Franko,
I've just got up for a coffee at 3am and can see that you have been deleting your posts since I went to bed mate :(
I know you have had someone giving you hassle on here, but I think I would be correct in saying that nearly everyone else considers you to be a valued member and really likes having you around :)
I'll be returning in the morning and hope to see you back at your post, sir :)
:drink:
-
ya we need more nuts..err Amigans like Franko around;)
-
Well, I don't know about "valued member" so much as "amusing crazy Scottish guy," but yeah.
-
Well, I don't know about "valued member" so much as "amusing crazy Scottish guy," but yeah.
Isn't that redundant?
Besides, AO is all fruits and nuts.
-
In the past, when similar actions have tempted me, I've always reconsidered because of the damage to thread continuity that would result.
I would hope Franko would re-consider this scorched Earth policy. It damages the readability of threads and since he cannot delete quotes of his posts, it point to the source of the problem.
-
Franko is awesome.. damnit this is internet here.. relax people.. you guys act like internet is real life or somethin..
-
Help us Franko, you're our only hope!

Crushing pearls of wisdom into sand! Like Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni taking a cutlass to his masterpieces, but not quite as bad as Van Gogh and the ear!

I'm sorry i'm completely lost. Why is Franko deleting his posts? And why is someone harrassing him?
He deleted his thread on large hds on a floppy disk. Why? it was a good idea

cause some cockpump was trolling him and being a tool, so now Franko looks like he may be done and leaving.
I SAY WE LYNCH THE OTHER GUY
-
Franko you keep me coming back, most of your post are what I read, and also I want to be Darth Amiga Vadar in this strange Amiga Star wars thing going on, O yeah and Franko Fu*k em we need you here.
-
Hi,
Darn It,
I leave for a couple of days and ya all run Franko off,
Man,
Not enough real Amiga people the way it is, and the buffoon that probably ran him off is probably a MAC user. They are the only ones that are ignorant enough to do it.
Couldn't of been a PC user because they are too busy trying to keep their machines going.
Hey Franko, if you are looking at this then look, and read, you gonna let some idiot run you off one of your favorite things. By the way, OS4 just won't work on my machine for some reason. I don't know sort of gave up on the Amiga 1200 for now, but the good news is my freind gave me just about 90% of the programs ever made for the Amiga. Been playing them, sort of got lost back in the old days of real computing. The thing that really torques me off is he gave me Dpaint V but the code is missing. One of the programs I really wanted to see run and I have it it installed on the Amiga, just can't use it, DARN YOU EA.

