well the Alladin forum threads don't show up on the main page for some reason so hopefully this gets some attention
-
I wouldn't mind hearing about an updated version too. I know there is only one programmer working on it so it will take some time, but it would be nice to have a new version.
The latest classic Amiga version runs great and never crashes even on newer versions of Workbench and RTG screens. The only thing I'd like to see improved is the ability to control the aspect in the "layout" tool. It seems that Aladdin was ideally designed for the Amiga's native screenmode "non square" pixels. When using square pixel RTG screens, things are squashed vertically somewhat.....i.e. start up Aladdin 4d and use the Make Arc tool to create a 360 degree arc (a perfect circle). If you are using an RTG screen the circle will be squashed vertically slightly (therefore will appear eliptical). If you switch to a Native chipset screen (i.e. NTSC laced) the circle will look proper (no distortion).
There is an aspect setting which should fix this but it doesn't actually seem to do anything in the layout mode.
This is the only slight niggle I have with what otherwise is a great and well written application.
Note: the aspect distortion mentioned above is only apparent in the "layout" view....the actual rendered result looks fine (and there is also an aspect setting for the rendered output that will allow you to control the pixel ratio and set things to your liking - you can even make it match the slight vertical squashing of the layout screen if you want a perfect WYSIWYG setup).
-
Just have to say there is no such thing as "a perfect circle" :)

BUMP..c'mon...something

WoW!..still no comments at all here ??
perhaps if people that already pre-ordered last year complain about wanting their money back it would be a differnt story

Development is ongoing but is not complete yet for version 6.0.

I would love to give you a screenshot but DiscreetFX Labs is still developing it. Amiga OS 4.x version is not far enough along yet for a sexy interface pic.
-
@ Pyromania
ok, can you then please give us a brief update of where the status of v6 for AmigaOS is at this point of time? (We already know from back in January that over 3000+ hours has been put into the code so surely there must be something that can be added to that statement now...& hopefully not that here has been 3001 hours now spent etc.)
-
Updated info when available will be posted here.
http://aladdin4d.blogspot.com/
Another 300000000000000000000000 hours have gone into it since Jan.
Just kidding!
The release pace is not exciting for me either but still lots of work for DiscreetFX Labs to do before it's ready.
-
ok so we got a screenshot yet ??
-
well i just heard a rumour that Alladin v6 for AmigaOS4.1 will be ready by Christmas THIS YEAR!
seeing that we haven't even seen one screen shot to date I am very suspicious but hopefully DiscreetFX can confirm this here. If no news then I've given up hope and will ask for a refund on my purchase from over 2 years ago !

bumpity bump

bump again:afro:

It will be sooner than you think.

In two more weeks...

Wow, 2 years! I really admire your patience.
Good luck.

It has been so long a wait for Aladdin v6 for the Amiga that I can't even remember if I am due to get it as a free upgrade from the v5 boxed Amiga version I bought, or if I have to buy it as an upgrade?
I think I bought the Amiga v5 version as part of getting v6 in the future, but I might be mistaken. Anyone else remember a promotion for Aladdin v5 for Amiga that included v6 when released? (I hate getting old and forgetting stuff).
-
@ amigadave
Yup technically speaking the 68k version they gave you when you bought v6 is free since they went well over their initial completion date. The promo was they would refund your money but you get to keep v5 for free.
Since I bought v6 to run Alladin under OS4.1 I'll patiently wait longer but this lack of any screenshot going on 3 years is really sad
-
Wasnt there a program called Tornado 3D, that some how build on Imagine and for PPC only?

Site was updated yesterday.

Short: company went bust, OS4 version newer developed, open source never appeared.

However, seems that revival and outsourcing Last Tornado 3D would be far superior to porting last Real3D, Imagine or waiting for Alladin ...

i've been asking for a screenshot on AWN (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=33965&forum=32&start=140&viewmode=flat&order=0#646777) as well for months. the bottom line, i have unfortunately concluded, is that there is no OS4 version whatsoever and never has been. promises follow promises, but by now the time has come to conclude it simply will never happen. look at the latest 'screenshot' from the one and only OS X version: it looks exactly the same as the previous screenshot, which looked like aladdin 4D v5 with a macintosh UI. no apparent feature changes, no nothing. still stringing everyone along.
i honestly don't know why they just don't say, "we don't have an amiga version of aladdin 4D v6 in development yet. if and when we finish the OS X version, and if it sells, we might port it back to OS4 and other amiga NG platforms. in the mean time there is still the excellent aladdin 4D v5 available for sale." and perhaps if they lowered the price to something more reasonable for a a more-than-decade-old piece of software, people might buy a copy.
i've given up at this point. whether others do is, of course, up to them.

