Hey folks,
Does anyone in the US have a power supply for an A1200 that they would like to sell me?. An A500 one would work as well (even better).
I'm also looking for a Midi interface.
Both of these seem kind of rare even on ebay. Most of the time you have to buy a bundle of stuff you don't need to get them!
-
How are you with soldering?
You can make your own midi interface fairly cheaply. It's just a few opto isolators and DIN sockets; there were schematics on Aminet for years.

My soldering skills are mostly non-existent!. I struggle to re-solder the wiring in my guitar!

In that case, I wish you luck. I have two such interfaces, but I happen to need them.

Clearly the most practical solution yet.

Seriously, they aren't difficult to make. It's just level conversion and isolation; no data manipulation to perform or anything like that which would otherwise bring microcontrollers into it.

It looks like TheGoose has a Midi interface for me!. It turns out that it's one I gave him years ago that he's not using.
Still looking for a PS though.........

Hmm... pity your not in the UK, plenty PSUs on evilBay... :)
16 Amiga PSUs £14.99 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/16x-PSUs-POWER-PACKS-AMIGA-500-600-1200-/290528542920?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item43a4d9c0c8#ht_1392wt_1182)

Bump! Anyone have a spare Power supply?
-
I've got another couple of A1200s arriving this week (hopefully) so once I've checked them out (I'm only after the mother boards & keyboards) I should have a spare one you could have for free if your willing to pay the P&P... :)
-
Sure that sounds great Franko!. I think I actually have a UK-to US power converter here somewhere. Any idea what the shipping might cost?

Not sure, but it shouldn't be too hard to find out. I'll PM you when they arrive and I've checked them out, according to the delivery thingy on ebay one should be arriving on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday... :)
(I've just bought another one about 20 minutes ago, seemed a bargain at £59... :))

Ive actually got a homebrew midi interface from 15 or so years ago when I bought a second hand a500 system from a guy who lived in a town that while a few hours away from me happened to be somewhere I often visited. Also had what I assume must be pretty rare in a 4 meg trapdoor expansion (unfortunately died while in storage for years) and a few other not common items. Was a good buy in it's day as for the price I was just expecting a pretty stock amiga 500 + extra floppy drive system. Anyway, all that aside a month or so later I learned I'd bought it off a friends boss, who I later jammed with a few times :)
Ironically (in regards to the post) I still have the power supply and midi interface :)

@ SpiHunter
Maybe this would be a better option for you PSU $30 including delivery...

Just took delivery of one of the A1200s I bought on ebay a few days ago, boy was it manky but it's fully working and had an 80MB HD, 4MB Fast Ram expansion & an EyeTech 4 Way buffered IDE interface which the seller didn't mention, first bargain I've got on ebay only £56... :)
Hopefully I should receive the other two in the next couple of days and once I've checked them out I'll send you a PSU if you still need one, but the postage may be quite expensive shipping all the way from Scotland, that's why I thought the above link may be a better option for you... :)
(finally found a use for an old MC68882 chip I had lying around it fits on the ram board... :))

Thanks for the heads up Franko!
I sent a PM to see if shipping to the US was possible.

Let me know how it goes and the offers still open here anyway... ;)

I actually have a UK 1200 power supply lying around too. Thing is.. I can't test it, so I have no idea if it works or not. But if you need another option, its yours for whatever shipping the damn thing would cost. Might be a little cheaper than from the UK.
You can also get more powerful ones from amigakit, in US configuration.
-
Well, the shipping from AUS to the US is going to be $40 so I'm not going to buy the one from the other thread. Amikit has a 300W one that is meant for a tower conversion that I could use. It wouldn't look very nice sitting on the desk but it would work?.

Thats what I use for my 1200. It works great, though its ugly as sin :)
If you are seriously expanding it, it'll certainly give you enough juice.

Or you could use a Pico PSU... With the right cable from Amigakit it could go:
Wall --> Pico PSU --> AmigaKit ATX to A1200 power cable --> A1200
Should be no soldering or hacking, lots a power. Howerver, this could look almost 4x uglier than the option above...

OK, I finally said "screw it" and ordered the 300W one from Amikit. At least I won't have to worry about maxing out the power on it even if it is ugly!

I've been really happy with mine. Its a tad noisy but nothing too bad. Mostly in comparison to how quiet the 1200 is, with a CF hard drive :)

I have an ECE Amiga MIDI interface. PM me for details.
