I own 2 of these cards, same spec (appart from the overclocked 060 but fully populated), I'm not sure I could answer with enough objectivity so will just say; all depends on how often they appear and how much money the people who want to bid have. You get two bidders who have enough cash going against each other and it just ends up being good for the seller. It really has nothing to do with ethics or how sensible one should be.
Why don't people ever understand this? Has it never happened to you?
I've never sold anything Amiga, I guess you think I'm crazy too... LOL

FYI I certainly was not making any statement about ethics. I simply think it's astonishing that people want these things so badly that the free market price is $1000. Yes, I've seen much crazier things on eBay with old technology, but not Amiga-related.
-
I'm one of those numpties who pay silly prices for stuff on ebay, I don't mind the prices I pay as I will only pay what some folk consider to be crazy money if I really want the item and feel it's worth the money to me... :)
Just wish that sometimes I could get a bargain but that never seems to happen... :(
-
Well fair enough but from where I'm sitting why worry about the free market; people seem to brag about good deals and then convey there horror when someone pays too much... shouldn't it be a non starter?
But to stay on topic, yes, some people will pay quite a bit to obtain that Amiga part that completes there current project. Me included but then, I'm more in to collecting SAMs now and soon X1000s... :hammer:
When I eventually get around to selling my bits and pieces I'm not too worried about what I get, nothing could compensate for losing anything Amiga ;-)
@Franko
You just never know, your next trade could be a great one!

in barn and happenes to start up first crank
all those things fall of backs lorrys hehe

@ Slayer
Nah, I never have any luck with getting a bargain and then all the stuff I do buy I very rarely if ever sell, I usually end up getting a sob story from someone and giving it away...
@ actung_bab
Knowing my luck I'd get crushed by the stuff falling off the back of the lorry...
-
Well the first thing to do in order to get a bargain is to look in other places than ebay. Personally I tend to buy Amiga related stuff by using an norwegian online auction site which have it's own Commodore/Amiga section.

I know it's just laziness with me, I missed a great bargain about three weeks ago, there's a site in the UK called Gumtree that does local auctions and there was a guy in Edinburgh selling 3 A1200's with 030 boards and he only wanted £45 for the lot, unfortunately I don't drive and my sister who could have taken me their was away that day. I contacted the guy the next day but he had sold them to someone else the night before, just my luck eh... :(

Quite surprised to hear this from a scotsman since I'm under the impression that all of you are some really cheapskates

A slow 603 with slow scsi.. the cyberstorm 604e is quite a bit faster and the UWscsi rocks. If you ever had one,you wouldn't want to live with out it .With the announcement of os4.1 for them, you can probabaly expect the price to climb.
Btw,why whine about the prices, after you use the thing 5 years it will be worth the same or more assuming you take care of it.PC clone hardware depreciates the minute you look at it.consider it a good investment.
lets not forget the price on that apple 1 :)
-
Can these things get any more expensive?
I'm shocked at the price considering the seller offers no guarantees it works, there are just too many things about this auction for me that suggests it wont.
-
Can these things get any more expensive?
Yes
-
Bah. It's all those people hoarding Amigas (hence, the recent thread "how many do you own?") that's driving the price up. LOL ;-)
-
hopefully. !
It amazes me that people expect things to always fall in value. They missed the boat and they whinge about it. If you want cheap bargains...almost forget ebay....get off your ar*e and look. Week after Week after week I trawl junk sales, car boots, markets etc. Win some loose some.
-
For 1000 dollars, I'd bloody well want to see evidence of the card working
-

i wouldn't be so sure about it. yes there will probably be less of them, but the number of potential buyers will decline too. would your kids pay so much for Amiga hardware?
and as time goes by, chances are the board will break. due to wear and tear, caps and stuff.
that apple 1 is much simpler and can last longer, i think.
after all, there is not really anything that cheap pc cannot do and that card can. surely in few years there will be amiga_ppc emulator built in uae.
this reminds me of "Tulip mania".
still, if I had money to burn, I'd go for it.
-
Bah. It's all those people hoarding Amigas (hence, the recent thread "how many do you own?") that's driving the price up. LOL ;-)
l have to agree dam silly you can only use one machine maybe owning one of each model but when like have 3 ppc boards of same time dam daft if you ask me
there come time be wortless so more fool them l say

yep know what you mean buddy me too l got irish pom welsh bloody apprently my acentors got busy travelling . 2 irish grandfarthers nana from manchester.
-

