Title: prism2.device and Miami Dx can work...
Post by: TheGoose on January 18, 2011, 04:30:43 PM
Nearly got my WiFi card working in my A1200T. I'm having a problem with the computer freezing up when I try to connect the stack.

I think I read somewhere there is a conflict with prism2.device and Subway, maybe on the English board? Not sure. I have a Subway in the machine, but it not started automatically on boot up. I have to trigger the Posiden software.

Any thoughts on prism2.device and Miami, ?? appreciated.

(could go either in software or hardware forums, don't know yet...)

prism2.device and Miami DX works just fine. Have been using it for a couple of years on my A1200T setup.

Right, but I'm after info about why it is hanging my system up...

Ok, I'm not alone at least, this sounds very much like my "freeze":

But there was no solution there so I'll keep going...

I have a Subway in my A1200, and it doesn't seem to interfere with my wireless cards. The user in the thread you linked concluded that it was a hardware fault.

There is no issue with Subway and prism2.device since I have been using those 2 (Subway+prism2.device) under Genesis in OS3.9 and under AmiTCP in OS3.1 and worked with no issue.

Do you have CardReset (http://aminet.net/util/boot/CardReset.lha) and CardPatch (http://aminet.net/util/boot/CardPatch.lha) in your Startup-Sequence?

Worked on it last night, yes I do have those and they work with the card fine. Every time I put in prism2.device and click 'Continue' or 'Online' , Miami it just freezes the whole machine.

But, one session it behaved normal and I was able to use the 'query device' option and got the MAC address and everything. Saved the config.

Really frustrating, no error, no nothing, just doesn't work.

Don't know if it would make any difference, but did you throw the prism2 setup string with your WiFi network SID and key into your startup sequence?

I have done that, and wonder if my SetPrism2Defaults is causing trouble?

Then sometimes I comment it out, and do it from CLI for trial and error purposes. I just hope the 12 bucks one coming works better.

I know the PCMCIA slot is okay, I have used it with a wired ethernet card many times with cnet.device.

Actually, this is ringing a bell, the very first card I got was a Netgear, I believe, and it did the same thing on my A1200.  I tested it in a PC laptop and it didn't work there either, so I figured the card was broken.

Well it's working! The old card I was using was crap, and is now safe and sound in cat little box. I had to use WEP and downgrade the wireless to just b/g and then it all came to life. It looks like hell but the connection is pretty zippy. Only thing I had on the machine was Aweb SE.

But hell it's a wireless Amiga! I am using a Orinoco Gold 802.11b Wireless PC Card I got for $12.00 off of Amazon!
