For the piece of software #2, we can find "AMIGA"
2. The SCA virus
In 1987, the SCA virus was spreading like wildfire through the Commodore Amiga community. It had been created by a group called the Swiss Cracking Association (hence the name) and was transmitted by sharing and swapping floppy disks.

Don't get me started about it, not something to be proud of :angryfire:

I'm not too sure how well thought out their list was. They include Visual Basic and not C?
Without C their list of software would almost be empty.
-
except for phototshop, I've not used or been affected by anything on that list.
and frankly, I use GIMP, IFX and AfterEffects WAY more often than Photoshop.

iTunes?! Really? That seems absurd to me. The Hardware I'll buy that as a force for change, but iTunes is godawful. I rank it up there with SonicStage.
-
I agree with Karlos:
Itunes and Mathematica? It seems to me this list was made in a rush to finish an article.

iTunes is the RealPlayer of the 2000's.
IOW, shit.

:roflmao:
Truesay though.

Actual Visual Basic should be #1 if you ask me.
Programming for the masses, not the classes.
Amiga, no - every platforms needs something so simple and effective and easy to use.
I would love to see an Amiga compiler that could look at a .net solution(source) and compile and Amiga executable. Visual Studio's IDE is unbeatable.

I think it was the first s/w I deleted from my new lappy and put a junk filter into my Thunderbird.

I'm not a huge fan of VB, but I can understand and respect its appeal. I vacillate between IDEs like I do Linux distributions. Right now I'm using Eclipse for my Java programming. Sometimes I like a "helpful" ide... Sometimes I just like logging into a tty and banging out some code in vim :D

I was literally counting the posts for your reply to this one :)
Programming for the masses of people that only use Windows, that is. And before you even mention "mono" on linux, anybody using it is almost certainly familiar with other programming languages already and if experience is any measure, are more interested in C#.

Seems a bit random, but any list like this is going to be.
I'd consider stuff like WordPerfect, C, Winamp (almost everybody used this when mp3s were becoming a big deal).
And hell, linux / android ?