Agree. No guarantees and when someone says it was working the last time it was tried usually means she aint working now. gambling. Come in spinner...
-
Another crazy price on ebay... (it's not even a PPC)
Apollo1260 50Mhz 64MB RAM - Buy It Now £425 !!! (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Apollo-1260-68060-50-Amiga-1200-Accelerator-64MB-RAM-/320616980394?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item4aa642dfaa#ht_5148wt_1112)
I've noticed this particular seller always only ever sells as a Buy It Now and usually never sells the item until they re-list it at a lower price...
-
..and it's even got tumors! Though I was under the impression getting an Apollo to use more than 32MB of RAM was an accomplishment.
-
It's all about collecting, nothing more. People will obsess and collect the weirdest things, funeral stuff, old signs, glass bottles, why not electronics? The Amiga had maybe 5 million sold total, most of that has long ago hit the dumpster so it's rare enough to be collectable.
I suspect it will only increase in value if/when C=USA cheap cr@p hits the market, because then the name will be better known..
-
I know it's just laziness with me, I missed a great bargain about three weeks ago, there's a site in the UK called Gumtree that does local auctions and there was a guy in Edinburgh selling 3 A1200's with 030 boards and he only wanted £45 for the lot, unfortunately I don't drive and my sister who could have taken me their was away that day. I contacted the guy the next day but he had sold them to someone else the night before, just my luck eh... :(
My biggest bargain was when I bought a QuaddddroPort 4 way clockport expander together with a IOBlix 1200S and a IOBlix 1200P clockport card for a very small amount of money. A while ago I saw an Amiga 3000 with a 030 card & Mediator at a real affordable price, and I was sooooo tempted at bidding on it, and before that I saw a Commodore CDTV which I considered bidding on as well.
But what typically happens with me is that I find something interesting on an auction site, but in order to avoid driving the price up, I don't place a bid early on in the auction. What happens next is that I forget about the whole thing before it's too late :(
Must be all the different blood from various ancestors bit of German, lithuanian & Irish in the mix... :)
So you are not a 100% pure scotsman then, you know one of those who will sit in the smallest room in the house with a teaspoon and cry about what he is about to lose
-
l have to agree dam silly you can only use one machine maybe owning one of each model but when like have 3 ppc boards of same time dam daft if you ask me

Well I can somehow understand why some people have several versions of the exact same item, because if one item gets damaged, it's easy to replace it with another one that works. And if it's damaged beyond repair, it can still be used for spare parts.
-
Btw,why whine about the prices, after you use the thing 5 years it will be worth the same or more assuming you take care of it.PC clone hardware depreciates the minute you look at it.consider it a good investment.
Not whining, just surprised, as already stated. (I'm not really interested in obtaining one. I was browsing Amiga on eBay at the time and noticed the very high bids for this not-guaranteed-working unit.) I really don't think it's a good investment at $1K. It will be worth less in 5 years.
-

Woah!
Yes, pretty cheap...
-
after all, there is not really anything that cheap pc cannot do and that card can. surely in few years there will be amiga_ppc emulator built in uae.

Anyone who thinks that the prices of these will keep going up is going to be sorely disappointed at some point. They aren't an investment, you're buying into a dream. The cost is purely based on the number of people who are willing to pay for the dream.
However, I too have a large collection of what basically is useless junk that hopefully I'll get round to selling before the price collapses.
I've seen it happen in arcade collecting, jamma boards that you could buy cheap and then sell more expensive as more people got into it. Now most people are selling, it's easier to just dump it.
-
Its one of those things that sort of sucks for those who want to actually use and mess around with amiga's. People drive up the price, then get bored and toss the gear.
-

I agree with that point, I never sell any of my Amiga gear no matter how tempting the price you could get for some of the stuff, and would never dream of binning any of it even if it was broken... :)
-
Sort of agreed, 2 Amigas, 5 RTG cards...
-
Maybe that explains why (with no Amigas) I'm still holding on to a Voodoo3 2000 video card.
-
Quick grab a bargain... :)
A1200 040/PPC 25Mhz/160Mhz NO RAM only £575 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PPC-68040-160-MHz-TURBO-card-Commodore-AMIGA-1200-/120650117565?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c174eb1bd#ht_2265wt_1141)

That's taking the pish. My 240MHz 603/ 25MHz 68040 version with SCSI cost significantly less than this when it was brand spanking new.

Yeah... I couldn't remember the price off hand of one of these when new, but that guy is either very thick or if someone actually buys it, very smart... :)

You got that right tone007...
Think I'll make him an offer for a bag full of squirrels (freshly caught this morning) & a bottle of Irn Bru... :)

My Amiga CD64 prototype has gotta be worth about 50 grand. Hedley Davis speaks about it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cml_YsTznRU I wonder what the world would be like if the CBM/Acorn/ATI merger had gone through?

Me too, should've known better...
Now here's the bad new's I've had a guy contact me who produces indie records asking me to put him in touch with Doomy, and I kinda let him know where to find him. Now it looks like were going to get a full length professionally produced version of Only Amiga featuring the one and only The DoomMaster... erm... sorry folks... :(

Blizzard PPC card is not as slow as most of you think.
with the right modifcation the card is right up there just out performing a Cyberstorm 200Mhz and not far behind a 233Mhz Cyberstorm PPC.
as it stands at the moment my Blizzard/Bvision combo should out perform Cyberstorm/Cybervision combo in *2 & 3D only* (GFX) regardless if the Cyberstorm CPU is 400Mhz.
-
Real odd one this...
A1200 Memory Upgrade - Starting Bid £500 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-memory-upgrade-/120656811032?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c17b4d418#ht_500wt_1156)
That's all it says...
(from the pics it obviously an accelerator too, but the numptie doesn't say a word about it...)

and by 'right modification' you mean overclocking or replacing CPU?
its prolly better to spend ($)$$$ on that cyberstorm than waste time and get a dead bppc in end.
or just forget about it and be happy with what you have.

