Title: Your favourite game ever on any platform? ..

I have a long list of favourites going right back to when I bought my first computer after seeing somone playing Jetpac on a rubber keyed ZX Spectrum in the early 80's. I simply had to have it there and then and paid him whatever he wanted for it :)

My next computer/games console was bought after playing PGA Tour Golf with a friend on his Sega Megadrive. Again, I simply had to have it there and then and without checking first, paid him more than they cost in the shops at the time lol.

In the box of stuff was this game Whip Rush. Even with all my Amiga games like T-Zero and others, I have never enjoyed playing a game as much as Whip Rush......

Having said that, I guess I'd be inclined to pick something that's different almost every time you play it. Utopia for Intellivision for example is way up there as a fav as is INTV Baseball. Pinball Construction Set on C64. Dune II on Amiga. I'm also really partial to Super Street Fighter II Turbo and C.E. arcade or SNES. Yeah, not so sure I could ever pick just one without qualification and breaking it down by genre and platform ;)

NOT! lmao When I had an N64, I absolutely loved Rush 2049's Stunt Track. Now I enjoy the arcade version on the PS2 Midway Collection disc.

There are some Apple II games as candidates, some C64 games, Amiga games, PC games.. too many... Give me time and I could probably put together a top 25 but nailing down an order would be difficult...

Just to throw something out there, I'll say Postal II (PC) or Nuclear War (Amiga).

Bomb Jack on the C64 in a joystick was the first time my (now 6 year old) actually read. a few months before his 3rd birthday, I was playing trying out Bomb Jack for the first time. He walks in, and asks me "What's Bomb Jack?" He had memorized words before that, but "Bomb Jack" was the first think I ever saw him read words he had previously never seen before.

So, while I doubt I would put Bomb Jack on the list for game play, it definitely get's high marks for being my son's first truly read words.

Tough to say if it's a definitive "favorite", but one I'll never forget is Crossroads.

Second would be "BallBlazer" on just about any platform: Atari 5200, Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit. Honorable mentions would be "CyberSled," "Xevious," both arcades, though several home conversions of "Xevious" are quite nice (including the J2ME recently released.)

- Goldeneye (N64). Fantastic longevity thanks to the rewards system and fantastic multiplayer.
- Zelda, Ocarina of Time (N64). Nearly failed me my school leaving exams
- Wipeout 2097 (PSX). Oooooh, the buzz from pulling off a perfect lap and eliminating your main contender.
- F-Zero GX (Gamecube). Different beast altogether to Wipeout, and perhaps more addictive. Looks incredible too!
- Worms: Director's Cut (Amiga). Holds my record for longest gaming session - 13 hours over night with some friends and some beers.

Coin-up machines: Altered Beast

Atari 2600: Millipede

GameBoy: Mortal Kombat

NES: Mario Bros

SNES: Street Fighter

Amiga: Sensible WoS (along with many others!)

PC: Age of Empires, Quake II and III

Dreamcast: Headhunter

Doom2 (Listening for network start info (IPX/SPX)
Quake2 (Various Mods)
Counter Strike (original up to version 1.5)
Then BF1942 and especially the Desert Combat mod for it.

On Amiga my fav game was Frontier.... hours of youth in orbit around Saturn.

I dont recall a game I got so completely absorbed in. Huge game too, so it takes quite some time to complete.

Other mentions must got to both Rtype and the Street Fighter series, both of which I spent a fortune on at my local arcades rather than going to school :-) Unlike a lot of people I enjoyed Street Fighter 1 when it was 1st released. I became fairly decent at it, and would usually end up with an audience, but the real addiction started with SF2 and while I no longer play it daily the series still gets a bit of attention from me.

etc.

These days Im the same. While I favored arcade style games when I was younger these days a story I can get into will probably make me delve into a game than any other trait. This worked out pretty well for me actually as I never played many ScummVM games when they were new, so there was plenty of "new" commercial games for me to play on Amiga OS (and later AROS) for me to play as my tastes changed.

This isnt to say point n click adventures are what I exclusively define as a game with a storyline, but they do fit into that category. Although not really known for it's story the original Max Payne started me on this taste for a story, and Deus Ex more or less cemented (as much as my age) a change in direction for my taste in games. Speaking of which I'll have to play it again with the hi res texture packs, gives me an opportunity to play the story out differently this time (there's multiple endings depending on your decisions in the game).

hehe,... stunts 4d racing, damn that brings back some memories :) I had a pc owning friend who used to rub that game on his high end 286/low end 386 (cant recall which, bu it was an ok-ish but not great pc for the time). It was only a few years ago that I discovered there's also an amiga version. I'll have to check it out one day to see how it runs on something faster than an a500 :)

It's definitely the best ARPG, and it's a much better game than the SNES Zelda.

I think i would go for the Ultima underworld. My friend had this game on his PC, and we did spend a lot of time playing this great game.

UFO Enemy Unknown (I've never seen it run well on the Amiga, plus the graphics were better on the PC).

N64: Goldeneye. Wipeout 64.

If I had to pick one out of all of these, KotoR 1 or 2 would be high on the list of possibilities.

I first played this on the Atari 800 and then on the Amiga. Recently I discovered that there's a decent version of Archon for the iPhone now! Woohoo!

My favourite of all time on that was Fighter Pilot in which you were the pilot of an F15 Eagle. You had to protect 4 airfields called BASE, ZULU, DELTA and TANGO from enemy bombers. Obviously if all the bases were bombed you would have nowhere to land and would run out of fuel and crash. So you had to keep scrambling up to dogfight with the enemy bombers and keep landing to refuel using a proper ILS (Instrument Landing System) OMG! It's on YouTube :)

My favourite Amiga games would be games like T-Zer0, ProjectX and Super Stardust. But I also like the simple ones like Battle Chess and TanX too :)

Wipeout 2097 was ported to warpos later,i dont consider this an 100% amiga game,it is something different.Also the simcity 2000 was faster on amiga running shapeshifter 68k mac emulator than on the native amiga,(and mac too!) that's the crazy stuff,an amiga port of the same game was slow and the emulated one was good...

It was still good, don't get me wrong, but lacked some stuff which I really couldn't understand omitting, like a league type game and being able to unlock extra tracks or courses. You played your single race and that was it. Shame really, those sort of features aren't down to CPU power or anything...
