Ok,
So I phone you up and ask you to meet me at the Twin Pines Mall at 1:15 am.
When you arrive I explain to you my Nissan is actually equipped with a flux capacitor that can take you back in time.
I only have enough plutonium for one return trip.
Due to some pecularities of the field generated by the flux capacitor the only thing you can bring back to the future with you is one Amiga related item, anything else will collapse the field and strand you in the past.
What will you bring back?
-
Wait, are we bringing something from the present to 1985, or something from 1985 to the present?
Well, to cover both cases:
I'd bring a 1200 to 1985 in the hope that AGA could have given VGA some serious competition before it was too late.
And I'd take Mehdi Ali from 1985 so he wouldn't be able to bring down the company.
-
I would bring back Jay Miner, so that he could design cool computers again.
-
I'd Take my Amiga Almanac so that I could make bets about significant Amiga events in history such as...
1. Introduction of the A1000.
2. What would be on the inside cover of the A1000.
3. The day Commodore shut it's doors.
3. The names of the morons who have hurt more than helped! :uzi:
Armed with this info I could become the equivalent of Nostradamus.

:)
I hadn't thought of taking anything back to the past but not a bad idea...
I'll just tweak the flux capacitor a little bit...
How about a CF install of 3.9?
Show that to Commodore and get them to reverse engineer the CF, patent it ,include it in the miggys and fund themselves!
Problem is that I musn't be succesful in getting Commodore to listen to me otherwise we would today already have Commodore developed CF cards ?
As for bringing something back to the future with me, I'd bring back a US layout CDTV keyboard!

:)
I'll just tweak the flux capacitor a little bit...
I'd bring simpler stuff to 1985.
OS 2.1 with a 16 color palette and a comprehensive modern icon set
Dopus 4.xx
ReqTools
I think a few simple tweaks would have made a huge difference in how the Amiga was perceived. Also, how many programmer got bogged down writing their requesters?

A 4gb SCSI hard drive, ready to mount on an A1000. The hard drive contains all of the necessary technical files for the development of:
The PCI standard (and samples of the technology - it's not Amiga specific, so no field collapse!)
The USB standard (ditto!)
xGA graphics (VGA/SVGA/WXUGA, etc.) chipsets and associated 3d GPU technology (also ditto!)
16-bit audio technology (also also ditto!)
OS 4.0
PPC technology (note: I rather don't give a damn about PPC, but it's 1985 and Intel doesn't quite have a foothold yet - oh and also, also also ditto as well!)
TCP/IP protocols (ibid!)
The source code for various web-browsers (same!)
Documents outlining the importance of VM and multi-user and networking as standard (whoa yeah the same!)
Source code for all of iD's popular FPS's that they've released the code for (STILL not Amiga related! ha! I win!)
...and finally...
A CDXL or ANIM-5 with sound of the Deathbed Vigil as a warning.
I count all of this as "one thing" since it's all on a single hard-drive! :D
EDIT: Actually, you know what? The Amiga could read DOS formatted hard drives - let's make 'em MS-DOS volumes just to be sure. That way I can bring as many as I want! I'd bring a second with a full blown copy of Openstep and another with Linux (and sources) for the C= engineers to pore over.
-
I'd take back an Intel Mac set up to dual boot OSX and Windows with a warning, beware!
-
Take to the past? A demonstration of a slightly more user-friendly Amiga GUI, with demo content including a lecture on the fact that it was the C64's combination of power and AFFORDABILITY that made it so wildly successful.
Take back to the future? ...who said I wanted to go back?

I would take a sports almanac so that I could parlay a small amount of money into a lot. I would then buy in as a major shareholder in MS. I would let Commodor crumble just as it did. (Sorry guys, it was going to happen). I would then come back to the future, sell a few dozen million in stock, and buy the all rights to the Amiga from everyone that has touched the name so that all IP is unified back under one company. Following that I would hunt up the major developers of current Minimig and Aros stuff, and give them a nice 6 figure salary each to make me toys.
Don't worry, I would let you guys play with them too.

I'd get a lift of Darrin in his Tardis (once he's finished rebuilding it) and go forward into the future first and steal all the plans idea's & technology from all those great things that are around in the future like the Natami, MiniMig AGA, X1000, Aros, MorphOS etc... :)
Battlle a few Daleks & Cybermen (who run Apple & Microsoft) along the way, then head back in time not to 1985 but to 1975 find the young Jay Miner and give him all the stuff. Then when 1985 came around he'd had developed & invented a machine the was so far ahead of it's time (even further than the original Amiga was) that no-one could ever beat it and he'd never have had to went to Commodore in the first place... :)
Thus in the world today as we know it everyone would be using an Hi-Toro Amiga and we could all live happily ever after... :D
-
I'd go back and get hold of the very first amiga. Not the Amiga1000 but the actual prototype :)
I'm not sure how a breadboard computer would hold up in 2010 or how much space it would take up but who cares!
I wonder if there was a way to hook up USB and Bluetooth
I would also steal Mitchy! :)

Just think what you could for that on ebay... :)
-
Just drop me off in 1983. I'll bring my own C64.
-
Can your time machine travel to the future as well? In that case I'd like to try to go to 2025, buy the latest OS4.x HW and OS, hoping that there will be any, and bring it back here. Oh, and I'd send an ISO of OS4.x to the Friedens, they might find it interesting :)

Hold on, Darrin has a Tardis?
My Nissan has a CD player, does the Tardis have one of those?

What... you haven't seen it yet...
Hang on a minute and I'll find it, there are pics around here somewhere of it... It's really cool... :)

@ Marcb
Here it is Darrins pride & joy... :)
Darrins Tardis MK I & MK II (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?p=588695#post588695)

Awesome!
That's the coolest thing I've seen for a long time!
-
I'd settle for the Grays Sports Almanac.
-
I'd bring back a DOS PC to use as the basis of the arcitecture for PC systems in 2010........
On second thoughts no one would go for that??? Surely....
