I never really got into Cannon Fodder as such but the music score was pretty cool
Good Luck to them but then I already have a pile of around 25 games for the 360 I haven't even opened yet (I always buy the games when there on special)
-
I used to do that with Gamecube games. After six years, half of them are still in the shrinkwrap. ;LOL;

Place your bets now as to how badly they'll screw this up :(
-
I see your bet and raise 10.

Having a story is the first bad sign ;)
Might be fun, but if they are developing for the 360, there's almost 0 chance of a linux port, so F 'em.
-
TBH I don't know how they could possibly improve on the original. Here's hoping it doesn't end up with pointless 3D graphics and 27 buttons to control it.

Especially as they seem to totally gone away from the fact that the originals despite being games were a comment on the realities of war.
The story on that site seems to be your usual tripe
-
Hmmm... Can't say I hold out too much hope for this being decent. Although, I don't have a problem with games switching to a 3D engine, provided it's done properly
For example, Populous: The Beginning is an excellent, updated and 3D version of Populous, whereas Worms 3D is tripe.

I will be in the fair city of Dublin over the weekend :)

Ah, excellent :) Hope you have fun! What's the occasion?
I might be out this weekend myself, who knows, we might bump into each other in a pub somewhere ;)

ITs my mates 40th, his missus 30th and his missus sisters boyfriends ( who is from dublin ) 40th
confused ? :)
-
Hehe, what matters is there are plenty of birthdays to celebrate :D Enjoy!

@Daedelus
Agreed, lots of games add 3D for the sake of it and it adds nothing to enhance the gameplay. Worms 3D and that awful PacMan 3D on the XBox spring to mind.

Actually Worms 3D was fun and the 3D aspect did add to the gameplay. Just my $0.02 :)
-
I agree. As much as its was not a good as originals. Playing Worms3D on the gamecube was fun and did bring something to the game as you had now think in 3d so made it more of a challenge
-
Okay, maybe tripe was a strong word, but you get the point :) It wasn't a terrible game, but it never had any of the charm, fun or addiction for me as the 2D versions. SWOS is another one that lost an awful lot in the transition to 3D...
-
I don't even know if I should say it, but....I actually consider Sensible Soccer 2006 more fun than any of the original games....
Now where the heck is my flamesuit...

I agree... Worms 3D was more challenging, and honestly, probably a little more skill-based/less random. And, technology-wise it pulled it off very well. But it completely lost its fun and charm. It completely missed the spirit that made Worms. I played it a couple times, shelved it, and have tried to block it from my memory ever since.
... and I fear GFI is going to do the same thing to Cannon Fodder. There's no reason an XBLA version for XBox couldn't be great. But I don't see anything in GFI's past projects that gives a shred of hope it'll be anything other than a complete affront to gaming history.
Go ahead and check out their website. "Little Red Riding Cap"?!? "Diamon Jones"?!?! A FREAKIN MY LITTLE PONY RIPOFF GAME? A CATZ RIPOFF GAME?! The originals of those were nightmares that were released straight to the bargain bin. Who in their right mind would do knock-off titles of those!?
Was I just trolled?
-
Hmm. No music by Richard Joseph. No Amiga version. Most likely a 3D-engine that will spoil the charm of the game (anyone tried settlers 10th anniversary?).. I doubt I will like this game much! Would be cool if they paid some people to do an Amiga version, just for publicity.. (hint, hint) or open up the license just for 'us' :)

woh!!! :)

As expected - crap 3D graphics, annoying isometric view, and overcomplicated gameplay. I'll pass on this one.

I agree, as expected the 3D isometric view looks crap. But then again, no one actually thought it would be any good, did they?
Anyway, I'm off to play the original... :D
-
my only hope is to be able to play it with friends ! thats the only missing thing in cannon fodder and so far, no clone, if any, was intended to played by at least 2-players !
Oh man, a 2-players cannon fodder !!!! that would have been great fun !

Even putting 3D-isometric-annoyingness aside, the graphics look incredibly dated. It looks like a game from the late 90s.

Yeah, a 2 player option I about the only thing a new version could bring. I remember me and my best mate fighting over who got the next turn on Cannon Fodder ;)

I think we`re being a little harsh with this one. No way the graphics are late 90s. You could say early 2000s ( :-) ). As much as I loved playing the original on my Amiga 500, this could deliver some sales if it`s not too expensive!!

Just thought I would heads up here, that there is an iphone game called "grunts", which seems to be a more faithful cannon fodder clone :)

Grunts is pretty good and fairly Cannon-Fodder like, but for some reason it didn't grab me in the same way as CF. Maybe I'll give it another go :)
