Free hug to the first person who says "I stopped responding to stupid threads on forums" or some variation thereof.
What are things you've stopped doing in the past few months, that resulted in a positive change to your life (whether intentional or as a side effect) ?
I got a few but the most persistent one is I stopped paying much attention to the news. If something is a big deal, I'll hear about it anyways, and I can go read up on a few different sources.
Mostly, I got tired of the scare mongering, the petty bickering and the mockery of "journalism" that goes on in this country to a degree I find shocking.
As a result, Im a lot happier :)
As a result of a minor third-life crisis (Im not at the mid point yet, I hope), I also stopped pirating any sort of music, shows, movies etc.
Can't say Im 100% clean, as I have loads of amiga software that you can't buy anymore, but for media stuff, its all either things I legitimately own, or indie stuff thats free to share anyways.

I stopped responding to bums when they ask me for change. I never gave them money to start with, but I just decided they don't deserve my attention either.

Wow... never met a talking bum before...
Anyway back on topic... no hugs here then as you can see from my first thread back... :)
Strange... I always have a TV switched on 24/7 on the SKY News channel but the sounds always down and I never actually watch it, the world could be about to end and I'd be sitting here with my miggies typing keeck on this mac listening to my music while on the big telly my HD media box loops through my top 200 favorite films and I would be blissfully unaware that we were all doomed... :)
To me it's all quite simple with no need to change anything (even my I'll health) just enjoy what you have and try to laugh at all life has to throw at you, we only get one go at life so always try and be happy in whatever you do just as long as it does no harm to others... :)

Stopped eating junk food. :(

Ive tried too, but so far Im settling on "eat less of the stuff"

World of Warcraft.
I still get *cold shivers* (haha) even though I stopped it in November -- been playing since first week of retail release. Sometimes I find myself twiddling thumbs, especially if on iTunes it runneth over from a previous album on to the WoW Lich King soundtrack. Might get Cataclysm to give it a whirl, but am not sure yet. Don't wanna get dragged in again lol.

Gotta be honest I don't see the point in giving up things you enjoy in life, in 2007 one of my lungs collapsed for no apparent reason during my 4 day stay in hospital the buggers made me give up my ciggies & covered me in nicotine patches... :(
First thing I did on release was stand with all the other smokers at the hospitals main entrance and enjoy 3 ciggies in a row... still smoking at least 40 a day now... :)
Point is why give up something you really enjoy even if there is a slight chance it could kill you, we've all gotta go sometime so you might as well do the things you enjoy before it's game over-no more credits left... :)

@Franko
What happens to all your Amiga stuff when you die?
[SecretHint]
Feel free to include me in your will. :D

@ChaosLord
Actually I have thought about that, my daughter would just bin it, one of my brother-in-laws knows the value and would put it on ebay and make a small fortune... :(
As family & relatives will be left enough cash, I would prefer my Amiga stuff and my SNES collection to go to someone who would actually enjoy them rather than sell them and I've kinda been looking for someone who I think might genuinely appreciate them... :)
Could be a lot sooner than you think from the state of my health these days and I'm already on a time limit with other health problems anyway. So whomever gets their grubby little mits on my gear shouldn't have too long to wait... :)
(often thought about binning them just for the sheer hell of it, but I don't have the heart to do that... I think... ;))
-
argh, dont bin amiga stuff or commodore amiga iran will declare jihad on you beyond the grave ! :)
Every amiga binned is one less person to use them.
I agree, no point stopping enjoying life, but sometimes we have habits that are better off without. So its more about that, I think

How can you enjoy smoking ciggies? What's to enjoy? They are filthy things *pukes*. I thought people only done them because they can't stop.

Love the things, don't want to stop... :)
Interesting story regarding ciggies, just over 3 years ago while I was up a ladder out the back of the house cleaning the gutters, as I descended the ladder I yelled out in agony as I thought I'd put me back out and couldn't straighten up... :(
I hobbled double up back into the house where I collapsed on the kitchen floor, when I came too I was bent over double in pain like I'd never felt before, couldn't straighten up and felt awfully dizzy and was struggling to breath... :(
So what did I do... reached up to the kitchen worktop to grab a ciggy and lay there puffing away trying to figure out how to reach the phone... :)
Anyway, luckily at that point my sister popped by and found me and called an ambulance, next thing I knew I was in hospital with someone stabbing me in the side of the chest with a scalpel and sticking a tube in me...
Anywho turned out I'd had a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and had been puffing away on me fag with only one lung and suffocating meself... :(
Well after a four day stay in hospital and warned never to smoke again, I'm afraid I only got as far as the hospital exit doors before lighting up three ciggies in a row as I was dying for one... :)
Back to forty a day (at least) once again lungs still inflated but I did give up climbing ladders after that scare... :)
-
Hehe, things we do, Franko. :D
Hang on, I smoke as well :-O

Take my advice keep smoking and just don't climb any ladders... ;)
(PS:the one good thing about smoking and being an Amiga owner is, you don't have to worry about just the keys on your miggie turning yellow, the whole thing does and so it all looks the same... :))

I've in the same hook as you, Franko, but lowered my small cig consumption to 4 per day and my lungs are in good (?) shape owing to daily brisk walk.

Really? Mine talks all the time, especially after "Chili Wednesday."

Self-control - after 40 years of 30 cigarettes per day you really need it...
I dropped 30 kg via walking and food control in 3 years - had to do it because my knees were about to wear out. Now I can climb stairs again.

Since I was 16 till the age of 34 I used to smoke 15 to 20 CIGARS a day, but the ex-wife made me give them up cos it was so damned expensive, that's when I started on the ciggies at about age 34 now 47 and don't think I'll see 57, but who care I've enjoyed it, it's been a good life... :)
PS: If I dropped 30kg I'd disappear, never been more than 10 stone my entire life... :) (also I live in a bungalow so no worries about stairs...:))

What about 77 Franko. It's 30 years from now. I'm sure you could enjoy yourself for 20 of them. Watched a show about a guy 73yo who was on deaths door after his wife passed away. His GP convinced him to go on Motorbike riding tours local and international. At 87 He just finished a solo ride around Australia this year. The experiences he'd have missed if he gave it away. Groove is in the heart.
I've given up preaching.
-
77... don't think any Scotman has ever reached that age, it's a myth I tell ya... :)
(PS: 30 years go bye in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while you can, a few more blinks and before you know it they're stuffing you in a dirty big hole in the ground... ;))

What about the Highlander?

I've not stopped anything really, I still do all the stuff I enjoy doing :D In fact I've started doing stuff I used to do, I'm weight training again and it feels great!
