Title: Help Needed: A1200 Wireless Prism Card & Clear 4G+ Hot Spot
Post by: Rabbi on December 19, 2010, 05:54:03 PM
Hi All,

I've got a LinkSys wireless PCMCIA card that works with everything EXCEPT with the 4G+ Hot Spot I got from Clear.com (http://www.clear.com/devices/details/id/63).  It's made by Sierra Wireless.  As soon as it connects with MiamiDeluxe, it crashes the system.  I had been using a next-door neighbor's Clear Home Modem made by Motorola and bought him the cheapest router (LinkSys brand) from Walmart and that worked for the both of us.  I've moved since.   Can anyone help here?

If you're using DHCP, try using a static configuration instead. Or do you have another TCP/IP stack installed you can try?

I'll try your suggestion over this coming week-end.  I'll have time to play with my Amigas later in the week.

I have the Genesis (?) TCP/IP stack that came with AmigaOS 3.9 CD, but was never able to successfully install it.

I use the sprint 3G pcmcia card in the custom linksys router(WRT54g-ST),and just hook to the router via miamiDX,this doesn't help you,but it works great this way.Are you using miamidx1.0c?

I have the ClearSpot 4G+ and I am able to get my A1200 to connect. It DOES get an IP address and the ClearSpot makes the little chime. IBrowse, Aweb and Amirc appear to start working but the machine crashes typically in a few seconds.

I have tried WEP-64 and WEP-128 settings on the ClearSpot.

I dunno. Maybe try with WEP disabled.

Does your ClearSpot work well? I have had mine for about a month and it seems great most of the time but it seems to have little fits where I constantly need to reset it. Also the 3G performance is very poor.

Wow! I never thought I would find another Amigan using the ClearSpot 4G+!

My A1200 crashes in just the same way yours does. It connects, then, just about immediately crashes.  You don't have any problems connecting on wi-fi with any other device, do you?

I was told by my former neighbor who, like you and me experience spotty WiMax service with our ClearSpot 4G+, that he spoke to tech support at Clear and they told him that when the weather is poor, like when it's raining, that their WiMax signal weakens.  Have you observed this, too?

I've also tried every WEP setting, in addition to no WEP - an open wi-fi connection, but I wouldn't advise leaving an open wi-fi connection for any real length of time.  I just did it to determine if using WEP was a problem or not.  Apparently, WEP or no WEP has no bearing on this problem.
