I remember danish magazine advertisements for ones with 50 meg drives or thereabouts, but I don't know if that was the standard or just the ones being sold locally.

I want to say 40mb was the standard and probably by Quantum. Looking at a dealer's sales sheet from Commodore, the A2500 came standard with 40mb as well.
Ahh... looking at TBBOAH, says 2000HD's were indeed typically Quantum, but were 52mb in size. Queer how the A2500 only got a 40mb version. I bet most people upgraded that right away from their dealer.

I remember the early ones coming with 40MB drives, and the later ones with 52's as standard. At the time the 52's came out, the 105's were an option. If my dusty memory serves, the 40's were full height 3.5" drives mounted in the second floppy bay. The 52's were mounted to the 2091 controller. I don't recall seeing the 2090 MFM card, or if there was an 'official' 2000HD that used it.

I have a 2090 and an MFM HD if anyone wants to add this lovely pair to their Amiga collection :)

Here's an old clip showing of the A2000 made way back in 87...:)
(seems you have to switch from 360p to 240p to hear the audio !!!)

Not me ;-) I was just looking thru my Amiga zine scans.. seems the first reference to an official 2000HD used the 2090 and a 40MB drive. I guess they showed a 2094 controller with both MFM and SCSI... but i don't recall ever seeing one in the real world.

The 2094 is a 2090 bundled with a 40MB drive.
The story about the Quantum's is true, the 40MB (and 20MB!) drives where full height 3.5" and sat next to the floppy drive, much like the MFM drives. Also note: the A2090 has no room for a drive, that means it also sat at the second floppy bay.
The latter 52MB (and 105MB) where Quantum LPS drives (Low Profile) which meant they could sit on the brand spanking new A2091 controller.

Yep, I have it's bigger (size) brother Quantum 425i, it still works :)

Yeh, the controller is a 2091 and the drive is a Quantum so maybe it's a 50Meg. I'll check using the HD tools next time it's powered up.
