Seems that there was a time after the demise of Commodore that there was (or could have been) an officially accepted by all/most 'Amiga.' Now, even the use of the trade name is fragmented, and it appears to me that there are many Amiga enthusiasts that don't accept Hyperion/OS4 as the "real" Amiga -- and almost nobody accepts anything Amiga Inc. is involved with either. So 'Amiga' has *irreversibly* become this cloud of various Amiga-like and Amiga-related projects, OS, etc.? Not possible to put Humpty Dumpty together again.

Only if you hold the Amiga name/brand to be an essential component of a true Amiga. Personally, I feel far more strongly about the elegant hardware architecture and understandable-yet-flexible OS than I ever did about having Spanish lesbians on the nameplate (not that I'm opposed to that, mind.)

I think you've got it.

That sounds about right... Amiga is what we make it now :)

Well, what do you expect? One is a crooked company that wanted to trade on the Amiga brand but with no tangible ideas and another company who's product has two essentially equal competitors...
The computer world moved on from what the amiga was trying to do over 15 years ago... The devices we use now are so far in advance of anything amiga was it is like comparing a model t ford with a Toyota prius... If anything we are lucky to have what we have got, so why not fire up your Amiga, UAE or AOS4, or MOS or AROS... Crack open a beer and have a bit of fun :)

That happened a long time ago already. Amiga Inc put the corner stone in this development by the "the Amiga is dead, long live the Amiga" announcement (announcing their Amiga Anywhere, or whatever they called it), and it has been downhill ever since. Most people I know made up their mind about "Amiga" way back in time, when ANN.lu was still active. These people (we, us) couldn't care less about the Amiga trademark; what's interesting to us is what technological merits a system has, features, specs, performance, backwards compatibility. This was key points for developing MorphOS, and this is the reason to why MorphOS is so popular among Amigans who are more interested in the experience than the trade mark. I am very pleased to see the "but it's not teh reeel!!1!!!1" argument finally being torpedoed down the depts, and I applaud Commodore for this! Your own post is a sign of awakening. Maybe people will start to *think* now!
And at the same time, I would actually consider one of Commodore's HTPC machines with the aumro/karmadigital cases as pictured on their web page. I'm looking for one for my living room anyway, and having a Commodore Amiga logo on it would make it a true gimmick! :)

Welcome into the light brother. Just get Ubuntu with a nice Amiga theme, you'll be fine.

All this talk of Indian food is making me hungry. My dinner tonight was some pistachios straight from Iran, until I noticed the maggot-like creatures sharing them with me. Took the rest of my bottle of Absinthe to defeat the urge to vomit.

Pistachio nuts do that to me regardless. I have an allergy or intolerance to them that makes me suffer intense cramps, shakes and sweats for hours if I have even a small amount.

Psst... Karlos...
Wanna buy some Pistachio nut's... :roflmao:
(my squirrels don't like them either, it make them hyperactive and they go nuts... :))

Maybe if gateway had done something with the Amiga there might be a closer nit community these days? Meh.
My bet is on a AROS/UAE based platform. Leave all the expensive niche hardware and copyright wrangling behind.