I'm very sorry to read that Franko is leaving or has left. For such a small community, Amiga.org has an unusually high troll ratio compared to other sites that I'm on.
I really enjoyed Franko's posts and his videos on using his Amiga was really great.
There are only a few people on the 'net that I would really enjoy buying a drink and talking technology and Franko was one of them.
-P
-
Hi, again
You know what really gets me mad,
Some low life gets on here and runs off Franko, and he was just about ready to crack and tell me the secret of what Scotts really wear under their kilts!!!
You guys aren't funny anymore
smerf
-
Who is the Numnut??? i have email him and pm him i hope he comes back. I was one of the people he was helping and he knows so much.. i want to belt the guy....
-
erm... has Franko actually left? If you read the first post of this thread you will see we have maybe gone over the top?
-
Well he deleted most of his posts so I guess he has had enough.
Probably a good time to point out to the mods here we need a short time limit for editing privileges to prevent threads being ruined when people do this.
-
I miss Franko already :(
Who did what though ? I can find some of his deleted posts, but not what upset him.
Bring back Franko !!
-
he did the same with his website http://www.commodorescotland.com as well. He's closed it down
-
What happened then?
I thought Franko was thick skinned and wouldn't leave here
-
The Scots aren't that easily chased off.
I'msure he will be back after the traditional meal of haggis and deep fried mars bar washed down with scotch in iron bru.
-
I liked Franko as much as the next guy, but quit being such a girl over one guy who was acting like a tosser. We were all obviously in your corner during the stupidity. If that's all it takes to make him sod off then the dress (kilt) is appropriate :P
This is of course assuming it's a reaction to what we all seem to think it is.
-
Whilst I can't disclose specific details of a private message, I can say that as far as I am aware, Franko's decision to leave is not due to any negative exchange with anybody else here or any ill-feelings about the site. It seems he just wants to return to a quieter life without the web.
Now, it's unfortunate that he's decided to erase his contribution here by editing away his own posts (I did suggest that this was rather futile due to quoting and would leave threads in a mess) but users are allowed to edit their posts and so he's totally within his rights to do so.
Suffice to say it's not site policy to delete user accounts (save the odd purge of long-inactive members), so the door remains open if he has a change of heart.
-
I dont buy it myself, mostly due to the deletion of his posts, which suggests more of a hissy fit than a simple decision to call it quits.
Oh well, to each his own as they say.
-
I agree the behaviour doesn't seem reasonable but he came across as perfectly sanguine by PM.
-
Franko is a very nice guy. He has helped me when I was in need, and has answered me when I had a doubt.
I don't want you to go away, Franko!!
-
It's a shame though. While I didnt always agree with him (would be a boring world if everyone thought the same way anyway), he was a bit of a breath of fresh air to the often stale world of amiga forums. I for one, will miss the big girls blouse :)
(joking(sort of)(about the girls blouse, not the missing part))
-
Its a shame he's gone, I'm must admit to being more an amigaworld.net fan, thats where I still post the most but recently because of the amount of interesting topics and lighter, funnier attitudes around here, I did start posting on here more, and I think it was down to Franko, it rear today to see someone new to the whole net thing and into Amiga as well, and he did seem to get really into it, his 2,000+ posts proves that and his weird but wonderful web site. I'm surprised hes just deleted so many posts and closed his web site with out no word why, but what ever the reason I hope he ok and continues to enjoy his Amiga! Where every your are Franko, even though your time was short on here you will be remember as a true AmigaN! After all not many users would get a 3 page thread about there where they disappeared.
PS: Any one read his final Blog, on the 28-12-10
A wee tribute to the Amiga...
The Amiga is the best computer to me
always has and always will be,
It may be old and past it to some
but the Amiga to me is still number one,
25 years of pleasure and joy
I have got from this amazing "toy",
The world of computing may have moved on
but in reality the Amiga it still lives on,
I say this with feeling I say this with heart,
don't diss the Amiga or tear it apart,
At the end of day in whichever manner you choose
use Amiga with pride in all that you do,
To the Amiga Community I have but one plea
it is quite simply let the old girl be,
We can talk about the future we can talk about the past
at the end of day the Amiga will outlast
all that came after or is still yet to come
will never take away what the Amiga has done.
So I say to all Amigans lets no take sides
just enjoy what we have and talk about her with pride.
By Franko...:drink:

(Just found this thread).
Maybe not (mainly because Jesus didn't exist), but when I needed some help he popped a few DVDs of shareware into an envelope and mailed them too me from Scotland and refused to even let me send him the postage costs via PayPal.
He was a great guy with a good sense of humour and was genuinely interested in helping others (like many other people here). It is always a shame to lose someone like that. I hope he comes back.
-
Can understand the simpler life option. Hope everything is okay healthwise Franko. Cheers, all the best, and hope to see you soon.
I will miss you.

You need to study your history better...

Meh...Good riddance to bad rubbish...

Your response clearly shows you haven't. From the Roman Historian Tacitus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacitus_on_Christ#Historical_Jesus):Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite punishments on a class hated for their disgraceful acts, called Chrestians by the populace. Christ, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty [i.e., Crucifixtion] during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular.
Jesus very likely existed. It's whether or not he's actually the Son of God that is up for debate.
-
The amount of drama queening that goes on in these forums is atrocious, lol. For the record, I've never had any ill feelings towards Franko, but to me he's just another guy dedicated to the Amiga in an almost religious form, and there's lots of said types here on A.org. I respect him for his faith in the platform, even if I know in my gut aspirations of Amiga coming back from the dead is about as likely as Jay Miner coming back from the grave is.
1 - if Franko quit the forums due to people harassing him via PM's, he should have dealt with that via moderators. If that was the case, it's unacceptable. Same goes for if persons were contacting him off the forums and harassing him based on his posts on A.org.
2 - he's never, ever - been shy of stating his opinions in rather blunt manners, and he's got responses in the exact same fashion as his posts warranted. I've never seen anyone say "quit picking on Franko, he's a saint and never said anything in confrontational tones here"
3 - can't take the heat countering your opinions, get out of the kitchen. Very few people here or elsewhere are seriously waking up each day expecting so see that the Amiga has crushed the PC/Mac market. Being optimistic is fine, but most people are realists, lol. people are entitled to their opinions.
All that being said, after reading for a week about how a guy "might be leaving A.org and the internet altogether", the situation reeks of primadonna drama queening, and that's reprehensibly annoying in any forms. When people post in aggressive ways, they generally get replies in the same tone, and rightly so.
At the end of the day, there are ways to ignore other forums users rather than to pull a "I'm taking my ball and going home, nya nya" move and simply quit, no? it's a shame to see the guy go, if he's left - he's been quite a help to the community here.
Just my 2 bits anyways,
Duce

If I quoted JK Rowlings to you then it doesn't mean Harry Potter existed. You also seem to have some trouble (by your own admission) knowing the difference between "very likely" and "definately". A bit like the Yeti really. :)

Could be winter blues, I can get pretty agitated in winter. Maybe he will be back in the summer.