He probably doesn't even know. He must've found it somewhere, found out it was for an old computer called an 'Amiga 1200' and someone told him they were rare so he decided to chance his luck with a £500 starting bid. It's very common these days since it's almost 20 years since C= went under. It's rare enough to find someone who knows what an Amiga is.
-
@ lando
Most likely that what he's done, but you'd think he'd have at least done a bit of research first before placing the ad. I mean it looks like an 030 or 040 but the numptie doesn't even tell you how much RAM the thing actually has, even a quick look around ebay he'd have been able to get a rough Idea of what he's trying to sell and an idea of the price...
The guy must be a total waahoo IMO...

i have a Test Blizzard Card,i then transfer this to my other card when testing is complete.
my card has gone fault, not a problem repair it "more testing" "gone faulty" "repair it" "gone faulty" "repair it" and so on
NOTE: test card has a BGA socket with a choice of alloy heatsink or a Patent Pending Heatsink which allows CPU to run Fanless. it also allows me swap the PPC CPU in under 1 min.

here is the old test result, when my Blizzard PPC challenged the Mighty Cyberstorm 233Mhz,but my Blizzard has gain another half a second not shown here.

This guys a total bamstick, here's what else he's trying to sell...
Amiga 1200 memory upgrade excelarator - (again no info) Starting Bid £499 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-memory-upgrade-excelarator-/120656810622?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c17b4d27e#ht_500wt_1156)
Amiga 1200 memory upgrade (without any ram chips according to the picture) Starting Bid £50 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-memory-upgrade-/120656804367?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c17b4ba0f#ht_500wt_1156)
Now he claims this ones in "Top working order" so he must have an amiga to test these things on, that begs the questions, why no info or ram size, or the fact that the first one is even an accelerator and how did he test the one at £50 when the RAM chip sockets are empty... weirdo...

Well, that's clearly an Apollo 1240 Turbo (or clone), looks like the 40MHz version. Absolutely no way it's worth 500 quid though

Bvision PPC card with 8MB @ 200 euro is a bit much, but not impossible.
These do between 80-120 pounds on Amibay, or 95-145 euro depending on ram and add ons, boxed, disks, manual and so on.
-
Didn't they cost more then that NEW?

Turbo card Commodore Amiga 1200 66Mhz/75Mhz £699.99 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TURBO-card-Commodore-Amiga-1200-68060-66MHz-75MHz-UG-/120657939269?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c17c60b45#ht_4171wt_1141)
(PS: Don't forget the P&P at £9.90) :)
-
I would never be stupid enough to pay that kind of money for old Amiga hardware, and I do love the Amiga computers. For almost $1000.00 I can buy a really nice modern PC and a Mac from craigslist, and have enough money left over to take a beautiful woman out on a date. :)
So, let's see, spend almost $1000.00 on:
An old processor board for an old Amiga computer.
OR
A really nice modern PC and a Mac, plus date a beautiful woman.
That is a NO-BRAINER , lol.

Some more crazy eBay prices...
SNES game Chroo Trigger, I own one of these myself paid about 80 quid for it 3 years ago normally they sell for up to around £150 but this one broke all records for this game
SNES Game Chrono Trigger £350.05+ £3.50 P&P (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220725563000&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT#ht_4244wt_1141)
A Blizzard060/50Mhz +32MB RAM, bought one of these several years ago with 128MB RAM for £200
Blizzard060/50Mhz + 32Mb RAM £369.94 + £10 P&P (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220727075291&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1156)

A Blizzard060/50Mhz +32MB RAM, bought one of these several years ago with 128MB RAM for £200
Blizzard060/50Mhz + 32Mb RAM £369.94 + £10 P&P (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220727075291&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1156)
My max bid on that was £251.99. Any more was just silly money.

Ahh... so you were one of the buggers pushing the price up... ;)
I dropped out at £200 myself as I was only looking to buy it in case someone on the forum was looking for one at the same price I would have paid for it... :)
True it went for silly money but at least the guy who bought it wasn't one of the usual creeps who buy these things and them put them on their ebay shops at 2 or 3 time the price... :)

Nice one, the best Amiga video card (IMHO) and at half what I've seen them go for at times. Looks to be in perfect condition, too. December/January can be a ripe time for buyers since everyone's broke around the holidays.
I got a good deal on one recently myself. The seller clearly stated the scandoubler part wasn't working, so there weren't many bids. I cleaned the chip contacts, replaced one burned SMD resistor, and it's been working great. Sometimes you luck out.

Quick grab a bargain... :)

Between 1000-1200 dollars / 650-750 pound / 600-800 euro easily, I think if someone really wants it, they pay it easily.
