Asking this question ahead of time: Will YAM work with pulling email from a gmail account, or are there another email app that will do the trick?
Cheers!

It works fine here. Setting it up was not much different than any other account I've used in the past.

Thats good to know, thanks.
Are there a better email app to consider for 3.1?

There could be, but YAM has done everything I'd want an e-mail client to do since the '90s, so I wouldn't really know.

SimpleMail is the only viable alternative these days, but I use YAM :)

GMail also works fine through IBrowse.

Is there IMAP support already in YAM?

Not yet, unfortunately :(
SimpleMail's got it, though.

For those that have got gmail working through Ibrowse and YAM, did you also need to install Amissl? or can gmail work without ssl?

imho YAM was always better than Simplemail. Simplemail used to crash my A4k even after a fresh 3.9 install.
Alarm bells.

Does anyone use a text based email client that they can recommend, like pine, elm or mutt?
-
Can YAM also be configured to retrieve Hotmail?

AFAIK yes, Hotmail now supports POP3 connections.
