Title: ADF to Floppy
Post by: tonyk on December 07, 2003, 03:17:01 AM
After many many years I finally got my amiga500 back from my Dads house.  However all the disks, manuals, etc. are long lost.

Would someone provide very basic instructions for converting adf files (which I have downloaded to my PC running Windows98) to floppies that I can then use on the amiga.

Thanks for the help.

You cannot write Amiga floppies with PC without special hardware. The best solution would be to ask a friend with networked Amiga to write the floppies for you. If that is not possible, then the cheapest way is to use a nullmodem cable between your PC and Amiga. See here (http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/homepage/c725/c72578/amiga/) for instructions and software for Amiga and PC. The only problem is that you need at least a working Workbench disk... Using a nullmodem cable is also quite slow. It takes about 8 minutes to transfer one image.

There is some software I used on my A500+ when it wa smy only computer all those years ago. It should work on anything though. It can read PC FDs. It is on an original disk though for something called EDLP something or other. Maybe you could find it somewhere. It was very slow but worked most of the time. I used to get stuff from the PCs at college onto my A500+, often.

Mantis: Try making an image in MakeCD using WINUAE on your PC and then try to unpack them on your amiga...
I had the same problem as you once, alot of the lha/lzx were corrupt.

I guess you could use a packed archieve adf (size < 720KB) and put that on a DD disk formatted using PC0 on amiga. And then use ADFBlitzer(from aminet)
Cheers,
Povl

Probably because they're not packed. ADF is a direct image dump of the disk (880*11*2 512 byte blocks). ADZ files are gzipped ADF files.

You need a tool like TransADF (http://www.aminet.net/disk/misc/TransADF.lha) to write the ADF/ADZs back to amiga disks.

First, download a copy of Winuae and install on your PC, in the 'Amiga Programs' folder, there is a file called 'transdisk', copy this to your Amiga (use CrossDos, MSH or serial transfer etc)
Then copy the ADFs to your Amiga somehow and write them to disk using the command:
transdisk -w disk.adf
(where disk.adf is the name of the adf file)

For more info see: http://www.pcguru.plus.com/uae_faq.html

Or use a catweasel controller, use a serial cable with Cloanto's Amiga Explorer. Otherwise it's really messing around I think.
