Title: Relokick to Upgrade
Post by: polyp2000 on January 24, 2011, 05:01:38 PM
I was wondering if anyone know if it would be possible to use Relokick or something similar to upgrade the Rom from 3.0 to 3.1?

Or is the only way to get a hardware rom switcher?

Im currently updating my old a1200 - from out the woodwork and as far as i am aware you need 3.1 to run WB3.5

Regards

N.

3.1 Roms for the A1200 are easy to find, cheap and very easy to replace.

Having said that, i am sure it is very possible as all relokick does is load the 1.3 ROM into a portion of the memory.

I remember the Blizzard 1230 had a program called Blizkick (or something) which would load a Kickstart 3.1 rom into my then Kickstart 3.0 A1200 and i was able to run OS3.9.

In the past I used one of the softkick tools to load a 3.1 ROM (I had 3.0 ROMs at the time) and run OS3.9.  The only one I got to work used 500k or so chipram to load the ROM, I never figured out how to load it into fastram (cheap Typhoon '030 accelerator.)

I'd definitely recommend spending the $20-$30 on a set of 3.1 ROMs.

I was able to softkick 3.1 on both an a1200 and an a4000 using skick. Os3.9 worked... The only issue was that I was not able to use the 3.9 "romupdate". I would agree that it is much more convienant to have the real roms, but quite feasable to softkick.

I'm interested in this too - store 3.1 on the hard disk, run from a custom startup-sequence and boot Workbench 3.9. Anybody got a how-to?
