Title: How can I edit the Mouse Pointer
Post by: Ral-Clan on November 27, 2010, 09:42:47 PM
Hi, I have found the Mouse Pointer files in the Workbench PREFS directory and would like to create my own mousepointers in DeluxePaint or ImageFX.  But when I try to load the files as ILBMs I get an error message.

What format are these in and is there any way to edit them without using the very cumbersome graphics tools in Workbench/Preferences/Pointers panel?

Run Prefs/Pointer and select Edit / Load image from the menu. It can load any picture type you have installed in Devs/Datatypes.

Yes, but if I already like the normal Amiga pointer, and want to load it into an external graphics program for editing, how can I do that?

Pointer prefs are saved in a proprietary file format, I don't think any other program can load it. But the prefs program has clipboard support. Select edit / copy from the menu to copy the current image into the clipboard and then use multiview or any other program with clipboard support to load it and save as an image. However, for me this only works correctly in OS 3.9. The 3.1 prefs program mixes up the palette (but the image comes out nevertheless, only colors are incorrect).

Thanks, that copy/paste tip is very helpful.  I always forget that the amiga clipboard is an option (I always save/load).
