Title: AGA+CRT VGA Monitor question.
Post by: Thorham on December 07, 2010, 07:07:51 PM
Hi,

What is the best resolution possible with AGA on a CRT VGA monitor? The monitor I use is a 17 inch VGA monitor which goes up to 1600x1200, and can sync down to about 29 Khz/50 Hz (tested).

I'm asking because the standard monitor drivers don't seem to go as high as they should. Super high res is one of the things that's missing for VGA compatible modes, and overscan seems rather limited. I'm currently using Multiscan Productivity, and that's just 640x480.

Note: I'm aware of the 15 Khz screen mode issue, and have been using a video box for those modes (composite video, yuk!).

Any help is appreciated :)

Just ran a quick test using the Super72 modes on my old Microvitic Multisync, this one gives a better/sharper picture than the Multiscan Productivity modes IMO... :)

Super72 is too low a scan rate at 24.62 Khz. My monitor syncs down to about 29 Khz.

I wasn't too sure if you could push your monitor any further, I don't think the Euro72 is as good a picture quality buy the scan rates are 72hz and 31.43 Khz if that one's any use... :)

It works, sure :)

Anyone any good experiences with programs such as Moned and Monitor Killer?

What I also want to know is what's possible by hand programming a screen mode (you know, hit the hardware in ASM)? It would be nice to offer support for 15 Khz and 31 Khz displays in software that shuts down the OS.