Waaaaiiiiit a minute, Darrin, you want to tell me Harry Potter didn't exist???

This is an example of a thread going awry. The thread is supposed to be about Franko, not Jesus or any other such figures. Stay on topic or start a new thread elsewhere. A good New Year's resolution, perhaps?

I know. I was concerned when I interjected. However, I felt it an important point to make. I will make one last point and then I'm done.

You're original assertion:Maybe not (mainly because Jesus didn't exist),
To which I responded that you need to check your history. That wasn't an assertion that he did exist. It was an assertion that if you understood history, you couldn't blanketly state he didn't exist.
JK Rowlings and Gaius Publius Tacitus are two very different persons with two very different agendas and has nothing to do with the point I was trying to impress upon you.

Yep, unlike Dr Who who IS real.

Well we have his police record on his rather dodgy habbit of sleeping with little girls...

It is about Franko and whether or not he actually exists. I have an envelope with his handwriting which could be the equivalent of the Turin Shroud! However, I refuse to allow anybody to carbon date even a square millimeter of this “holy relic” for fear that it might prove that it is an early 2011 fake and not a genuine 2010 original! He has even left an image of himself in the top corner and he looks surprisingly like Queen Elizabeth II.

True, but we can't actually prove that Greys and Bogymen don't exist either and there are "historic" documents (granted, made by rather iffy people) claiming that they do.
I myself saw a gnome riding a moped when I was alone on a dark road at 4am and in the process of falling asleep at the wheel.
-
That's too bad.
Does anyone know if Franko had a Bipolar disorder?
The whole thing seems very weird. I do hope he returns.
-
mainly because Jesus didn't exist
I promised myself that I wouldn't reply to this but I saw some of the other replies and these kinds of posts make me sad for our society.
The Internet -which has given a voice to millions for many good causes- has also allowed us -as a society- to confuse the line between opinion and fact. Simply posting something like 'Jesus never existed' or 'Bigfoot is real' requires nothing from the poster, no empirical evidence or even shred of evidence to support your statement.
You can to say it because you feel it and people accept it as fact. Well, thankfully not everyone...
As university professor -as many professions should and do- you can't blindly make a statement without providing honest, empirical evidence to support your statement.
When I see posts like 'Jesus never existed' I wonder how that is possible in 2011? Whats next? Copernicus was wrong and the Sun revolves around the Earth? The Holocaust was a lie? Julius Caesar never existed?
Standing in the shadow of hundreds of years of empirical research by thousands of dedicated historical researchers can be dismissed with a simple statement of 'Jesus never existed'. And I'll be considered the odd ball or troll because of my reply to him...
As long as I don't have to provide a shred of empirical evidence, I believe that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created the Amiga.
Jesus of Nazareth is probably one of the most proven historical figures in ancient history. Was he God? The son of God? A prophet? Did he raise people from the dead? That is an entire different subject and will most likely end in an opinion.
When Ancient Historical Researchers look to prove or disprove a person in history they look at hundreds if not thousands of documents and records (historical method) from that time period that would substantiate a conclusion one way or the other.
And before I read another sentence involving Bigfoot or the Yeti, they both fail the Historical Method test.
Look, I'm not trying to crucify Darrin (no pun intended) but it does bother me that as a society people post statements like this without thinking it through. I believe everyone in the world has a right to Freedom of Speech but that comes with a great deal of responsibility.
If I stated in a post that I believe the Earth is flat, that Julius Caesar is a myth, or that the Sun revolved around the Earth, many here would flame me for being ignorant of the facts.
If we don't hold everyone accountable for their statements then what are we teaching the next generation?
-P
-
The problem you have with Jesus is that there isn't any record of him at the time of his life. All the text referencing him were written at least 70 years after his death at the earliest and by third party account.
Keep in mind that the gospel are ACCORDING to and not WRITTEN by the apostles. Josephus wrote about CHRISTIAN also from third party account. The Romans didn't write anything about Jesus in any of their official correspondence. There is only mention of a christian sect but no mention of Jesus.
Also the Bible was written around 324 by the catholic to push their agenda and impose their flavor of Christianity over the other christian sect mostly the Aryans & the Cathar who didn't recognised the divinity of Jesus.
Jesus of Nazareth looks more like a literary invention to teach morals and religion which can be a good thing if he is used as such. But instead he became a reason to torture and kill millions of people over the years in religious war. A real shame.

