Man this is turning into one hell of a nightmare!
Seems I might not have transport for Bath again! Nick's cars in the garage now until saturday afternoon, so thats shafted the plan to get to Bath.
What myself and Nick need is someone whos going to Bath from either around here or passing by on the way who wouldnt mind picking up 2 Amiga users...
please please please say somene out there is willing to lend a hand... I've put a lot of effort into this show so far, I MUST be there!.
-
Sorry couldn't resist :-D
-
you might find it funny Kronos.. but If I cant make it to bath I cant sell the amiga bits I need to sell to buy my family christmas presents. so laugh away, I shall remember not to take pity on you when things are going wrong in your life.

Come on!! Kronos didn't mean it in a bad way, if nothing ese he has bumped the Thread up and kept it in view!!
Ryu, take the train?
-
He is are (for the ones who can't make it) sorta resident photographer at Amiga shows, he done a fine report last time and i'd like to see that again.
Dig deep guys, it's xmas
:-)
-
@Ryu
That sucks! Is there no train? Or do you have a lot of stuff to take with you that only fits in the car? There must be someone that can take you with him? Somebody could take a small detour to pick you up.
Someone?
Coder

The train would take far too long to get there, I seem to recall it being 6 hours when I went to book tickets... and at a cost of nearly £100 for the return... If I had that sorta money I wouldnt be panacing as much as I am now.

You could hire a car, EasyCar do it for £15 per day!!!
-
I dont have a licence, and the guy who does hasnt had one long enough to hire a car... You think I havent tried all the easy options?

Hitchhike?
-
thats one option... but would I make it there alive and ontime with a few hundred pounds worth of amiga gear....
-
I say go with renting a car, take a few other people along, not for the Amiga Show but for a day/XMas shopping trip to bath... PArtents might be a good choice.
-
(http://www.amiga.kicks-ass.org/skittyhorpeUK.jpg)
Just for those who dont know where Skittyhorpe is...
-
I only have the one parent... and I doubt he will be interested in driving another 440 miles to do a spot of christmas shopping when hes a lorry driver during the week doing hundred of miles a day.... :-)
Nice idea but... it wouldnt work..
-
Are there no coaches there cheap but take a long time. Apart from that you dont have any options unless you can get your parents to drive you there. :-?

Hijack a bus!!!
-
the bus would arrive at 7pm on saturday, and I would be stuck until monday to get back again...
-
i dont find all the smilies in this thread to be amusing at all...
ryu i hope u will find a way...
goodluck
-
surely there are people going through skittyhorpe on the way to bath who can pick ryu up on the way.
Ryu change that map so its shows bath on the map. i cant see it there.
-
Ryu wrote:

you could spend a couple of nights in a hostel?
-
To go by coach I would have to go down on friday, stay over in a hostel friday, saturday and sunday night, to get the coach back on monday... you got any idea how much that would cost me? I am totally brasic all by a few quid ive put by to help pay fuel costs...
-
@Mantiss
There done, added it... Might not be 100% correct... but at least I have a rough idea of where it is :-)
-
I suppose if all else fails you could always try giving them Amiga goodies...
If you have to stay a day or so Bath is a beautiful city to visit.
I recommend Sally Lunn's great buns and the fudge shop near the cathederal.

It is was being held in London, then you could have just jumped
How about you put a road trip note on your uni bilboard?
-
I've just been checking to see if there is another means to get there.
And he's right, the transport in the UK is utter@#£"£$^%&^&*^%*%^ (not good).
National express - usless, unless you want to take a weeks holiday to do it.
Railways - Very expensive, and not likely to get you there on time.
Car hire - usually have to be 21/23+ and have a UK driving licence for 3/5 years.
Planes - you'd have to get to from the airports.
Private Car - the only way. :-(
Unfortunatley I live to far aways to do a round trip to scunny.
Perhaps you could go by train, and if everyone at the show donates £1/2 it would cover your costs? :-?

How about finding someone who has had a license long enough to rent the car for your friend, and then you both make the drive to Bath.

That person would have to drive obviously, otherwise insurance would not cover them.
Alternately find someone near skittyhorpe who will give you a lift and use a train to get to them?
Failing that All I can suggest, is tapping your left breast and say "One to beam up"... :-(

While it's true the insurance would not cover them, it would make it possible for them to get to Bath. Unless they find a ride, it's the only way I see they can get there. They just have to be careful.
-
I would be up for it... sadly I dont think the driver nor anyone else would be willing to hire a car for us... just too risky in most peoples eyes...
-
@Ryu
Good luck mate.
@Kronos
Go get 'pegged'
-
Hm....never thought public transportation was that ####e in the UK. Long live privatisation eh?
-
One idea. Does the garage that's holding your mates car hostage supply a courtesy car?
Perhaps you could ask? Failing that ask them to get a move on and fix it by tommorow!? :hammer:
[edit me grammer go is not /edit]
-
@TheJackal
Thats an idea... I'll ask.
-
I wish I had a car. I'd drive you there just for something fun to do! Oh well... :-(
-
Hello
I`m the ex-driver from operation Bath Spa. My cars in for some serious stuff. Engine stuff. The garage is small and doesn`t do courtesy cars. Its going to be ready around midday Saturday. So for around the time the show starts. If we did go we`d be lucky to get there 10 minutes before the end. Very lucky!
I only found all this out today. A nice £293 bill when I`ve hardly done any Christmas shopping and then theres this show. Great timing or what!?
Oh yeah. I`ve only had my license since Febrary this year, so hire cars aren`t possible.
When I`ve payed the car and this bill off i`m getting a new car. New job first me thinks!
-
So is there no one out there going by Skittyhorpe? or indeed down any motorway close to us, like even the M1 would do...
-
Ryu wrote:

