It looks like much more than just a console collection. Look in the top left corner. It looks like a control panel straight from a full size arcade machine. Very nice. Shame about the collection though but what else do you expect from a cane toad?

Care to explain what you mean by that? I really hope you didnt mean to imply that because he's from Qld. he was somehow to blame, or even that it's ok (even if it was in jest) ?
If that was the implication then I congratulate you for being the worlds biggest cockroach.

LOL

What i meant was because he's a Queenslander if it wasn't the floods it  would have been something else. Everyone south of the border knows that  Queenslanders are cursed... :)

Going by your unusually defensive reaction i am assuming you live in Queensland. If that's the case then i feel for you... :)

As for being called "the world's biggest cockroach", well... well that hurts a lot :(

Nope, Im not from Qld., I just have a little thing I like to call sympathy. As for the cockroach comment I didnt say you are, but rather that you are if your comment was intended as it sounded. You say it wasnt your intention and I have no interest in argueing that. Only you know for sure.

I don't think you're remotely qualified to award that accolade .. have you seen Kesa play rugby? I haven't but I bet if he did make the NSW side, there'd be a bit more noise about it on these forums.

:-)

Didn't 50% of QLDers moved there from other states. Pitty bout the mess. And people in New castles shouldnt throw haggis.

Hehe, took me a second to work out what you meant. Im from Victoria and dont follow rugby (am an AFL guy along with most of the rest of my state)  :)

Back on topic though, poor guy, looks like quite a nice collection. Hopefully with a bit of time and effort though he'll be able to salvage a lot of it though.

Unlikely. Mud and electronics DO NOT mix well together. I'm willing to bet it's all junk now :(

I genuinely feel for the guy. Such a nice collection and most of it with no cash value. Must have taken him a long time to build up a collection like that so i won't be surprised to find he has left his hobby of retro computing for good :(

Where are the Amigas? I see nothing

Actually that sort of stuff is quite resilient. I know this 1st hand as my place was flooded a few months back and a lot of my stuff was submerged. Next to nothing was lost after things had some time to dry out. It'll take a bit of time for him to clean his gear, but Id be willing to bet that a reasonable portion is salvagable.

Hose it all off, it'll be good as new.

The only things wrecked would be things made of paper.

Those game and watch devices are toast.
Is that a bunch of external hard drives stacked up in one picture?

I keep a lot of my stuff in plastic storage bins. If I was going to be flooded I could seal the bins with duct tape and stack them up high somewhere.

its not like he is going to be able to bring this stuff into the afterlife either, I think most collectors sometime forget that.

Having grown up on the NSW Far North Coast, QLD was always a presence.  Sydney was on the TV but whenever we needed to shop we headed to the Gold Coast.  We went to Syndey maybe once a year and yet that was what we somehow identified with.

The road to Gold Coast was formidable, full of trucks and the only overtaking point had a speed camera in the middle of it.  I wonder now that it is dual carriageway whether it feels so in modern kids minds?

Each State has it's good an bad.  I know Victorians that fly to QLD because they don't want to drive to through NSW.

True enough, but a person would have to be pretty morbid or overtly religious (they have parallels actually, but that's a bit off topic :)) if theyre focusing on death while trying to enjoy hobbies in life  :)

Maybe he should pick RC boats as his next hobby?

if toasted there is always pepole that are looking for spare parts, so not all is 100% lost here.. and as told before if he try the stuff it may also be working at least the game cardridges, gamecds, game controllers etc.

Hard to have sympathy if he survived. After all, that crao's just old hardware. He's lucky to be alive.

What a horror, it is sickening to look at those pictures. I hope it wasn't The Last Gamer (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLastGamertube).

I cant subscribe to that train of thought. Just because he's lucky to survive (which I agree is the most important thing) doesnt mean everythings ok in the world. The poor guy has had his world turned upside down and has lost a lot of what is dear to him, not to mention the value of his collection. Collectables can be valuable and I'd be just as sympathetic if he collected tea spoons.

Right. Life and health are most important, but losing a unique collection that probably took a lifetime to build is sad to see. Chances are his home and the rest of the contents are also a total loss.

Given a rinse the hardware should be okay once dried.

Shame about all the packaged games, magazines and books though. And things with batteries.

Sometimes you can't account for nature just being ... natural! And you can't live your life in a waterproof, tornado-proof, PC-proof bunker!

"It is easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than it is for a wealthy man to enter the Kingdom of God"

Frankly I'd give up everything I own for just one more day than my allotted time on Earth. But then I'm not very materialistic.
And again, what is the death toll from this so far?
Those (and their loved ones) are the ones that have my sympathy.

I guess we differ there. I have sympathy for everyone affected. And I dont think it's about being materialistic, joy comes from different places, and this guy obviously got joy from his hobby. Personally I'd rather live a short happy life than a drawn out one stripped of joy. Luckily for this guy however he still gets to do both.

Yeah all the flooding in Qld has been on the news here in the states, everyone at work ask me is that where I am from ... I have to explain how far Towoomba, Qld is from Sydney, NSW and a have gotten a few "Is Australia that big?" responses ... "Yes" i say, "Qld is 715,000 sq miles".

But poor guy I really feel for him and everyone affected by the floods, atleast he survived and could start over if need be (If the cleaning fails).

Maybe its age, or the painful or bad things that have happened in my life, but I'd take it all, anyway I could get it, every last second and be grateful for it. You'd be surprised by a person's capacity for pain and sorrow and how in the end you still look back on it happy.

why was man born to suffer and die? Why not?

Really not the place for it, but trust me, Ive had more than my fair share of pain and sorrow in my life. My father was (literally) a homicidal lunatic and Ive seen him carry out his actions on family with my own 2 eyes. I was tortured for the first 13 years of my life until I escaped, although ended back in his clutches more than a few times. I could fill more than a few books with my lifes adventures, my father only being one aspect of some of my misfortunes. Life goes on, and I hold no grudges, but Im not of the belief it's something to cling onto at all cost and I maintain that I'd rather have a short enjoyable life than hanging around for the sake of it.... without joy, there's nothing.

I wont elaborate on any of the more horrific details, but thought I should touch on a few things Ive had to deal with, as anyone can write "I've had it tough too" (and believe that its true,.. everyone has what they consider bad relative to what theyve experienced).
I had some minor surgery today (kinda exciting in a weird way :)) so I hope the anaesthetic hasnt sent me too loopy that my judgement is jaded in deciding to touch on why I believe what I believe. I guess I can delete or edit the post when Im more clear headed if need be at least.

It can all be collected again given your insurance pays for it, but that is highly unlikely in natural disasters.

But if you knew a flood was coming or possible I would store this somewhere else safe.
