How long have you been an Amiga user. So's not to leave anyone out this time I'm including anyone using just an emulator or any type of Amiga OS system/Hardware as long as it is Amiga... (ie: not just so called Classic Hardware)... :)
Heck I'm feeling so generous here I'll even allow those of you who went away from the Amiga scene to other platforms (Boo, Hiss) and then saw the light and came back (Yeah...) to best computer system ever, to count from when you got your very first Amiga... :)
1) less than 1 Year
2) 1 to 3 years
3) 4 to 6 years
4) 7 to 9 years
5) 10 to 12 years
6) 13 to 15 years
7) 16 to 18 years
8) 19 to 21 years
9) 22 to 24 years
10) 25+ years
(hope I've covered everyone this time, as me flak jackets getting a bit shot full of holes these days... )
-
I guess about 20 to 21 years... Moved to AROS in 1999, though it didn't do much back then :)
-
About 21 years, though I've only been an owner for 18.
-
I first used an Amiga when i was 10 back in around 1991 and got my first one a year later (A500 Plus)
-
Got my first A500 in 1989, so 21 years in total.
-
Since 1985, but mostly just a hobby now. Have not used anything but PC at work in the last 15 years.
-
Got my first Amiga 500 in 2001; I'd been searching for a replacement for the Commodore 64 my dear mother gave to Goodwill, and found out about the other computer Commodore was famous for. Got one off eBay with Another World and Ports Of Call and I was hooked. Unfortunately I had to give it up in one of our moves, and I spent a long time without one after that.
Early this year, however, I got in touch with a nice fellow out in Colorado who gave me a 500 setup for the cost of shipping, which I had to sign up with a "gun-friendly" PayPal alternative to provide. Built that up for a while until this fall, when a crotchety old farmer sold me a 2500 (stripped of its accelerator) for a reasonably low price after refusing to sell me absolutely anything else out of his enormous piles of awesome stuff for an amount I could afford. (Seriously! There was a Blizzard 040 in there, and now it's probably gone to the dump :furious:)
I've built the 2500 back up with a larger hard drive, fast RAM, and an accelerator, and that's now my main Amiga. And since the AGA machines don't really hold much interest for me, it'll probably stay that way :)
-
21 years.. Out of a total of 30 as of writing.
However I broadened the machine range I use around 1996.
-
Fell in love with the Amiga not long after the a1000 was released (my brothers friend had one and I used to tag along sometimes so I could play on it), but I didnt have my own until '87 when the a500 was released. I tried to get one beforehand, but being that I was only 10 in '85 I relied on Mum, and she didnt give in until there was a cheaper option :)
-
My first Amiga was an A1000 which I bought when KS & WB 1.1 was first released.
I got an A4000 in 1998 and proceeded to Tower it, I was later given a none working A4000 which I was able to fix.
Most of my amiga need are now met by using Amiga Forever and some testing of AROS.
Although I just got a Voodoo4 card so will test on my A4000 Tower when I get the time.

Same here, my Mum and Dad finally saved up enough money to buy me the Batpack A500 for Christmas '89 when I was 12yrs old.
Best xmas day ever! :)
-
23 years on and off. Mostly on. First Amiga was the A1000 that my parents helped split the cost of Christmas of '87 :)
-
It's kinda weird (and a wee bit scary) when you look at the actual number of years of your life that you've been into the Amiga for, sometimes wonder what other computer I'd have been into if the Amiga hadn't come along, or worse what if home computers hadn't been invented at all...

Gawd, 12 years old in 1989, that make's me feel decrepit, I thought everyone was born in the 60's...

Well it's nice for me to feel young for a change Frank.
-
I got my first Amiga in 1987 o 1988 I can't remember... then I stopped using Amigas in 1997 or so... the I used only WinUAE and in 2008 I returned to the "physical" amigas :)
Regards,
Efren
-
Since 2007. I grew up with the C64 in the 80s, and honestly only got into Amiga recently because of the Commodore connection.
-
...sometimes wonder what other computer I'd have been into if the Amiga hadn't come along...
My first A500 was in 1989 after watching it and an IBM XT running Battle Chess (demo mode) in a store front window side by side.
I migrated from DOS 2.1 at work.
...I thought everyone was born in the 60's...
Me too! :)
-
Me too! :)
Nope, 50's - Amigan for 19.5 years.
-
Got my 1200 as a kid in 1992. Took a break in 98 or so. Messed around with emulation a bit and this year got a 1200 again :)
-
Got my first A500 in 1989 IIRC. Most of the money came from my great-grandma. She was probably one of the few ppl from the 19th (born 1895) century who (indirectly) participated in an Amiga purchase. But I guess she never really got what's it all about and preferred to tell me stories of the emperor's (Wilhelm II that was) birthday over trying a nice game (no she really wasn't able to handle that anymore with 95 years).
But eventually she overlived C= by a year to 1995...