i think the only option, is to make this a sticky ##ALL AMIGA ORG MODERATORS...## and then have a big donate url, and every1 give's money, and ryu gets courier with insurance and has a jolly christmas :-)
i'm serious though
-
Hey what about me? :-) Well maybe it doesn`t matter to me as much as Ryu purley because he`s put some effort into the preperation n stuff, and all I`ve done is prepare myself :-)
-
COME ON, im getting desperate now.... Ive just checked coach prices, that is over £100 now!.... please please please please please someone help.
-
How much is a coach to manchester friday evening?
-edit-
According to the national express journey planner, Skittyhorpe <-> Manchester is a no-can-do :-(
Thats pretty poor.
-
I would be up for it... sadly I dont think the driver nor anyone else would be willing to hire a car for us... just too risky in most peoples eyes...
It could also get you in a bit of trouble if you get pulled over by the police and they work out the driver is not the one that hired the car. :-?
-
Wow, I had no idea british public transportation was that bad.
And I thought danish public transportation was bad...
Sincerely,
-Kenneth Straarup.
-
Wow, I had no idea british public transportation was that bad.
its worse than bad its a joke.
You should be covered by your own insurance if someone lends you a vehicle, when my last car sufered engine problems on the motorway and only just made it back home without dying i borrowed my mates ford transit van to drive around in . :-)
-
odin wrote:

It's not that. The fact is that this is an awkward situation:
It's a last minute job (hence no advance booking discounts), it is on one of the worst supported transport routes in the country (public or private) and Ryu has a pile of equipment to lug with him.
I feel sorry for you Daz, and if I was mobile at the moment I'd take the time out to give you a lift down there even though I have no plans to go to the show myself. Alas, "if" isn't going to solve your problem. I really hope something turns up for you.
-
thanks for the kind words Bill.
I've prety much accepted the fact im not going now... guess I'll put my T-shirt away now too...
-
That sucks man, if only I lived in that part of the country, I'd probably drive you two down, especially as you've obv put a lot of effort into the show, and also because I've never been to a show before... :-(
At this point, if I were you, I'd be phoning up mates and asking them for a BIG favour. I once paid a friend to drive me to W London to pick up an Amiga when my car was off the road...any chance? Or how about someone's parents, brother, sister, etc?
-
@ Cyberus
Tried all that and failed.
Im on one last hope with a guy over at amigaworld, he comes from Melton Mowbray which isnt too far from here... well 70 miles but its a lot cheaper to get there and back then it is for me to get to bath and back on the train.
-
@ Cyberus
Good luck. I really hope you get there.
:-(

Bit of a status update... Im still not any closer to getting to Bath, Im waiting to hear back from Cap still... I hope he replies when he gets in from work... otherwise it doesnt look like im going. JurrasCamper has offered to help out, but the logistics invovled in getting down to him arent good and probable costly. :-(
-
Check this AmigaWorld Thread (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2470&forum=4&start=20&viewmode=flat&order=0) Someone else from Grantham has made an offer.
-
Hello
Perhaps you can go to local taxi pool and ask
the manager about possible solution to your
problem.
In several Asian countries the only safe way for
transportation is .......... armored limo! :-)
PS: my first impression of the title is
"I need to take a bath!" :-)
-
zap to the top

What about ED-209 (I've forgotten his name on here), he lives in Wales. If he was going it'd be easy for him to pick you up on the way.
Although with you being on IRC a lot you've probably sked him yourself and got a reply you didn't want :-(
Hope you get there.
--Edit--
MikeAmiga that's him innit? The guy getting eaten by a rock on Faces of :-D

Vinc I dont like anywhere near Wales dude, im up north near "Ull" or as its know "Hull" :-)

I'd just like to take this opertunity to thank everyone who tried to assist me, and a thank you to all those people who wished me well. Im almost certain I now have transport arranged, so I will see those who are going to the show tomorrow. A big thankyou to the guys over at AmigaWorld.net for their support and their generous offers too... makes my heart feel warm to know there is still kind amiga users out there.
To all those who tried to make fun of my situation... well the time will come when you need help, and when that time comes I hope people are as cruel to you as you have been to me.

Don't take it personally. I don't think anyone was making fun of your situation as such. It's just human nature to turn to humour when things go pear-shaped.
My initial reaction to the subject line was to reply "It's up the stairs, second door on the right.", but I canned it when I realised you weren't in the mood to appreciate the joke. Nevertheless, it would have been irreverent fun, not mockery of your predicament.

Ah right, sorry man. I just remembered about Mike today, and I can't see the lovely map that you posted ;-) (which has "Edinburgh" instead of "Dundee", Edinburgh is just below the big jut of water ;-) ).