~Two billion people on this planet believe in the existence of and virgin birth of Jesus son of Mary (Peace be upon them both) and love him as they love their own father, based on nothing more than the word of one man.
Muhammad son of Abdullah (Peace be upon him and his pure progeny).
I am one of them.

Gentlemen?
As someone as previously suggested, please move this particular discussion somewhere else. :) As the person who original broached this topic, I only intended to make a quick point rather than let it fall into debate. If you wanna open a discussion on it, I'll gladly join any and all there to discuss the issues.
Two cents.
-
What?? Franko has gone???
What a bloody shame. What made him want to do that? What a shame.

I agree. This has got far too serious. Time for us to all reach for our copies of Life of Brian and The Holy Grail and sit down for a few beers. :-)

Franko PLEASE we need you to come back to this thread at least just to steer it away from the existence of Christ:lol:
-
The temptation of Franko is detailed in the Canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. It is also found in Aramaic Matthew. According to these texts, after being baptized, Franko fasted for forty days and nights in the desert. During this time, the DoomMaster appeared to Franko and tempted him. Franko having refused each temptation, the DoomMaster departed and angels came and brought nourishment to Franko.
In Luke's and Matthew's accounts, the DoomMaster tempts Franko to:
-Make Amigas out of stones to relieve his own boredom
-Free himself from a pinnacle by jumping and relying on OS3.9 to break his fall. The narrative of both Luke and Matthew has the DoomMaster quote Psalm 91:11-12 to show that Jay Miner had promised this assistance, although the DoomMaster implies that the passage may be used to justify presumptuous acts, while the Psalm only promises that Jay Miner will deliver those who trust and abide in Him.
-Worship the DoomMaster in return for all the Amigas in the world. Luke has the DoomMaster explicitly claim this authority had previously been handed to himself, the DoomMaster.
Give him 40 days!

LOL.
That was a misprint, due to a bad translation by the monks. It was after a CURRY, Franko FARTED for 40 days and 40 nights so his girlfriend sent him into the SPARE ROOM.

I consider myself fairly up to date with what is happening on a.org, this Franko dude, anyone can tell what kind of avatar he had and what kind of threads he made so I can find out the genius of him?
-
Well I'll damned! I vanish for a few days, and come back to this? You could say my very existence here is due to Franko.
Even here there are very few of us hard core classic Amiga users. We can ill afford to lost one. Specially one so vocal.

whoa... hawd ra bus...
Ah'm not deed yet... (least I don't think so... pokes meself in the eye... OUCH... nope definitely still alive... :))
Good gawd... I went to visit me sister today and got back only to read my own obituary column here on the org...
What's going on !!! everything from me having a hissy fit, the masses stoating their heeds off the wailing wall, candlelight vigils being held to me being compared to the second coming of jesus christ ....
(just thought I'd keep the religious stuff going, always good for an argument that one... ;))
Did one of you lot break in while I was gone and raid me medicine cabinet...
I've received more PMs and emails in one day than I have my entire 6 months on the net, (gonna take me quite a wee while to reply to them all so please be patient... :))
Anyway what's this thread all about ??? has something happened while I was away, did they reopen the original Amiga factory and right now the little elves are hard at work producing new golden Amigas... :)
Me's a wee bit confused here, gonna have a nice cuppa a quick ciggie and take me meds (if there's any left) while I try to figure this all out... :)
(PS:Who the Fcuk is this Franko geezer you all speak of, I've never spoke to him meself sounds like a right bamstick if you ask me.. ;))

Franko has said all along that he'll probably bin the internet on a whim.
He only recently started using it, and while he said it was useful, I got the impression he could take or leave it.
I see he's posted on this thread, so I'll just add that I too like his posts. He's a welcome breath of fresh air and very knowledgable on Amiga. As a fellow Scot too, it's nice to read some Scottish vernacular on a global site.
Haste ye back Franko, dinnae be a stranger!