We have a surprise coming for you. Not today but very soon.
:)

hehe i just listened to the show and my voicemail was played at the start of the show. So basically DiscreetFX is promising (er telling) us a release in this year..2012..hmmm:nervous:
-
Hope it comes out soon - was something I was looking very forward to buying and using on my SAM.
-
It will be sooner than you think.
you have told us that so many times already.. and it is so long ago..

I, sadly, have to agree. I am a supporter of DiscreetFX and Alladin4d (I bought it and still use it), but I've seen several messages that said version 6 is "Coming very soon" in the past few years. I've gotten to the point I was with Amiga Inc. - I'll believe it when I see it.
I wish DisrcreetFX well, but I won't put any cash down until the software has been demo'd, released, tested and reviewed by third parties.

broken record * BUMP *
-
records still skipping on this thread:p
perhaps we can see a screenshot on any AmigaOS4.1/ MOS/ AROS...

bumpity skip

Gotta be some news by now

Are you trying to proof a point? The dynamic DiscreetFX duo owes money to members of this site, and since that problem was brought up they have completely vanished. Do you really think they're going to give you a status update?
Not to mention that one can either believe whatever they claim (in which case, their statement that the Amiga port would only be tackled once the Mac version is released means that the Amiga port hasn't been started yet) or you can join me in the "at least they're entertaining occasionally" camp and regard all their 'status updates' as the feeble attempt at humour that they really are.
-
Amiga business as usual.

Amiga business as usual.
Please stop using "Amiga" and "business" in the same sentence. It only serves to confuse people.

it depends on how you define "business" in this context :-)

well I was pretty good at proofs with differential equations...Badda bing
ok I guess I'll have to keep my day job now back to the topic....as I paid for a version of Alladin4D for AmigaOS4.x I believe I have a right to ask for a status update since it's years, not months, overdue:insane:
waste of time most likely but it bothers me that I could have used that money to donate to REAL Amiga projects/bounties:rant: or perhaps they might redeem themselves and deliver the goods one day:juggler:
-
I wouldnt plan on ever seeing your money or the product
-
Rule #1 of the Amiga world:
Never, EVER pre-pay for anything, no matter how legitimate the creator looks.
Seriously though, I sympathise. Although I didn't pre-pay, I really wanted the Aladdin project to succeed. I would be interested in knowing if Daren Kazimer (sp?), the programmer, is also wondering where his paycheques are. If that is the case, they should just give him the rights to the code in lieu of pay and he can develop it as his own project.

Ah, that explains your endurance ;) I completely forgot about that particular prepay scam.
I'm sorry to hear you lost money, but I'm with JJ here - forget about Alladin and have fun with Blender instead.
-
Well I dont know about this people might not see their money or product. Discreet has a long standing relationship in the amiga community. Sure, the track record lately is tough, but so are all the other amiga type companies!
Dont forget if it wasnt for Discreet's push for Amizilla we might not have Timberwolf!
-
I have asked Aladdin 4D 6.0's programmer many times for a status update. We put a lot of money into it so the silence bothers us most of all. I don't know what is going on.
:(
Only Deron knows for sure.
FYI
It's not a payment problem, payments are ahead of schedule.

Wait, now you're telling us that you
- don't a actually have any control of or contact with your contracted programmer for who knows how long
- despite the lack of control you've found it acceptable to collect pre-payment money, and keep silent of the issues for months, if not years
Project management - how does it work?
-
How to have control over programmer wich does work in home?
But Amigish busines is usualla based to "good will with fellow amiga hobbyists" and it is far from professional project management.
-
@Piru
We don't collect pre-payments. We currently sell version 5.0 only. Lack of communication from the programmer is a recent thing.

in construction it's the GC that is ultimately responsible for all the sub-contractors. If a sub performs poorly it's the GC who looks bad to the client and not the other way around unfortunately.
