The competitors:
DCE Blizzard 1260 060/50MHz

vs
ACA 1230/56 Accelerator

What I am looking at doing is loading OS 3.9 on my Amiga 1200 system and am wondering which board do you think would be a better fit?
Amiga 1200 specs:
Amiga 1200 HD
OS 3.1 (kickstart 3.1 ROM)
120 GB hard drive
2 MB RAM
Wireless network card

Without doubt, the 1260 is going to run rings around the 1230 in terms of speed, probably about 7-8x faster for integer performance. However, there could be some compatibility issues with old software.
OS3.9 should run fine on both.

I'd go with the Blizzard 060, the difference in performance is like night and day in comparison to an 030. I already have one of these and it preforms even better than my Blizzard 060/PPC board... :)
And at that price I'm seriously considering purchasing one myself thats a bargain price compared to the prices on ebay that these boards go for... :)
It's also safe to upgrade the Blizzard to 60Mhz for even better performance...
-
I'm doubtful you actually have a choice.
Softhut is a great vendor, but their website rarely reflects actual in-stock items. Confirm via email that they have the Blizzard, and then consider your options.
The 030 is best for games and general compatability, the 060 is much better for performance.

I wonder if softhut really has them in stock. Seems they update their website infrequently...
-
Blizzard 1260 is massively faster. I would get that if it is available.
-
Softhut also shows they have the Viper 1260 68060 50MHz, these pretty much the same as a DCE Blizzard?

If you go for the Blizzard 060 + 64MB RAM @ $444.90 total, thats a bargain, you wont get one of these on ebay in the UK for less than £360 or $560... :)
-
Blizzard '060s rock hard.

I'd stay clear of the Viper boards I've had two in the past and both had problems with the circuit board actually warping due to the heat causing the RAM sockets not to work... :(
Both required me desoldering and then soldering on new stronger less flexible ram sockets, not a job for the faint hearted... :(

I just received an Email from softhut and they confirmed that they do not have any Blizzards in stock (but they have Typhoons?).
Oh well. :(

Typhoon is an '030, probably better going with the newly developed ones.

The Individual Computers' ACA accelerator board has much faster memory than any other '030 accelerator. Buy this one and you won't be disappointed.
