Hi All,
This is a call for help. Several days ago I accidently corrupted the workbench disk of my set of six of the WB 3.1 OS. I need a copy of just the one disk. This is not an effort to get a copy of the disk illegally. I have the original disk which I bought several years ago and I also have the books that came with the OS. If need be I can send a picture of the disk and the book as proof of ownership. Unfortunately I don't know where the receipt is by now. I actually think I have it somewhere but I don't know where it is. I would be glad to compensate someone if they could help me with this. As a legal owner I believe that it is quite legal for me to get a copy from somebody. If anyone out there can help please answer or Email me. I only need the OS long enough to get the system up and working so I can install 3.9 from the CD drive.

If you have 3.1 running then use the 3.9 cd and take the option `create emergency disk´ which allows zou to boot up and install your full or empty harddrive with the 3.9 cdrom providing that you have connected that cdrom the same way as when you created the emergency disk.
If that doesn´t make you happy then I can suggest that you send that corrupted Workbench 3.1 disk to me and I shall put a copy of my own legal Workbench 3.1 disk on. Would this make you happy :-?

Hum,
A tricky one that....
The OS3.9 CD contains all the files for an emergency boot disk to be made... you have to copy those by hand...
I presume that you do have a hard-drive. in which case; look for a magazine disk that will actually boot up your machine, then you can copy those emergency files to the HD....
or
to make a bootable floppy with most of the file that you need...
Is it possible to install an earlier OS copy? THEN UPGRADE those files with the files that you salvage from mag cover disks etc?
Anyway good luck,
perhaps someone else can help you.

Actually, I'm in about the same situation you are.
My OS 3.1 WB disk is also corrupted....
I have a working copy, not all origonal but it works.
I like to keep my origonals, I have had need for them
on several ocasions.
I have OS 1.3, 2.04, 3.1, and 3.9.
If you can get someone to 'DMS' a copy for you
then put it away. You'll probably need it again.
The 3.9 Emergency disk is not always the best
way.

I also like to keep my originals. In the past I had several times reading problems with the Install 3.1 disc, I hated that !! So I made a dms file of it and copied it every time it refused to work ...
Also this, an external drive might do the trick better than the internal when you encounter a read error !!

Hey it isn't THAT difficult to find Amiga stuff online.. Just enter workbench 3.1 download into google and take your pick.
I thought everyone just googled up first before asking.
If you have the original disk (albeit a broken one) your conscience should be clean when clicking the DL link. :-)

If you've got OS3.9 on CD then I'm pretty sure that you'll find the original 3.1 files archived on it somewhere.
Can anyone verify this?

Hi DGB
if you have intention to buy the 3.9CD, you have no need to have the 3.1 installed.
You can Install the AOS3.9 directly and, like option, to upgrade from 3.1 (i suggest you anyway, a full 3.9 install)
Ciao

@ DGB
Have you tried searching the net? It's all there AFAIK ...

Hi Effy,
I appreciate the offer but I think I can probably find a copy a little closer to home. Besides, using mail to do that would probably take a month for the round trip. As for what would make me happy is concerned, it has nothing to do with this. Thanks for the offer though.

I have not so far been able to get the create emergency disk function to work but in fairness I must admit that Asim CDFS may not be functioning correctly. I was able to use my PC to extract the nescessary files to another CD whic I may be able to use to creat a boot disk. With the CD I copied to I can probably use a utility to transfer the files I need to a floppy. It seems I can do that much even though I can't create an emergency boot disk. I just need to know which files should be on the disk. Maybe someone can help with that.
It seems to be the conensus here that I have a working computer to start with. I don't. I have a big pile of parts, a corrupted WB 3.1 on floppies, OS 3.9 on CD and a floppy with Asim CDFS on it. That's all I got and no more. I have to get it going from there.

As much as I hate to show my ignorance here I have to ask. What is DMS.
Dave

Thanks. That sounds like the most logical solution. I wasn't aware that it was available there.

'DMS' is 'Disk Masher System' ......
The best way to compress an origonal disk
as when its un-compressed it is an exact copy
of the origonal disk. I use it to archive all my
origonals to CD Rom.
