Right... time to clear some things up here, though firstly I'd just like to say wish I'd thought up that thread (Directly at Franko...) it's one of the more bizzare and highly amusing things I've come across on this crazy world of the internet (just the way I like things)... :)
I have always said I wasn't sure if the internet was the thing for me and how long I would continue to use It for I was never sure. The deletion of my posts were not done in a "hissy fit" as Fishy_Fiz seems to think, or being a "drama queen" as Duce implies by claiming that he's been "reading for a week now about how a guy might be leaving A.org and the internet altogether".
If you had read the post and taken into account my style of posting properly you would see that if someone asks me a question I reply with an honest answer, in this case my answer was just simply responding to a question in regard to how long I might stay around on the internet, nothing more nothing less, just a simple honest answer... :)
Amiga.org or the internet isn't going to fall apart just because I decide to stop using it so why on earth do you (Duce) think this is reprehensible I just don't get it... :(
My reasons for leaving (though I don't really have to give any) are quite simple in recent weeks I just wasn't finding the internet fun or interesting any more and to me if something in life is no longer fun or interesting then I quite simply move on to something that is. I had asked Karlos about how to delete my account and found out that this can't be done, so I began to delete my personal details myself and thought it would be best to also delete anything I had written here just in case someone decided to use things I had written to say things about me or use in the future where I would no longer be in a position to respond to them or to have friends or family tell me someone had said this or that about me... :)
While I now realise this was quite futile and stopped deleting my posts and realise now that this would spoil the threads for others, I shall do my best to repair these threads before I leave as I write most of the stuff offline and then post it, it shouldn't be too difficult to restore the threads... :)
I think by now most of you who read any of the stuff I write would have known that I don't care what someone has to say about me, you could call me every name under the sun and I wouldn't be offended, you would simply get a reply back in kind. The only thing that bugged me recently was someone calling me a liar, while not offended as such by this I just thought well I wouldn't put up with that in real life so why should I put up with it here... :)
That and as I say not finding the internet as much fun or interesting anymore I decided quite simply to go back to the way things were before with the net having no part in my life and so have begun to remove all things associated with me and the net (email accounts, forums, online banking etc...)
I was and still am intending to PM everyone on my friends list here just to say thank you for the fun and for putting up with a crackpot like me.... :)
To all the other members here whom I have interacted with directly on the forums or on my own site and those whom have found my posts interesting or hopefully amusing, I would just like to take this opportunity to say thank you all for the interesting topics/debates & advice you have given me and of course the the fun and laughter and to those who have posted with your kind words I say thank you they are genuinely appreciated... :)
To Everyone Here On Amiga.org... :)
Wishing ye awe ra very best... :drink:

Without the internet how are you going to stay up to date with the Amiga community? There aren't exactly many Amiga communties in your part of the world are there
Being an Amigan without access to a forum like A.org seems like a lonely hobby to me. Noone to share your joy with :(
Anyway best of luck and i hope you don't regret it too much :)
-
Still, I wouldn't mind going back to the time before the Internet. Truth be told, I prefer the good old BBS world to the internet these day. I miss the fact that at that time your peer were mostly local. Now, everything and everyone is so remote, so impersonal.
I have presently 3 Amiga that I can't use because I lack a KS + WB disk set. I bought a few from people here and on AmiBay and Evilbay, and I'm still waiting for them to arrive. In the good old day, I would have logged on a few local BBS, set up a meeting and got my set of floppy in about 4 hours top and a short drive to meet the other party.
And last I checked, beside the near instant gratification of the internet in regard to amiga.org post, nothing that is done here couldn't be done, albeit more slowly via a good old BBS + Fido.
Ah, the good old day... And get off my lawn :)
-
I wish you the best of luck.
-
Best of luck, Franko. You are quite a character.
-
he will be back, i give him a month... living without the internet in 2011 are impossible.
-
If your giving stuff away can i have your 2000+ posts? :)

Plenty of peoples on this planet don't have access to the Internet and they are doing just fine, and I'm not talking about 3rd world country either. The internet is a luxury not a necessary component to life.
-
Franko my man I'll just say "see you later mate" cause I know you'll be back to the net to check on the Amiga scene or get some info for yer miggies....
just remember WE all 'came back to the Amiga' and that's why the Amiga scene still exists today:afro:
-
I wish I could get rid of my internet.

