I have now got Shapeshifter running, and i want to use it more in the future instead of Basilisk II, due to being more easier to set up and having more features (CD-ROM and 720k floppy disk). I have also got the CardTrickEVD for the external video drive (for BVision), and i use the "Direct" mode when requester comes up.
Although it runs pretty well, it still does not run as fast as Basilisk II, i noticed the screen refresh is not quite as good when moving windows, etc. I know that Shapeshifter can run faster than this cos i have heard news about it running very fast and supposedly running faster than Basilisk II. Is there anything i can do that could possible make this emulation run any more faster?
Thanks,
-
set refresh rate to 0 , it will make it fly...
i have completed many big sierra games in shapeshifter (games like kings quest 7 and space quest 6..) and they are rather useless to play on a 040 mac (minimum spec is 040 25 , preferred is ppc) ..
i have no issues with refresh but i have heard others do, so check the refrewsh switch in videomodes menu... (where u set the cardtrick evd etc)..
cheers

Does Warcraft2 run in Basilisk2?
I know that it stopped working on shapeshifter after the 2.6 (or 2.8?) version...

@Lempkee
Thanks. I will try that.

If you decide to use native screen modes THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4598&item=2772104809) improves things greatly. Doesn't do anything for RTG though.
The card is shipped with drivers for the popular macintosh-emulator "shapeshifter". These drivers accelerate the graphics output of the emulator dramatically: Compared to a 256-colour mode of the AGA chipset, the Graffiti is 30 times faster! All you need is an A1200 and a standard monitor like the 1084.

@redrumloa
I am not really interested in purchasing a Graffiti grapics card. I just want the fastest output possible on Blizzardvision, or even AGA. Thanks anyway though. :-)

Umm actually that's what the Graffiti GFX card does, it makes AGA 30+ times faster:-)

Okay i might be tempted. By any chance is that Graffiti GFX card yours! :-D

Yes I have an entire inventory of them :-)

AHA!

For AGA you can use TurboEVD, Savage or any other driver... it has the advantage of allowing you to continue using a Scandoubler/FlickerFixer

@ Crumb
I had the shareware demo of Warcraft 2 working nicely on 060/PicassoII with ShapeShifter 3.10. Couldn't find the Mac 68K commercial version. I've got a PC copy, but it's a very early release; later versions came on hybrid CDs.

Here's the defining point:
Would Shapeshifter run faster under AGA, Graffiti or Blizzardvision?
-
It would be MUCH faster on the Blizzardvision.
And you will be able to use 16/32Bit graphic modes too, much faster than using AGA
-
A funny side note about Shapeshifter on AGA: When I was running Shapeshifter on 040/40MHz with a fast AGA C2P driver, Photoshop was faster in 8-bit than Photogenics was on a native 8-bit screen.

I used to use MacOS 7.5.3 on ShapeShifter 3.10 on the bvision.
It was much faster than AGA, but I got the impression there was no actual hardware graphics acceleration of any kind (blits etc.) and that only the chunky framebuffer sped things up over AGA. For example, moving a window still had visible redraw, just a lt quicker than AGA. If the blitter were used I wouldn't expect to see it at all.
Can anybody confirm this? Or ist it a 7.5.3 problem?
-
mmm I don't know about Shapeshifter but I think that Fusion had the possibility of having blitter acceleration...