Since 1985, but mostly just a hobby now. Have not used anything but PC at work in the last 15 years.
"Just a hobby" statement always bothered me, as if making money (making a living) is the most important of all things and hobbies are secondary? I know so many people that would kill to be able to spend most of their waking hours on their hobbies. (I gather that this may not be the case for you and Amiga.)
-
Had my first Amiga in 1992, an A600 then got an A1200 when they came out the same year. Then I sold my Amiga in 1994 to get a 386 PC with DOS 6.22 and played Doom and X-Wing.
Then several years later in 2001 a friend at work knew I used to have Amigas and showed me a copy of Amiga Active magazine and they were talking about these fantastic new Amigas with PowerPC chips that Amiga Inc were making, so I came back to the Amiga 'scene' in anticipation of these new wonder machines, buying my OS4 $50-off coupon and waiting patiently as the years went by and then I finally noticed MorphOS which blew me away the first time I used it. So, 18 years an Amiga user but with an 8-year gap in the middle.
-
I got my first Amiga in April 1987, and I've always had at least one Amiga at home since then.
-

Actually it is just a hobby at the moment. I am really trying to work on my real job at the moment as I hope to retire in a few years. After that, I may start trying to do some hardware projects like I used to do years ago.

Come on who said over 25 years as the Amiga 1000 is 25 :-)
I said 22-24, got mine 87.
-
Only about 13 years, got an A600 in 96 or 97, can't remember for sure.
-
I got my first A500 for Christmas when I was 12, so it's been about 22 years.

Me for one, the Amiga was first launched in the USA in 1985 under the name Commodore Amiga in 86 it was renamed the A1000. Me and two mates had pre ordered ours in 85 as part of the first consignment shipped to the UK and were as far as I know amongst the very first A1000 users in the UK at the very end of 85 start of 86.
So give or take a couple of months and as it's nearly the end of 2010 and almost 2011 it's actually just past the 25 year mark thus the 25+ option and for those in the states who bought the very first batch ever produced it's definitely 25 years + for them... :)

I started in 1991 with my Amiga 500 with rom 1.3 but after I continue better the Amiga with expansions, rom 2.05, etc., until now with my Sam and WinUAE with original OS 3.5 and 3.9.
-
8 months ago a friend asked me Have you seen an Amiga 1200 for sale at...? I had heard of Amigas, but Never had seen one. After the Spectrum 48 and Commodore 64 I went directly to the Megadrive and later to Pc's. When I first saw it I liked it, then I joined this forum and I'm beginning so, any problem? ... see my signature :)
-
I got my A500 v1.3 in 1989... (long time ago!)

I am impressed, then I guess you know what a GBA1000 is then, managed by the luck of the devil to open AmiBay 2 minutes after what I believe is the first working GBA1000 board was advertised for sale on that site. Obviously it is now winging its way to the uk :-)
-
I think I got my first Amiga (An A500) back in 1990 after being a Commodore 64 and 128 user for around 3 years or so..... so that makes it 20 years now... once an amigan, always an amigan ;)
Cheers,
Dragster

I fell in love with the Amiga at least 1 year before it was released.
I have been an Amiga user since the day it was first released.

I remember buying my A500 in '89 at Grace Bros. Maroubra Junction (I guess only Australians will know where that is/was)
I took it home and at first I wasn't sure I'd done the right thing after having owned a C64 for so long... didn't take long to get over that though :)

Bought myself an A2000 back in 1987 with the money I'd saved after doing Basic Training in the British Army. Well, it was either that or squander it on beer and loose women. :D
-
I've been an Amiga User since 1985 and I've never used anything else but an Amiga at home as my computer and I never will... I doubt many can also claim that YES of course I know most of you are thankful you're not in this tiny faction... but it sure feels cool from where I'm sitting and that's a fact :)
-
Got my first Amiga in late 1986. Our Commodore user group started supporting the Amiga in late 1985, so I started using them before I bought one.
I was actually crazy enough to buy an A1200 when they were first released! Bought the 10th unit that a Glen Burnie (Baltimore) Amiga dealer got in. Man that thing was expensive!
-
Hm... interesting. It seems that many long term users got the first Amiga somewhere between 1987 and 1989. Like myself... ;)

I always knew I wasn't the only one in this world, it's nice to know there's at least one more sensible soul out their... :)

