amiga-hardware-wishlist-/1561-akeyboard-real
So therefore I do not see how my design might be
produced by CUSA.
I will publish the model that they asked me that does not good.
I am trying to continue to produce it, I'll explain in detail the evolution of the concept.
So much for the news.

Hi,

You are 100% correct on this one and besides it doesn't even look like an Amiga. Hit the end of the keyboard with a hammer and watch it flip.
