Is it possible to launch AMIGA OS4.1
with vmware Workstation ? ...
I tried but didnt manage
-
No
-
Is there a version of VMWare that emulates PPC hardware now? Maybe you were thinking of AROS instead?
-
VMWare is, AFAIK, a virtualization system only. If you want to be able to run PPC guest operating systems on x86/64, you need a proper emulator such as quemu or pearpc. Even then, I suspect you probably won't get very far.
-
No, because you must think that VMWARE only work and emulates X86 machines not PPC or 68k CPUs and machines.
-
VMware, Linux and eUAE works nicely together though :)
-
You forgot to recompile OS4 for intel rather than PPC. Do that and it should work....
-
Im most suddenly not thinking of AROS... Tried that and is a nice project, but quite useless.
Just wanted to try os4.1 out. Didnt get it to work though.
Have Ubuntu and plenty other os's on vmware - love to play with other os's ...
Think Windows 7 soon will leave my laptop for Ubuntu 10.10

As I said, you'd need to use qemu or pearpc to stand even a remote chance. VMWare isn't going to help you run a PPC guest OS on x86/64 host hardware at all.

No AMIGA AOS4.x on virtual machine...only ICAROS (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=54657) on "ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX"
-
quite absurd question but they do arise when people fail to understand what how a virtualization environment works.
I don`t think you stand much of a chance!!

Where did you get OS4.1 from?
-
I'm guessing he got it from TPB....

Hooray. True Amiga-style... :-(

Kolla poses a perfectly valid question. There aren't any places you can buy it that give you the slightest impression it will work on x86 machines ;)

Isn't pearpc dead, anyways? I remember hearing something about the maintainer passing away a few years ago..... Shit was pretty fast when I remember it. Sad it never saw the light of day.

Hmm, I didn't know that; it's a real shame. If you can find a binary that works, I'm sure it has scaled reasonably well with faster x86 hardware that's come on since.

Apple's move to intel rendered it irrelevant. That and the primary developer was killed in a bicycle accident...
-
PearPC did work well though, I had a copy on my old Gateway laptop and it ran PPC OSX very nicely. I might still have it on DVD somewhere...

Yeah! That's what it was. I was fairly sad when I read that. :(