Bought my first Amiga in 1988 to replace my C64.
An A500 with rev 5 motherboard and KS 1.2. It was only a short while later I bought a desperately needed A501 ram expansion and an A1010 external 3.5" diskdrive, making my Amiga much more usable. 512 KB and only one drive is just not enough for an Amiga.
-
19-24 years. Figured as much...
-
I was the second person in Odessa, TX to buy an Amiga 1000.
Wife, at the time, was pissed as all get out with my spending all that money. I didn't care!
Have had A2000 , 500, 3000T, and 3000D over the years.
Of all them, the A1000, IMHO, has the best case design. Love the "garage" for the keyboard. Nice, clean, trim lines. If it had had a better expansion system, I would've stayed with it all the way.
-
Got my first Amiga back in 1987... so that makes 23 years.
-
And with the benefit if hindsight?
LOL. Ah, but the girls would have faded away in my memories whereas my Amigas are still here... except I can't fit my willy into the floppy drive slot. :D
-
I don't remember the month, but it was early 1986 when I got my new Amiga 1000, putting me shy of 25 years. (I am now in my 40's, run #amiga on efnet, and love my C=3kT)
-
Started at a friends home with the C64 early 80's.
He then got an Amiga 1000 and swapped it for an A500 shortly after that, but I had more hours on it than him, funny thing was that I could walk in whenever I felt like :)
Got my first own C64 in 1987 and in 1991 my first own A500.
Never had anything else, only a second A500, but untill early 2010 those where the only things.
So this year I picked up in blazing speed and just bought everything around me.
Total line up is in the signature.
-
Hmmmm.... I can clearly remember buying my first Amiga, but as to when is the question. I had gone into my favourite gadget shop called Tandys in Crawley and the latest PC was playing the video 'All I Wanna Do' from a CD single of Dannii Minogue's. The manager saw me in my scruffy work clothes as I was a painter at the time and probably thought to himself "He won't be able to afford a PC for fifteen hundred quid" lol.. Anyway, he came over to me and said "I've got a cheap computer you can have for fifty quid". He explained that it was his own called a Commodore Amiga 500 Plus and that it was out the back. Eventually he went and got it I said I'd have it and paid the man and left :)
I've googled to see when that single was released and it was in 1997. So you can disregard the above ramble and I'll just tick 13 to 15 years
:drink:
.

By god man what about the beer??
-
I started in 1989 when me and my brother got one "to help with our school work" which thankfully never happened :)
Started using Amiga in 1989 which made me 5 years old :)
-
I have been a Amiga user for about 17 years, and before that I was a C64 user. One day I was invited home to a guy who had a A500, and he decided to show me what the Amiga was capable of, and I got very impressed by playing games like Lotus 2, Lemmings and Pinball Dreams. Then he showed me Deluxe Paint and I was even more impressed, and he continued with booting up a disk with OctaMed where he showed me that it was possible to make music in a rather easy way as well on the Amiga, and this by actually using REAL sounds!
He offered me to borrow his A500 if he could borrow my C64, and I agreed to this. A couple of months later, I was hooked and I decided to buy an Amiga, he then offered me to buy his A500 which was something I ended up with doing. Later this guy became one of my best friends, and he often came to my place for playing games and stuff.
Then in 1997 I bought a brand new A1200 with harddisk & Apollo 1240 accelerator, and during the years that followed, I upgraded my A1200 by towerizing it, buying a CD writer +++
I must admit that I use my PC most nowadays, but when it comes to my Amigas, I mostly use my A1200 since it's the most expanded one. But I regard my A500 as being the most important one to me, this is partially because it was my very first Amiga, but also because it once belonged to my friend who unfortunately died in a accident in 2003.
-
LOL. Ah, but the girls would have faded away in my memories whereas my Amigas are still here... except I can't fit my willy into the floppy drive slot. :D
Oh so you have actually tried this :roflmao:
-
I used my first C= computer in 86? i was no more then 6 years old myself at the time and it was my friends Vic20! later on he got a C64 and i got one myself even later (a used one), as a lot of you guys i later on got my first Amiga but i used Amigas at my friend`ses houses first as i could not afford one myself nor my family as we were far from "rich" like a lot of others around where i grew up, and the rest as they say is history :-).
-
By god man what about the beer??
You want me to put my willy in my beer?! I'm Welsh, not Scottish. :p
-
Oh so you have actually tried this :roflmao:
Haven't we all? Usually after the bit in Defernder of the Crown where we get to shag the princess. :)
-
My days as Amiga user started the 22. of January 1994, the day I had my 20th birthday. I remember saying to my dad on the phone that I had bought myself a new girlfriend :)
-
Haven't we all? Usually after the bit in Defernder of the Crown where we get to shag the princess. :)
Unfortunately I haven't played Defender of the Crown that much, the closest thing I can think of that could have inspired me to try such things is when I used to play Samantha Fox strip poker on my C64, but back then I didn't have a diskdrive, and I don't think the tapedrive would have helped much as a substitute :)
