I can't speak for the rest, but why should we care all that much? The license of AROS explicitly allows commercial use, and others (ClusterUK, phoenixconsole) already sell hardware intended for AROS.
If it brings new users, cool. If it doesn't, everything is as before. If they decide to spend money on AROS development, great. If not, well, everything is as before.
There's really no ways for it to negatively affect AROS, and it doesn't seem all that likely that it'll make a major positive impact.

I don't know what you're getting at here, as none of what they're doing is dependent on AROS. I very much doubt that we'll see many people buying their boxes to buy AROS compared to Windows or Linux.

well I hate to see AI make 1 cent off the back of AROS BUT saying that if CUSA want to be taken seriously by the community they should invest in AROS development for these PC branded Amigas....at least they'll be supporting an Amiga inspired OS rather than just another WinBox

What? Of course it is. What would the new "Commodore Amiga" machine be without AROS?
(just another Win or Linux machine with a different name)

But they blatently want to sell WinBoxes anyhow. Cant see AI/CUSA doing anything positive for "the community"
P.S. I suppose they could print off some vouchers and then not honour them. No, they wouldn't do that would they?

It's Barry Barry strange.

Anyone can produce a commercial AROS if they want. Whether that's commercially viable in the marketplace is another question altogether. It won't stop a "free" AROS from existing side by side. I'd like to see the copyright and trademarks assets of "amiga inc" purchased away from those who were directly involved with the Gateway Amiga inc. and folded into a non-profit organization that supports all Amiga like platforms and their users.

AROS is open source so they can use the AROS code it they want. If they improve the AROS code they have to make the changes public.
If they want full support for their hardware from us they will need to earn our respect by showing commitment for working with the AROS community.

but you'll need to rewrite the CD/DVD file system. This is currently licensed for non-commercial use only.

My thoughts pretty much mirror what others have said in that Im somewhat nonchalant. If they want to be involved and contribute something, great, but if not nothing has changed.

Is that party going to have the means to bring legal action against that? Not that I know the answer to that but it hasn't prevent other companies in having a go with copyrights before.
I think the venture is/was dead before it began. Regardless if they buy/own Amiga - I would shudder to think anyone really thinks they will amount to a hill of beans. The owner of CommodoreUSA doesn't seem to know or understand the IP or the marketplace for an Amiga product and appears to be trying to get a crash-course on the message boards and in turn, poo-poo'ing on most of it possible only end customers.
Strange is an understatement.
