Hi All,
Finally getting my Amiga's back into one piece and first up is the A1200, after putting it back together I am getting Vertical lines coming from the Indivision.
My A1200 system is Rev 2B board,3.1 Roms, HP Lisa, Cobra 030 board, IDE Express, Indivision AGA and 300W AT PSU.
I have tried a 15", 17" and 19" CRT and a 15" and 22" wide-screen LCD (although i get no picture from the LCD's), on the CRT I am getting vertical lines running down my screen.
The monitors range from 1999 to 2005. The normal video display is fine, so what am I doing wrong?

Uh-oh, not good. I've seen that vertical banding on nearly every FF/SD ever made sooner or later, especially external models. It might have gotten damaged somehow? Overheat maybe? Some things to try:
1) update to the latest firmware and follow the instructions to the 'T' when doing so.
2) examine all the pins of Lisa's socket for potential debris and bent pins. Also examine Lisa to see that no metal shards are shorting anything out.
3) ensure the Indivision is properly and securely seated and if need be, put something small and rubber (like those little sticky feet for components/computers) a top of the Indivision so that it just hits the RF shield, forcing the Indivision down to Lisa.
...in no particular order. Try the easy stuff first and go from there.
BTW: does the video output without the FF/SD give you the same banding? Probably not, but thought I'd ask.

Is the Indivision secured firmly on the chip? A friend had the same problem, his Indivision was not firmly attached.
Upgrade firmware maybe?

Normal output is fine.
I have cut holes in the shield (ATM it is off) to make room for both expansions (IDE fix and Indivision) all pins look fine, there is no heating problem as it is on boot up (i have had my A1200 in pieces for a year i bought the Indivision a while ago but yesterday was the first time I pulled it out of its box and installed it into the Miggy.

I'm not a big fan of glue guns. First thing that would worry me is overheating something on the mobo or frying a chip. Secondly, it's real messy and if you want to reverse what you did - good luck. Thirdly, you'd probably be impeding Lisa and the Indivision's ability to dissipate the heat they produce. Glue gun might not be the best idea :)
No chance you could stack multiple footings on top of each other to create something taller to reach up to the case? When the case is screwed in, it would press down on the Indivision.

hmmmm I don't normal screw down the A1200 since I use it to test all the 72 pin ram I have (I have a lot of 72 pin ram that i don't know the size of), speaking of which does anyone know of a device that I can use to see what size my 72 pin ram is?
I might have to bite the bullet and screw the case on.. for testing to see if its a loose connection will it be ok if I hold the indivision down while I it powers up?

ummmm GREAT!!! but one problem my friend.... I am not that great in soldiering..... unless ofcourse he meant to just heat them up and not replace them all.....

I'd be glad to look at it it for you at no charge (hardware/firmware engineer) - You can mail it over, or I can pick it up if you're not terribly far away from me in Sydney
The kicker is I no longer have an Amiga to test it on, but I see many similar faults every bloody day

Hey Codepoet thanks mate i will keep you in mind if i blow something up. but i have solved the problem somewhat, I need to hold down the indivision and if I do it works well.
Do I really need the metal shield?
I have some rubber leg things (yes I don't know their proper name :P) will they be safe to hold down the indivision?
What about heating problems if I put them there? or not these what can I use to hold the indi down

PPS guess who has every Naruto episode... :D (including Movies) :D

You don't "need" the RF shield, but if it were there, it would have aided in helping keep the Indivision down closer to Lisa. I wouldn't worry about heating problems with the little rubber feet things. lol
BTW: do you have the model where its socket that has been scored down some? You can tell by looking at it (the plastic won't be perfect). People with HP Lisa's have had good luck shaving their PLCC sockets down. Use a file or grinding wheel if you have one. Something to consider if you're up to the task! Be careful you don't over shave ;)

Some vertical lines have always been there for me, mostly you notice these when the screen is black. But I don't notice them once the WB and stuff is all running.
Kinda like a ripple of shades not really a "line" so to say.

On my indi there is a corner that is a bit more shaved then the other side... look like i have to get my little sharp knife out and do some shaving...
I do have grinding wheel BUT LOL feel much more safer for me to use the knife.. :D
For me the vertical lines appeared straight away and you can't miss them they look like the old TV set's before you tuned the channel, but there are completely gone and the image looks great as soon as I hold down the Indivision.
Maybe hold it down a bit and see if the picture is any better.
Also what's up with LCD's I cant seem to get any picture from them. I have tried an old 15" and 17" also a new 19" wide and 22" wide screen and I Don't even get a picture

Well, mine has has done the exact same thing with the vertical lines from the get go too. I mashed the Indivision down hard and it seemd to be on all the way, but who knows. After installing the Indivision, I applied a thick (about, I don't know, the thickness of about 3 sheets of paper) sheet of plastic, self adhesive type material on the underside of the RF shield above where it would make contact with the Indivision. I got it from an old laptop motherboard (alot of old laptop motherboards have this stuff on them). The Indivision sits up about 3/16" higher than the shield would have been. I put the sheet of plastic on the underside so that the shield would put constant pressure on the Indivision so as not to pop back up. I simply screwed the shield back down firmly and that holds it down really well. But, still same problem as other peeps have. I havn't removed and replaced yet nor have I tried the shaving bit. I really thought I was going to get a beautiful display but just not so. I looks terrible! I think save2600 also previously mentioned either replace the Indivision socket or replace the HP processor with a Commodore processor (which can be done and there are instructions somewhere as I have seen them once).

I forgot to say that when I looked at the Indivision board the soldering around the FPGA looked a bit poor. If i have any problems after all of this I am thinking of reheating and trying to fix all those poor joints.
