I have some .dms files I've downloaded off aminet and am wondering what to do with them. Usually I get .adfs, write them to floppy then back to a HD install if they'll go that way. Do I just need the .dms version of adf-blitz?
-
DMS is a much older format, roughly analogous to ADF, but compressed. Write them back to disk with a program called... DMS!
You can also mount them with diskimage.device if you have XAD installed.

alrighty then! I will track down dms on the aminet and grab that too while I'm at it :)
Thankee Kindly!

Linky (http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/dms111) :)

If I remember right DMS stands for Diskmasher. I personally hate it because it often results in a corrupt file. Somebody needs to tell those developers to err on the side of caution.

In Classic WB it's done by Tracksaver, works really well as long as you fromat while writing and verify, so check them.

DMS: Disk Masher System :)
IMHO, TSGUI is the best for ADF or DMS images.
Get it (and more) here, from Thomas Rapp's site of total awesomeness:

Yep, we are talking about the same thing :)
Again yes, be sure to clean format the floppy before transfer, otherwise it can often fail, even though TracksaverGUI (TSGUI) re-writes the disk.
Awesome program from an awesome dude!

If they are in dos format you dont need to extract them to floppy first. Just mount Rad: and type dms write filename.dms TO rad: and install the software from rad:
(and if you want to get rid of Rad: type Remrad force, it might also be possible to unmount it, not sure).

Ok got dms onto the miggy. the run file extracts the tool to my HD but it is non executeable from the command line. Where do I shove that guy to get him to work?
EDIT: I'm pretty sure it goes in C;. NVM. My brain is poop after a day of Calculus and induction proofs.

An alternative is to search on aminet for diskimage ...
