Title: How to clean a floppy drive?
Post by: Super TWiT on December 05, 2010, 04:46:26 PM
The floppy drive on my pc wasn't quite working right, so I decided to take it apart and clean the heads.  The heads were so close together, that I couldn't help but side-sweep them. (Every site I've seen says to dab, not swipe to avoid knocking the heads out of alignment)  I also noticed on accident that the drive head arm moves up slightly.  Am I supposed to seperate the heads first before cleaning them by moving this arm?  Ironically enough, the drive still seems to work.

When you say still seems to work, is it working better than before?

My initial instinct reading the subject was just use compressed air, but clearly you've gone further than that already. :) I'd say if the arm moves freely, do it.
