Title: Any amiga new years resolutions?
Post by: runequester on December 31, 2010, 05:31:43 PM
I already got mine, but any of you have anything for the new year?

Something to learn, something to do, something to build, something to kitbash ?

to buy an OS4 machine :)

I dont know weather it will be an x1000 or a sam460 comes down to my money.

I also got a build project that I might either do with the sam (if I go for that) or a mini itx motherboard and build my own media center computer, that should be a big hint as to what I'm going to try and build.

My very own AmigaMCC! (http://www.vincentperkins.com/AmigaNG/mcc.php)
I know it just a simple dvd case type design, but I've always liked it, and I was going to do the walker but look far to hard to achive for my first mod, this one looks more likly, hope to get a board that can run aros on it too and can run amiga forever well. plus have something like xbmc on it. so I have that planed to do quiet early on in the year and finally tranfer all my old amiga files over to my pc and possible os4 way over due on getting round to doing that.

Number one - Post even more often on Amiga.org ...

Nah... only kidding, main priority for next year is just trying to stay healthy and getting me old bones back into shape again... :)

and of course, hopefully a Natami or/and the overdue (still got a few hours left mind you...) X1000... :)

make that 801 and some now...

The way I see it is, I seem to be the only one left in this corner of the world still using an Amiga... :(

So when I discovered this place and you guys, I've got at least ten years of Amiga talk to catch up on and haven't been able to shut up since...

(Just noticed Im one post away from number 2000... :)  need to do a Karlos and keep it for something special... ;))

I'd like to get all of my Amigas back in one piece.

I intend to continue what i have begun this year: use the amiga as it was meant to be, this means in its proper case. No more ugly tower, no buggy bus. In my case, i just want to use my A1200 desktop and A2000, expanded to the maximum, but remaining genuine amigas. This also means 68k, no PPC nor x86.

I'm adding a line at my wife request: stop receiving every week new parcels filled with amiga parts.

:D :D :D

I kind of agree. On one hand its fun to see how much stuff you can stuff in there, but in the end, I prefer my amiga to look like an amiga :)

Its all personal preferences though

I resolve to learn Blender! I've made several false starts at it with my Sam and AOS4 in 2010, but in 2011 it's time I stop collecting programs and tinkering with hardware and OS settings and actually do something creative with this fun stuff.

(Oh, and I might run a nice 30 Amp circuit to power my "Wall of Amigas")

When i come back to my hometown im going to learn how to properly set up my A1200 with os3.9 and its updates.
And hopefully i get it working as it should.

And i will replace the hdd controller in my A500+ and get WB2.1 properly working in it.

And on top of that, i will continue to collect parts for my A2000.
Anyone got a 2060 for sale?

Yeah don't get fleeced into buying overpriced add-ons sold on ebay, that are probably covered in cobwebs and dust and on their last legs just as your paypal payment for £100s goes through to their bank account LOL

The one that immediately springs to mind is to not get as stupid drunk as I did this NYE  again. No real harm done, but it is a little embarassing, even if sort of amusing :)

I have one additional resolution for myself:

I will do my hardest to stop comparing amiga to PC's. The old lady is her own thing, and should stand on her own legs

Consolidate my collection of non-essential (to my systems anyway) misc hardware, software and excess equipment... i.e. sell off a lot of Amiga stuff.
Finish installing software on my A4000 VT/Flyer and make the system stable and usable.
But first...
Install a heating system in the basement to keep from freezing my ass off while working on the VT/Flyer and sorting out stuff to sell.

Which leads me back to having the necessary funds to begin with...
Guess I'll just go down to the bar and have a drink instead.

:D

Save up and send off the prizes for the first Festive Games Competition.
Finish up and organise the prizes to be sent off for the second Festive Games Competition.
Send off my broken CD32, A1200, A600, A2000, and A500 motherboards to AmigaManiac for repairs.
Set up a new forum for Amiga projects where developers, artists, musicians and other creative Amiga users can work on new programs, games, hardware and ideas without distractions.
On this new forum, host all of the current projects I'm working on including two Workbench distributions, several games, programs and hardware expansions.
Make more of an effort to bring together the international Amiga community to share their ideas and help turn them into reality.
Start publishing my original online comic series that I've been developing for years.
Begin work on the ultimate open-source Amiga game maker program capable of producing my dream game.
Finish my simple Quiz Game Maker (working title :p)
Release a few small programs I've been working on for inclusion with the Workbench distribution I'm helping with.
Bundle a few spare fully refurbished Amigas with plenty of cool software and a few useful hardware expansions and sell or give them away to people who will enjoy using them.
Help redesign the Aros mascot Kitty and flesh out her character enough for her to be used in some Aros games, and design her perfect kart for Super Tux Kart.
Get some girls together and dress up as a bunch of Amiga game characters for a calendar and wallpaper collection.
Make a boot disk for the A600 to automatically go online through the serial cable to the PC with IRC, MUD and Telnet clients ready to use.
Build an arcade cabinet with an Amiga inside. Possibly a cocktail cabinet for Deluxe Galaga among others and a 2-player Stunt Car Racer cabinet.
Plenty of other stuff too :D

Improve MPlayer for OS4.
Learn how to do video editing on Blender.
Code as much as possible.
Do some chip modules.
Change the case of my A1.
Once USB 2.0 support is out, buy a supported USB PCI card and a good audio card to replace my Soundblaster.

I really have to find the time to do some coding. I got a little stuck during 2010 on a couple of my projects, and ended up sort of abandoning them until now. But it's been bugging me, so I need to get some motivation, sit down and figure out what the problems are and release some applications :)

Top of the list is AmiTunes (http://www.robthenerd.com/show.php?sect=projects&sub=amitunes&page=screenshots) :)

I'd really, really *REALLY* like to finally sit down and enjoy some of this stuff I've collected and refurbished. Need to become more disciplined when it comes to that. Always seem to be working, on the internet and still buying/selling/trading and time is going by much faster than I wish it would. I've built 1-1/2 rooms full of classic gaming and computing - yet it just sits here for the most part. Seriously need to get my adult ADHD under control. lmao

Would really like to sink my teeth into stuff like DCTV, video and paint programs some more. Maybe even re-hook a printer to an Amiga or C64 to use as a mailing label depot for the goodies I sell and trade. I've got a nice 9-pin here as well as a color Okimate 10 with the C64 adapter. Which reminds me... I "need" the adapter for standard Centronics if anyone has one...

Be nice to also sit and play a game. Any game, for more than a few minutes at a time. I hear Dune II calling me often. lol

One of these days, one of *these* days!   :)

I put an A500 mobo in an arcade cabinet once, wired it to the JAMMA connector.  I still needed the keyboard and mouse for a few things but it was pretty good. Lots of Amiga games "feel" like arcade games too.

It was worth doing just to play Speedball2 in 2 player mode, good way to really thrash some joysticks.

We had a try at the Amiga on a PCI card. Next up the Amiga on a USB stick. :roflmao:
(Does not mean AROS on a USB stick, which is very cool though).
After a decade or two... Amiga in a brain implant, with wi-fi and bio rechargable battery.

Amen!  For me it's learning Lightwave one the Amiga.  Then actually FINISH a full animation (either in DPAINT or Lightwave or Aladdin 4d) from start to finish.  I have more Amiga stuff and software than I ever had, but for some reason I get LESS done than when I had fewer things to play with.  With all the software and gear I have, I spend all my time tinkering and tweaking things rather than getting stuff done!