That's not exactly true, some of us never left.
@Franko
(edit: I retracted what was here beforehand as it wasn't necessary)
-
internet does make it a lot easier to get a hold of amiga stuff :)
Ive been trying to limit my time spent online though. Its easy to piss away an entire day off,and I always feel like it was wasted. If I am playing a game or something, at least it feels a bit more constructive

Hi,
Hey good knowing you, you crazy old Scott.
Don't let anyone in the world get your Irish up, and watch out for crazy people like me.
May you have the best of luck, and may your whiskey never run sour, and may your scotch never go dry.
Thank you for the time that you gave us, it is one of the most precious things you can give a person.

So long, Franko. If you ever decide to visit the Internet again you'll always be welcome at amiga.org :)
Oh, and I'll just put this here (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=1704) ;)

It may not be a necessity, but it is a class A drug... ;)

Yup, and I was clean for months before I started using again :(
-
Damned internet. I'll stop procrastinating tomorrow, I promise.
-
I guess we've just given up on the concept of using the Coffee House for non Amiga-related topics. Kinda makes it moot I suppose.

No, it's native Glaswegian rendered in latin script.

Actually, I left this thread where it was for a while so that it would get some visibility, what with all the questions regarding Franko's decision to leave.
Now, it is time to move it to CH/General...
-
Just to add, the rumours that I bribed Franko with a sizeable quantity of Buckfast Abbey and Tunnock's Tea Cakes in order to protect my top poster position are entirely without foundation...

While it's a shame Franko has decided to leave, it does mean the top posters are back in the game ;)

Yeah, his "post velocity"* was unbelievable. Higher even than Speel's when he first appeared.
*lol, agile posting?
-
Good luck to you Franko if you really don't come back mate :pint:
I did suggest to him in a PM that he tried some relaxing fishing ;)

@Karlos
What's the formula for calculating post velocity? Is it as simple as N/T, where N=number of posts and T=time, or are there some more complex variable interactions I'm overlooking?
-
N/T where T is time between first and last post made will suffice as a metric for now :)
-
I suppose the real complexity is embedded within N, which will be impacted upon by all kinds of other variables (time available, personal interests, relevance of posts to personal interests, etc. etc. etc.........)
-
That complexity is actually present in N/T, just for a smaller interval of T. Taken to the limit, then, what you actually need to do is graph the rate of change of post velocity, ie, post acceleration, over time. A simplification of which is just to show posts per day (or other unit T) for all the full time they were active...

@Karlos
You're rather incredibly clever.

Ahhh, so the barking dog didn't muck up the telephone interview then? ;)

Nope, but the interview tomorrow is for a different company anyway. I'm told I made the shortlist for the other one but I haven't been given a date for a face-to-face interview yet.
-
Well best of luck mate!

I dont care about local languages, the part "show or joke" is for the situation generated all this time.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean... The irony in this statement has not escaped my attention.

Risperidone is often used to lessen the symptoms of Aspergers I believe. ;)

Don't know if you will read this Franko, but I must say it's sad to see you leave. You are one of the most interesting Amiga users I have encountered, and I really love your sense of humor man :)
My reasons for leaving (though I don't really have to give any) are quite simple in recent weeks I just wasn't finding the internet fun or interesting any more and to me if something in life is no longer fun or interesting then I quite simply move on to something that is.
Or you could take a break from what's no longer fun, and then maybe go back to it later in order to see if you have changed your mind. But I do understand why you want to go back to how things were, because I also remember how things was for me before I got connected to the net, I was much more creative with my Amiga back then.
But still you must admit that there are some positive things regarding the net, like downloading new Amiga programs & updates for old ones and getting info about what's happening in the Amiga world.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck :)
-
I really love your sense of humor man :)
So do I :) Just look at the questions that greet you at his website........

I think he should have just taken a break as he had practically lived here for 6 months :)
-
Set up a BBS, mate! :D
Also, good luck!

When I saw this message I thought. "Oh no Franko has up and joined the Foreign Legion!"

How about this...
Whenever you see a CUSA thread on the homepage, bump your favorite post so that the CUSA one falls off. It only takes 10 individual bumps :)
This one is my favorite :)
