Title: FastLane Z3 memory.
Post by: Vlabguy1 on December 06, 2010, 09:52:31 PM
mm.. Does the Fastlane Z3 memory trump the A4000's motherboard memory??
I have a A4000D fully loaded with memory on the MB and a Fastlane fully loaded..
System does not seem to recognize the MB memory.  At least according to Showconfig,
and SysInfo.. mm

I should hope so!  The fast page memory required by the motherboard is dog slow by comparison.

Onboard RAM is faster.

Ok just checking. Thought there may have been something wrong with the MoBo..  I would assume then if I pulled the Fastlane out of the machine then the motherboard memory
would be recognized/used.

Thanks again
Rich

Writing down bytes as pairs of hex digits on a physical notepad and then typing them back in probably faster than A4000 motherboard RAM ;)

Both lots of FastRAM should show up on your A4000. My A4000 & FastLane shows 80MB of fast (16MB board + 64MB Z3)

I believe the FastLane RAM is marginally faster than the motherboard RAM, but it won't make much difference. CPU card RAM is what you need for best performance.

Just wondering if your Z3 ram shows up as one block in SYSInfo?  or is it divided in two ..

Thanks
Rich

I've never checked, and I'm afraid my A4000 is in bits at the moment. I'll report back when I get a chance, but I can't promise it'll be soon. :(

The motherboard ram should be slightly faster, this of course assumes you compare 60ns on both.

fastlane ram and motherboard ram should both show.

try scout.
